Name .:. Rikyanill
Age .:. 19
Birth Season .:. Winter
Gender .:. Male
Sexuality .:. Heterosexual
Personality Type .:. ISFJ

.: Appearance :.
Rikyanill is not necessarily a nice boy to look at. He is an excessively gaunt and bony creature, and awkward far past the age he should have grown out of it. He looks very nearly like he isn't well cared for, and like he's some poor farmer boy living out on a half-dead patch of dirt without enough food to fill out his bones. He could pass for one easily if he tried, but the way he dresses and the way he carries himself so carefully with the posture, if not the air, of the noblemen of the Holds. For this he is often passed over. Because he could be a poor boy but isn't, and could be a haughty lord, but is not that either. He's just a tall, bony, pale boy that dresses nice but refuses to look you in the eye.

If he didn't have the sad countenance of an abandoned puppy no one would care to notice him. Most people still don't, but a few of the kinder-hearted ones take a few moments to examine this sad young man. And there they find a very tall face made more so by its thinness and planes that would be smooth and commanding if he wasn't so gaunt. His father's face, his mother tells him, but his mother's full lips, dark hair, and sea blue eyes, along with the stern brows above them that on his face more often look confused or non-threatening. Rarely will his face be seen for long, though. He never keeps eye contact for long, and will always be the first to turn his face away.

It seems nearly impossible to believe that this unassuming man could be a Lord Holder. Certainly not this sad creature. Lady Cambria couldn't have chosen this sorry indivual to rule her Hold, let alone this shy man to share her bed. But the facts remain as stone. Rikyanill is the Lord of Sinthera by marriage to Cambria. And his is a face that shall become remembered by all of its people.

.: Personality :.
Quiet, Withdrawn, Shy, Delicate, Loving, Hesitant, Thoughtful, Intelligent, Scared, Worried, Sad, Easily Hurt, Hopeless, Hopeful, Dazed, Well-Mannered, Kind, Earnest, Entreating, Unassuming

According to the average person, Rikyanill is as fun and interesting as a tree stump. He is uncommunicative, he dodges questions and people, and he flat out refuses to come out of his shell. He comes across as someone very pathetic, and also very sorry for himself, and this isn't too far off the mark. It isn't that he's annoying, just that he's boring to be around. He doesn't talk, or at least he does not start conversations, and he does not help at all with keeping them going. He most often gives off the clear vibe of just wanting to be left alone, and only very few people will be spared this rather unwelcome chill. The most notable of which is his new wife, though around her he instead takes on a dazed, confused, and scared vibe that is probably not much better.

Beneath this he is equally pathetic if not more so. It's rare to find Rikyanill happy, and if he is happy, he doesn't stay that way for long. That's really just how he is. Along with this he tends to overreact to bad things. He is annoying in that he will always be blaming himself for things gone wrong, but endearing in his efforts to put things right again, even if he is degrading himself as he's doing it and doing a very poor job of it. He is a very pathetic man, yes, but he does try, and he wants to be a good Lord, a good husband, a decent human. An interesting or at least amiable human is stretching a bit, but he does wish he could be one of those, too. He of course is not getting very far in these hopes, because he is constantly thinking of himself as the sad and pathetic person he is when he believes so. A self-fulfilling prophecy that he's stuck in.

A problem with Rikyanill in his position as Lord is that he forgets how to think in difficult situations. He's smart, don't mistake. Or at least intelligent. He knows his stuff, he just looses his mind under stress. He knows process, but he isn't a very practical mind. And on top of that, he is incredibly ignorant in the way that the world works. The facts he's good with. The science and math and literary information is comforting to him. But he wouldn't know a herdbeast from a packbeast if presented the two, let alone know what the heck to do with either. Presented with a real crisis, he would crumple up and start saying that it was his fault, or just go silent and think endlessly 'What do I do?'. Neither is a very useful solution.

In the matter concerning Cambria, it is hard to discern anything. Clearly he is scared of her, or at least of being near her, but it can't be told yet if he has any affection for her. If he does, he hasn't shown it yet, and probably out of fear. Speaking from the inside of his head, it is still hard to say. At the very least, the question on the outside of if he resents Cambria for choosing him and thereby shoving him under public scrutiny is answered with a resounding 'no', but beyond that even he doesn't know. And he's scared to know. Scared to try to see if he isn't, or to see if she isn't. It is a question he avoids like the plague. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens to them. And see if the Hold survives under his hesitant care.

