I might as well post this here while I'm waiting for activation on the official forums...

I ran into one crash to desktop in version 0.99c while docked and looting a destroyed ship, one or two gates from Eridani. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, since I've looted plenty of ships since with no problems, but I have two theories, as there were some other ships around at the time:

1) If AI ships loot destroyed ships, maybe an AI ship docked and tried to loot the ship I was looting, and caused the crash by looking for some object that was no longer there.
2) Or perhaps my ship was destroyed while I was docked, although I don't think there were any enemies in range that could have done this quickly enough...

Aside from this crash, the game's been pretty stable, and a fair bit of fun. Certainly some of the highest production value work I've seen in a freeware game.
