Harry Potter

user posted image

Harry Potter was born on July 31st, 1980. He is the only son of Lily and James Potter, and was raised by his aunt and uncle along with their own son. Dudley. Harry was orphaned as an infant when the Dark Lord, Voldemort killed his parents as they were against him. Using the Avada Kedavra curse, one of the unforgivable curses of the wizarding world, the spell backfired when Voldemort turned his wan on the infant Harry. The curse killed the Dark Lord and left Harry with only a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.

Growing up with the Dursleys' was less than fun for Harry. He was often mistreated by his aunt and uncle to the point where he was relieved that he had been accepted to attend Hogwarts.

Harry has a natural talent for Quidditch, the most popular and most dangerous sport in the wizarding world. He is the Seeker on his team. In his sixth year, he becomes the Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. However, not even Harry can win every game. Sometimes evil forces of extreme power can make him lose. Harry is also not insusceptible to his own fallacies when it comes to Quidditch. He has nearly lost games by not paying attention and his activities in school have caused him to be banned from participated in matches before.
# Though only an average student in many subjects, Harry has an aptitude for Defence Against the Dark Arts. He is the best in his year in the class, scoring an O (Outstanding) on his O.W.L. exam. He beat his good friend Hermione in his DADA O.W.L (She got an E) and during the only time they had a proper teacher and both sat for the exam, which was Remus Lupin's class in the third year. Harry can produce a patronus (a stag, representing his father, Prongs) and perform any number of other useful defensive spells.

Harry never looks for trouble, but trouble invariably finds Harry. It is soon common knowledge that Harry and his best friend Ron's younger sister, Ginny are dating and in all essence, in love.

Hermione Granger

user posted image

Hermione Jean Granger is a student in the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, the female representative in the trio of friends that consists of Harry, Ron, and herself. It takes some time for the two boys to form a friendship with Hermione, but after fighting a mountain troll together, the three students become inseperable. Their friendship is not without its rocky points: due to her book smarts, Hermione can be - to quote Professor Snape - an insufferable know-it-all.

Hermione has bushy brown hair and large front teeth that were magically resized by Madam Pomfrey in Goblet of Fire. She knows many of the school books by heart and often quotes from them, her favorite being Hogwarts, A History. While facing a boggart in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban it is revealed that her greatest fear is academic failure: Hermione panics at the thought of her grades falling five percent below maximum. Her mother and father are Muggles, both of whom are dentists. Hermione's parents are open-minded and fully support their witch daughter. Yet her non-magical linneage leads many Slytherin students, often led by Draco Malfoy, to call her a filthy little Mudblood.

Hermione is a very intelligent witch for her age: her book smarts resemble that of a Ravenclaw more than a Gryffindor. Yet the bravery she displays during her many adventures with Harry and Ron cements her as a true Gryffindor. According to Hermione the Sorting Hat seriously considered putting her in Ravenclaw, but eventualy decided on Gryffindor. She believes that there is very little that can not be learned from books, and spends a great deal of her time in the Howarts library. Hermione clearly values brains over beauty; for example, only once during her six years at Hogwarts does she bother to straighten her fluffy hair (for the Yule Ball).

Hermione is an extremely kind and thoughtful girl, but can sometimes be overly skeptical and sarcastic. This, coupled with being the smartest witch in her grade sometimes intimidates others, causing people to distance themselves from her. As the most sympathetic character in the trio that also includes Harry and Ron, she can become quite emotional, bursting into tears or stuttering. However, Hermione proves many times through out the books that she is usually a confident speaker. She is usually opposed to breaking restrictions, and is very honest, but can bend the rules when necessary, such as when she is worried or deeply upset (as in Prisoner of Azkaban, when she quits Divination after reaching to her wit's end). Under extreme pressure, Hermione sometimes panics, and despite her intelligence, she's not always as quick on her feet as Harry, who can think up plans and strategies on the spot.

Hermione has experienced bullying, by Ron in her first year, and then in continuing nasty comments that are fired at her every so often about her looks or know-it-all attitude from other students. This makes Hermione especially aware of the harrassment of others, such as Hagrid. Though she often mutters words under her breath in suppressed rage, she sometimes lets her anger get the best of her: she once punched a smug Draco Malfoy in the face. Despite being fairly sensitive, Hermione is usually less impulsive than Harry or Ron, commonly stopping the two from getting into brawls with Slytherins and the like.

Hermione shows a blossoming social conscience by becoming quite concerned about the living conditions of house-elves. For this reason, she founds the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, or S.P.E.W. She also comes up with the idea to found Dumbledore's Army and is a vital member of the group.