.: History :.
Rikyanill was born early. This is the start of his problems in life, though really it can be considered that his problems started two months prior to his birth, when his father, Kirill, died of hypothermia and other complications having to do with being exposed to a blizzard. Apparently this made his mother lose her mind. She got so upset that Rikyanill was born a month early. And so upset that she went crazy. In a way that created the poor pathetic boy that Rikyanill turned into. The poor pathetic boy that was both pitied and tormented by the other Hold boys to the point that he could hardly choose between them and his mother. It should have been a landslide.

Much of Raina’s issues concerned the belief she entertained that her son should be his father. Kirill had been steward prior to his sickness and death, so naturally Rikyanill should achieve the same rank if not more. He never really had the same aspirations, but she could not be swayed. His natural weakness only made her push harder, and made her more ambitious than ever. And it made her cloister him even closer. She made sure he learned from the same stuffy officials that taught the Lord Holder’s wild child – she never did approve of the crazy girl, though her eye was still caught by the promise of rank she held – and that he was kept as shut up as the Hold records. Needless to say, he didn’t end up with very good social skills or even the leadership qualities his mother was so desperate to instill in him.

The very few times he managed to escape from her and get out into the open air and sunshine were enough to make him go back inside again. The other boys his age were normal boys. Ruffians with something to prove that were really kittens at heart. One mistake led to another, and Rikyanill ended up bleeding, crying, dirty, and running back to the relative safety of his crazy mother, who if she reprimanded him, at least she didn't hurt him like they did. Realizing, however uselessly, that her son was lonely, and hence his running from her, she went out and got him a little songbird. A little fluttering black and white bird he called Farron. It was with her that he spent most of his time, and after getting her he never dared to venture out to play with the other boys.

So Rikyanill turned from a strange and quiet child into an awkward and withdrawn teenager. There is not much to say about this time in his life except what happens near the end of it. He is an exceedingly boring individual, after all, and quite honestly nothing outstanding happened to him. Plenty happened to him personally, but he doesn’t talk about these things and he pretends they never happened. He often found himself pining quietly in his dark little corner after the sweet girls that were kind enough to smile at him. Rikyanill was very easy to catch, yes. And easier to break. Not that anyone ever knew. He didn't have any friends outside of Farron, and he would never dare tell his mother. She saw fit to chew out every girl in the Hold in his hearing, and she was definitely not delicate about it.

Every girl, that is, excepting Cambria. She had very severe opinions on the disgraceful creature, but any chance to see her son high in the ranks would not be passed up. She wasn’t blind, after all. She saw that the Lord was getting older with no sons, and his daughter would need a husband soon. So what if the girl was feral and half-crazed, running around in breeches talking to peasants and touching herd animals. Raina may have been crazy, but she was smart, and she knew that her shy, quiet little boy could be adorable to any girl. And if that girl was in a fix and needed a husband fast, she would naturally choose the quiet, unassuming, sweet boy. At the very least, since Rikyanill had failed at everything else, he could at least be a comfort to a headstrong girl going through major upheaval and grief.

So it happened that Cambria started looking for a mate. And suddenly Rikyanill found himself being shoved out into the sunlight by the same mother that had pulled him into the shadows for his entire life. But of course he knew absolutely nothing about how to talk to other humans, let alone catch a girl like Cambria. He figures it must have been some odd twist of fate that made Cambria notice him, or some terrible coincidence that made all the other suitors jerks or idiots. He figures it to be some maternal instinct that drew Cambria to him. He certainly isn’t as interesting or charming as anyone else. It was just the peace and quiet he offered that got him chosen, and his mother watched in delight as Cambria took up a particular interest in her little angel.

In a daze, he found himself promised away to a charming, adventurous Lord Holder's daughter, and in the same daze was handfasted to her. No one could tell if he was happy for the turn of events or not, but it was very obvious that his mother was ecstatic. Any of the noise that came about from what was otherwise a quiet wedding came from her, while the vast majority of the silence came from him. His confused hit-in-the-face-by-a-shovel look persisted from the moment he noticed that Cambria had taken interest in him to the time his father-in-law died, at which point the confusion was replaced with mild horror and worry, helped along by the realization that he was actually married. He had a wife. AND he was Lord of a Hold. What the heck was he supposed to do now?!
