Invitational Roleplays here at Tol EressŽa are much stricter than normal roleplay here. They are challenging and require better writing and more of it. If you wish to enter an Invitational roleplay the first thing you need to do is contact the Moderator of that roleplay. Tell them you wish to enter the roleplay. The next step is to decide which character you will portray. There will be a list of characters in the beginning of the invitational roleplays. Some say taken, and others are still free to be taken. To show your quality you need to create a biography of your character. Sometimes this is very hard to do and you have to use lots of imagination, plus, not break any Tolkien canon for the character. Other players are willing to help you create your character and doing so will be your first big challenge! Your complete character biography does many things; it helps other writers visualize you so they can write more realistically, it helps you solidify everything in your mind about what motivates your character so he or she becomes believeable and it makes your writing easier because you know your characters limitations.
Once you have your biography ready, make sure you have these important things within it. Character Name: Race: Gender: Age: Family: Description: Personality: History: Sample Roleplay:
In an invitational roleplay you will put your biography in the biography thread for that particular roleplay, not in the regular biography thread. Once you put it in the thread, prepare yourself for some comments from the other characters. These comments will give you some suggestions to make the biography better, maybe ask questions and be as positive as possible. Lengthy suggestions or any negative comments (if any) will come to you in a PM from the Moderator of the roleplay. Once your biography has been approved by the Moderator, he or she will help you get started within the roleplay.
Now you may think the above is an unsurmountable obstacle to joining an invitational. It is a challenge actually, for any roleplayer but - challenges help us improve our writing! Friendly help is available, please ask for help and suggestions.
Invitationals are not for everyone! Even excellent writers who are unable to spend the time it takes to write on a regular basis should think hard about requesting a spot in an invitational.
If you are reading this, please give it a try. Even if you are not invited to roleplay, it can only help your creation of any character biography in future roleplays!
Glorfindel was tall and straight; his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy; his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music; on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength.