Though being Harry's closest female friend, the speculation that Hermione and Harry may have a romantic attachment to one another has been permanently put to rest by the events of Half-Blood Prince, in which the characters are attracted to Ron and Ginny, respectively.

Hermione's use of logic and academic prowess often come in handy outside of the classroom. In Chamber of Secrets, Hermione brews a highly-complicated Polyjuice Potion, and is the first person to discover the identity of Slytherin's monster, though she is Petrified before she can tell anyone about it. Because of the use of a mirror to look at the creature, her research saved not only her own life, but that of Penelope Clearwater as well, who was found Petrified along with Hermione.

Ron Weasley

user posted image

Ronald (Ron) Bilius Weasley is a student in the Gryffindor house of Hogwarts, the sixth child in the Weasley family, as old as Harry, and Harry's best friend. Ron is tall, red haired and gangly, with freckles, big hands and feet and a long nose. His full name is Ronald, but nobody except Luna Lovegood uses it routinely. (His mother and Hermione Granger use it when sufficiently annoyed.)

Ron provides much of the book's comic relief because of the sarcastic wit he uses frequently in the books, reminiscent of young Sirius Black. He comes from a large, poor family, and receives many hand-me-downs from his older brothers, to his annoyance and embarrassment. He finds irritating when his family adorns love on him, (especially in company), such as his mother kissing him, or Fred and George joking about him. Ron, however, rarely asks for money from the richer Harry, and this suggests that his family have dignity and morals.

Ron is, in many ways, Harry's complete opposite, and is as such the foil to Harry the protagonist. He is poor, not famous, and has a less striking appearance (apart from his hair), and is tactless. However, Ron has a large and very loving family, which Harry greatly envies. Where Ron would swiftly wipe off his mother's kiss, Mrs Weasley kissing Harry makes Harry feel tingly.

Ron's most predominant trait other than his wit is his tactlessness. It comes as an annoyance to Hermione in particular, who constantly brings it up, but can be irritating to Harry as well, especially after a would-be successful conversation with his crush, Cho Chang, in which Ron attacks her for her Quidditch team. This is another of Ron's traits- if he has an opinion he will stick by it and is not afraid to voice it, much like Harry and Hermione. Ron is more unmovable than his two friends when it comes to his opinion.

He can be loud-mouthed and impulsive, and this can often get into trouble. One memorable instance is when he defends Hermione after Snape calls her an "insufferable know-it-all", and the intake of breath afterwards indicated he had gone too far. He is good at threats to his enemies and can make someone fall silent in an argument, such as Zacharias Smith during the first DA meeting.

Ron is arachnophobic, though he manages to overcome even that fear for his closest friends. Apparently, one of the twins turned his teddy bear into a spider when he was three, and that scarred him for life. He is a member of Dumbledore's Army.

Ron becomes Gryffindor Keeper in the fifth book, but is not very good at it, unless he gains confidence, often in the shape of Lavender Brown. The Slytherins wrote a song about him in the fifth book, Weasley is our King, which the Gryffindors get to sing when he wins the Quidditch Cup.

Luna Lovegood

user posted image

Luna Lovegood, also called 'Loony' (but only if she doesn't hear it), is a student in the Ravenclaw house of Hogwarts, in the same year as Ginny Weasley. She lives in or around Ottery St. Catchpole, a few miles away from the Burrow, where the Weasly family lives

Luna has straggly, waist-length, dirty blonde hair, pale eyebrows and protuberant eyes(which imply deep insight). Her strange clothing consists of A long silvery dress for special occasions, radishes (actually "dirigible plums") in her ears, a string of butterbeer corks around her neck, and her wand behind her ear. She has unconventional beliefs, she is thought to be a bit of a weirdo in her peers' eyes. Luna, almost always distant, is quite fearless, showing little emotion in the face of danger. Luna is a member of Dumbledore's Army.

Luna's father publishes the magazine 'The Quibbler' She believes and treasures the magazine, apparently keeping tabs on its highs and lows ("Oh yes, circulation's well up!"), and she is pleased when Harry gives the Quibbler an interview.

In her sixith year, Luna is trapped in the Malfoy's celler, along with Olivander, Harry, Ron, Dean Thomas, and a goblin. That's when Dobby came to save them, and took them to Bill and Fleur's house. There she kindly spoke some powerful, yet morning words about the passing of the brave house elf.

Some of the creatures that Luna believes in, but no one else does, are the Heliopath, Blibbering Humdinger, Crumple-Horned Snorkack, Nargle, and Aquavirius Maggot. Luna also believes that Sirius Black was in fact Stubby Boardman.

