Plays are done in scenes. Short "skits" taking place in one room or at one point where everything is pretty much the same. In our longer roleplay threads, they go from day to day but a scene would be only a short time and take place in a stationary area generally. Let me describe it in a "for instance".

Lets say you wanted to do a scene with a few other characters. You would post your interest in doing this short roleplay by creating a new thread here in Scene Roleplay Put your name and subject as the topic. You would ask if others were interested to join and play a character on the character list. In your post you need to sketch out scene along with a list of characters. (Each person entering the roleplay will have to create a biography for their character if it has not already been done.)

Glorfindel would like to do a scene with Olórin, Manwë, and Varda that takes place in Valinor.

The scene would be set in the marble hall of Ilmarin on the pinnacle of Taniquetil where Manwë and Varda dwell. The date would be about 1200 of the 2nd age when Manwë sends Olórin to get Glorfindel from Tirion (Glorfindel has just been released from the Halls of Mandos recently) to discuss sending him back to Middle Earth because evil is rising and the son of Earendil needs help.

The characters needed would be:
Glorfindel
Olórin
Manwë
Varda

Once the character roles have been filled, the starter of the roleplay will put in the first post dressing the scene as if its a stage, by describing in detail all the things you would see and expect before the speaking parts begin.

This is when the roleplay actually starts in a "round robin" style of posting until the characters walk off-stage.
