How Well Did Luke Know Ben?, Friends?

Luke seemed to know quite a bit about Old ben, like who he was, where he lived and what he looked like.

Were they good neighbors, friends, or did Luke just know about him because of rumours of an old hermit that lived on the edge of the Dune Sea?

This is one of the few things in the OT that annoyed me.

They seemed to be aquaintances, not friendly, as you put it. But whenever Ben asked Luke to come to Alderaan and the death of his aunt and uncle, he was all gung-ho. Then whenever Ben died, he seemed more upset about that than the death of the people who raised him.

I feel like the originals never really gave a straight answer.

I think Ben and Luke were friends, but he never spent much time with him because of the Lars's. After Ben died, Luke had come to think of Ben as more of a father figure than he had ever thought of his uncle. Ben was someone that understood him, and understood the force. A teacher like that is rare, and they had a special bond.

I know many people dont really count EU, but at the very least the EU gives possibilities of stuff that happened.

There was a story about how Luke had crashed his SkyHopper and Obiwan had come and found him and I guess took care of his injuries. I think Owen got mad after that and told Luke not to talk to him anymore.

I guess he really was afraid that Obiwan would take him off to be a Jedi.