Speaking pattern

* Luna’s often stating the obvious ("You’re Harry Potter", "pointing unnecessarily")
* Luna’s voice is described as dreamy, vague, dignified, politely interested (when asking Harry about the 'rescue mission', thus completely unfitting), once she’s speaking in a sing-song voice; other than that she’s talking dreamily, vaguely, calmly, interestedly, happily, serenely, eagerly, conversationally (this last one about her mother’s death)
* Luna can be blunt (to Ron about Padma: "She didn’t enjoy [the Yule Ball] very much.")

George Weasley

user posted image

George Weasley is a student in the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts and the twin brother of the deaseased Fred Weasley. The twins are the fourth and fifth children in the Weasley family. They are inseparable, are constantly causing trouble, and know a lot of tricks. Both are members of Dumbledore's Army.

The twins' goal in life is to open a joke shop (Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes) in which they sell self-developed magical sweets, for example, the Skiving Snackboxes.

However, even though they have that up and running, the twins also wanted to help out as much as possible with the Order in book Seven. Thus- George Weasley lost an ear due to a flying curse, and nearing the end of the year, he lost Fred in the Battle at Hogwarts.

[/b]Percy Weasley[/b]

user posted image

is a student in the Gryffindor house of Hogwarts and the third child in the Weasley family. His younger brothers call him 'Pompous Percy' - but normally only out of earshot. Percy wants to have a career in the Ministry of Magic, so he works hard at Hogwarts. That earned him the position of a Prefect. In reward he was given Hermes, his owl, as a present from his parents.

In his last year at Hogwarts, which is Harry's third, Percy becomes Head Boy - the second in the family after Bill. In the same year, he starts dating his girlfriend Penelope.

In Harry's fourth year, Percy works for the Department of International Magical Cooperation in the Ministry of Magic. In Harry's fifth year, he is promoted to a Junior Assistant of the Minister himself, Cornelius Fudge. At the same time, Percy breaks ties with his family.

In Harry's fifth year, Percy Weasley declares that his loyalty lies with the Ministry, and provokes an outburst from the normally docile Mr Weasley. According to the Weasley children, every time Percy is mentioned thereafter, their father drops whatever he is holding and thier mother cries. The Weasley children now bare a grudge against Percy and rarely if ever mention him, and when they do always with some sort of derisive remark. Percy makes a point of demonstrating his split from the family:

* He sends back his Christmas jumper

* He shuts the door in his Mother's face when she comes to visit him

* In Arthur's picture of the family, Percy has walked out

However, Percy appears to only bear a grudge against his mother and father, and so he sends Ron a detailed letter congratulating him on becoming a Prefect, to tell Professor Umbridge| anything, and to stay away from Harry Potter; Harry in question appears unsure whether to laugh or not. Ron rips up the letter, calling him a git.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Percy returns with the new minister, Rufus Scrimgeour, to The Burrow. His mother is overjoyed, but the rest of the family bristles at his arrival, and eventually he leaves with no better ties with them after a food fight occurs.

Charlie Weasley

Charlie Weasley is the second-eldest child in the Weasley family. Like his older brother Bill, he has left Hogwarts already when Harry's story begins. Charlie was captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team at his time which is counted as much as Bill's position of Head Boy. Now Charlie is in Romania to study dragons.

In Harry's fifth year, Charlie is a member of the Order of the Phoenix, however working from Romania.

Bill Weasley

Bill Weasley is the eldest child in the Weasley family. When Harry's story begins, Bill has left Hogwarts already. He was Head Boy, which has set a scale mark (some of) his younger brothers try to reach. Now Bill works in Egypt as a curse breaker for Gringotts Bank.

In Harry's fifth year, Bill is a member of the second Order of the Phoenix. For this purpose, he moves from Egypt to England - a decision certainly supported by Fleur Delacour, who takes on a job at Gringotts in London. The couple have a daughter, Victoire.

Ginny Weasley

user posted image

Ginevra "Ginny" Molly Weasley is a student in Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, the seventh and last child in the Weasley family, and the only girl. She is one year younger than her brother Ron and Harry, on whom she has a crush beginning in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

In Harry's fifth year, Ginny is a member of Dumbledore's Army. As such, she was one of the six participants in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, where she broke her ankle. She also replaces Harry as Seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team after he is banned in his fifth year.

After "giving up" on Harry in her third year, Ginny began to date other boys at Hogwarts including Michael Corner (her fourth year) and Dean Thomas (the beginning of her fifth).

