Kirmith was hungry and it was starting to affect her ride. Lyosa, busy repairing a tear in her riding leathers, looked through the door to where the black was lounging and watching her with a yellow tinged eye.

"You could go yourself," Lyosa said.

But you should come with so you can help me get clean afterwards. Kirmith said, lifting her head. She tried to look charming and as cute as she had been when she was a hatchling.

"Of course that's the reason." But Lyosa set her riding leathers aside and went to get Kirmith's bathing rag and sweetsand so after feeding she could help clean the blood from the black hide. "Not that you don't like to be alone with other dragons."

They could take a kill. Kirmith said bashfully.

Lyosa shook her head. Kirmith had always preferred to be away from other dragons. Not that it bother Lyosa any. She liked the private time that came with her dragon's shy demeanor. With sand and rag in hand, Lyosa used the dragon's forearm to climb aboard and then glide down to the feeding grounds. Kirmith was quick to drop her off and then gain altitude again, circling over the herdbeasts.

Lyosa leaned against the corral fence, watching her black dragon with a smile.

((OOC: Hope you don't mind that I keep throwing people into your open threads LOL))

Suren decided if he wanted to see more dragons, then he had better get out of the Candidate Barracks and take walks around the weyr. The Weyr itself was amazing. Suren remembered seeing it from the air adragonback. Never had Suren seen so many dragons in one place. He was from a small fishing hold, a place that dragons didn't fly over very much. The fact that he was Searched at all was miraculous.

Suren had been pitching in helping with chores and other things. But with his free time, he spent watching dragons and their riders. He had found the best places to watch were around the lake and the feeding corral. Interactions between dragons and riders were most common around those places: the corrals being where the dragons fed, and the lake being where they washed and played.

This time, Suren headed to the corrals, seeing a black dragon there. He stared as the black dragon took flight into the air, circling as if trying to decide on a creature to pounce on. He smiled at the rider. "Hope you don't mind if I watch?"

Lyosa looked over her shoulder at the young man and smiled. "If you can stomach it."

A person was a much better audience than other dragons. She didn't think Kirmith would mind. But she shouldn't invite someone without asking first.

Kirmith, there's a young man here who wants to watch. Do you mind?

I don't mind. Now let me hunt.

Lyosa chuckled at her dragon and then jerked her head. "Come on, you're welcome here."

Above them, the black dragon picked a herdbeast and dove. Her kill was quick, landing hard on the back of the animal and then going straight for the neck and killing the beast. She started eating immediately, going for the soft belly and organs.

"If you can stomach it." Suren chuckled and grinned back at the woman, gladdened by the invitation.

"I used to gut fish," Suren told her, still grinning. "I can handle it." He watched as her eyes became unfocused. She must be talking to her dragon, Suren thought longingly. Oh to have such a bond, it was something that he dreamed about. The black dragon was stunningly beautiful as the sunlight hit her hide as she flew above their heads.

"Come on, you're welcome here." Suren was gladdened by the invitation. He went up to the lady rider, and offered her a hand, that was callused and rough, from working as a fisherman, despite his young age. It showed that he wasn't afraid to get down and dirty despite his casual and laid back manner.

"I'm Suren by the way," he told her. "I was searched out to be a candidate here."

"Lyosa of Black Kirmith." The blackrider clapsed his hand in a strong, serious grip and gave it a shake before letting it go. "Welcome to the Weyr, Suren."

She liked candidates, she like children, though this one was probably old enough to object to the term child. Instead of becoming a serious rider, she relaxed against the fence and listened to the sounds of her lifemate eating.

"Have you been here long? Do you need any help with things here?"

"Good to meet you," Suren said, giving her an easy grin. He was pleased by her firm handshake. "And thanks for the welcome. This is a good place... quite different from where I grew up... more dragons for one." He chuckled. "In fact, I hadn't actually seen a dragon up close until the searchrider appeared one day and asked if I wanted to come back with him."

Suren glanced back at the black dragon, Kirmith, as she fed. Suren thought of those few times that he had seen dragons flying high above them. As a child he remembered being so much in awe of them just seeing them far away. He mentally grinned at himself for feeling something akin to that right now.

"Oh I've only been here a few days, trying to get a feel for this place," Suren told her. "Helping out and all here and there. Where I'm needed. I have some time to myself, and I wanted to have a look around. As to whether I need any help, mostly I'm just looking for riders to chat with. Dropped in a new place, it is good to make a few friends."

"I was the same as you, before coming here," Lyosa said conversationally. She liked candidates like him, eager and excited about their new lives and little fear about the changes it would bring. "Dragonriders didn't often come to my Hold either. It was an honor and a surprise to be Searched."

Kirmith was unaware she was being watched. The dragon was hungry, very hungry. Lyosa was only realizing now how long Kirmith had waited for the corrals to be empty so she could eat on her own. She was such a shy dragon.

She smiled at Suren. "I can answer any questions you might have. I've been here since I was fifteen turns. I know the place well."

"Good to know I'm not the only one from a small hold," Suren said chuckling. He looked over at the black dragon. "She seems very hungry." He cocked his head a little. "She's beautiful. How old is she if I can ask?" Suren was very curious about the dragons. He wondered if she would get even bigger... if this was a young dragon or one who was well experienced. "Did you impress on your first hatching?"

Suren suddenly laughed at himself. "Bet you are regretting offering to answer any questions I have. I'm just... this is all so new to me. I want to know what to expect so I don't screw up." Suren gave her a sheepish smile.

Lyosa smiled reassuringly. She really did like candidates. "No dragonrider regrets answering questions about their dragon. Kirmith is 18 turns. She's full grown."

Thinking back to Kirmith's hatching and her Impression, Lyosa looked at her dragon. Her smile became softer, loving. Since that day, she had never felt lonely or lost. She had her other half now and always would.

"I Impressed on my first standing, but I was one of the last to do so," she said fondly. "Kirmith was one of the last to hatch and came right up to me. There's a lot to expect, so it's good you're asking. The candidatemaster hasn't discussed this with you?"

"Just been here a few days, and there are no eggs on the sands," Suren explained. "I supposed the candidatemaster hasn't gotten to that yet." He grinned a little. "The candidates quarters are still filling. Maybe he doesn't want to have to explain it over and over." Suren shrugged.

"What is it like... having a dragon?" Suren gazed at the black dragon as she continued to eat hungrily. "And standing on the sands... what is it like? All of it." Suddenly Suren laughed at himself. "Listen to me just pestering you. My apologies. But it is nice to hear others accounts."