When Ginny is in her fifth year and Harry is in his sixth, the two begin going out. Harry, at the end of the novel, tells Ginny regretfully that they can no longer be involved with each other. Harry breaks off their relationship to protect Ginny, because Harry believes Voldemort would harm Ginny to get to Harry.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Ginny makes an appearance at the beginning and at the end of the book. She and Harry still have feelings for each other, as evidenced by her "birthday present" to him, a kiss interrupted by Ron. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione go off in search of the Horcruxes, Ginny goes back to Hogwarts, where she, Neville, and Luna attempt to steal the Sword of Gryffindor. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Ginny refuses to obey her mother and leave, even though she is under-age. In the epilogue, she is married to Harry, and they have three children: James, Albus, and Lily. In a July 30 interview with JKR, she states tht Ginny played on the Holyhead Harpies before settling down, having kids and becoming the Quidditch correspondant for the Daily Prophet.

According to Ron, Ginny is a great lover of cats. This seems reinforced later on as Ginny is frequently seen in the company of Crookshanks. Many of Ginny's actions are also described as "cat-like".

Ginny is fiercely independent. She has a bold personality and can assert herself. She frequently stands up to her brothers when they tease her or scold her. In one instance, she has even yelled at Hermione for scolding Harry.

Ginny is popular in school and has said to have a personality similar to Harry's mother Lily Evans (Potter). Many boys at Hogwarts have crushes on her and Ginny has dated Michael Corner, Dean Thomas, and most recently, Harry Potter.

When needed, Ginny can tell a boldfaced lie without blinking an eye. She has done this both to her mother, as well as other students at Hogwarts.

Ginny's main confidante is Hermione, who seems to know more about Ginny than her brothers do.

Ginny's favourite jinx: The Bat-Bogey Hex, which she is quite skilled at.

Harry associates Ginny's smell with flowers.

Draco Malfoy

user posted image

Draco Malfoy is a student at Hogwarts, in the same year as Harry Potter but in the Slytherin house and his natural enemy since Harry refused to drop Ron Weasley as friend in favour of Draco. Draco has blonde hair, a pale complexion, and grey eyes. He owns an eagle owl.

Draco always walks around with two 'bodyguards', Crabbe and Goyle. Both are big, heavy, stupid, and slow, so it's easy to appear brilliant against them.

Draco's father was, and is a member of the Death Eaters, the closest circle around Lord Voldemort. The Malfoy family is implied to be very rich and accordingly, Draco never misses an opportunity to drone about how poor the Weasley family is, or to complain about the bad influence from muggle-born wizards. However, it is possible that the family's current financial status comes from Draco's mother Narcissa Malfoy, who is a cousin of Sirius Black, rather than from Lucius; the books are actually silent on this distinction.

Since Harry's second year, Draco is the Seeker in the Slytherin Quidditch team. In Harry's fifth year, Draco is nominated prefect for the Slytherin house. Under the reign of Umbridge, he ia also a member of the Inquisitorial Squad.

Draco's other relatives mentioned in the books include his first cousin Nymphadora Tonks, whose mother, Andromeda Tonks, is Narcissa's sister.

In the sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Draco plays a larger role than usual.

Draco's name is first mentioned in the second chapter of HBP, in which his mother and his aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, visit the home of Severus Snape in Spinner's End. Narcissa alludes to the fact that Draco has been given a task to complete by Voldemort, most likely as a punishment for what Lucius allowed to happen at the Department of Mysteries a few months before. She begs Snape to protect and help Draco in this task, binding him in an Unbreakable Vow.

Readers first encounter Draco in person in chapter six, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione walk into Madam Malkin's Robes For All Occasions and find Draco arguing with his mother. Harry notes that Draco seems to be hiding something under his left sleeve. Later, the Trio follow Draco to Borgin and Burkes under Harry's invisibility cloak. Draco asks Borgin to tell him how to fix an object, using threats and a possible Dark Mark to get Borgin to comply.

Harry's suspicions are further supported by Draco's actions throughout the year. On the Hogwarts Express, Draco brags to his friends:

"I might have - er - moved on to bigger and better things." - HBP, US Edition, pg. 151

He also appears ill after some time, suggesting that the task is not going well. He resorts to desperate measures, such as sending Katie Bell to Hogwarts with a cursed necklace and poisoning a bottle of oak-matured mead, which he gives to Professor Slughorn. He also spends a lot of time in the Room of Requirement, using a disguised Crabbe or Goyle as a guard. At one point, Harry finds him confiding in Moaning Myrtle.

Finally, readers find out in chapter twenty-seven that Draco's task is to kill Dumbledore. He reveals all to Dumbledore and Harry, who is under his invisibility cloak, while the Death Eaters in Hogwarts fight their way up to him, yet fails to cast the Killing Curse. Dumbledore, upon hearing that Draco is doing this to save his family, offers to help the Malfoys go into hiding. However, the Death Eaters arrive before Draco is able to respond, and Snape finishes Draco's task for him. In the end, Draco fights on the side of good.
