Regirock
![]() Type: Rock Base Stats- 80 HP / 100 Atk / 200 Def / 50 Spd / 50 SAtk / 100 SDef Weaknesses: Fighting (x2), ground (x2), steel (x2), grass (x2), water (x2) Resistances: Normal (x0.5), flying (x0.5), poison (x0.5), (x0.5) Immunities: None Abilities- Clear Body: Regirock's stats can't be lowered by enemy Pokemon. Regirock was an amazing Pokemon in advance, and while he had some set backs in the transition to DP, he had even more improvements, such as the Sandstorm Special Defense boost, and additions to his offensive movepool. Supporter Regirock @ Leftovers Ability: Clear body EVs: 252 HP / 6 Atk / 252 SpDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Toxic - Stone Edge - Earthquake / Hammer Arm - Ice punch / Stealth Rock Toxic screws with most of Regirock's most common counters, such as Hippowdon, Donphan, and most other ground types. Stone Edge is your standard, powerful STAB move. Earthquake is mostly to hit threats such as Tyranitar and Metagross, but you can use Hammer Arm if you are really afraid of Tyranitar, and want to make sure you can really hurt him. Ice Punch will make things like Garchomp and Gliscor fear switching into you, and it is generally more useful than Stealth Rock, since every Pokemon and their brother can learn that move. Curser Regirock @ Leftovers Ability: Clear body EVs: 252 HP / 6 Atk / 252 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Curse - Rock Slide - Earthquake / Hammer Arm / Fire Punch - Rest / Explosion Curse boost it's average attack and already brilliant defense while lowering it's already useless speed. Partner this set with Sandstorm support, and Regirock becomes one hell of a wall. Rock Slide is probably gonna be more useful than Stone Edge here, since you'll be boosting your attack anyway, and the extra accuracy, PP, and flinch rate will be more than welcome. Earthquake, Hammer Arm, and Fire Punch all hit steel types, but Earthquake hits Metagross hardest, Hammer Arm hits Tyranitar very hard, and Fire Punch is able to hit Skarmory and Bronzong. Rest is here for your wall to last long, but you can go all kamikaze if you want and use Explosion. Choice Bander Regirock @ Choice Band Ability: Clear b=Body EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Stone Edge - Ice Punch - Fire Punch / Earthquake - Explosion / Hammer Arm 100 base attack, and 200 base defense makes Regirock a hard hitting Choice Bander that actually has the ability to last pretty long. Ice Punch is pretty much as necessity on this set to take out the ground types that will try to wall you. Fire Punch will probably be more useful than Earthquake, because otherwise Skarmory and Bronzong wall you silly. Explosion will seriously hurt pretty much anything, but if you don't wanna kill yourself, there's always Hammer Arm, because otherwise Tyranitar will poop on you. Other Options: Counter is an interesting option, as no physical attack will kill you in one hit, guaranteeing you get at least one KO in, provided you use the set correctly. Rest + Sleep Talk, since rest is Regirock's only form of recovery, well besides... Drain Punch can be used for extra healing capabilities. EVs / Nature: With Careful and 252 HP / 252 SDef on most sets, Regirock is able to take Special hits excellently, especially in a sandstorm. This makes Regirock a Specsmence, and even Heatran counter. The choice bander wants to maximize attack to go with it's average attack stat. It also needs to be fast enough to get a hit in. Counters: Swampert is the best counter for Regirock, as he has great defenses, and is NOT hit super-effective by any of his attacks, and, in addition, he can prey on Regirock's slightly weaker Special Defense with Surf and Hydro Pump. Most other Bulky Ground types will do, but have to watch out for Ice Punch. These include Hippowdon, Donphan, and Claydol. Bronzong doesn't really fear anything from Regirock (except Fire Punch), and can shut him down with Hypnosis, followed by repeated Grass Knots, Gyro Balls, or Earthquakes. Skarmory can phase the curse set, and doesn't take too much damage from him. Opinion: Regirock was one of my favorite walls to use in 3rd Gen, and he's back even better in DP. With the introduction of the Rock Types Sandstorm SDef Boost, Regirock now fears Bulky Waters much less, and can even be used as a special wall on Sandstorm Teams. With Ice Punch, Ground types have to think twice about switching in on him, and he has a great new STAB move in Stone Edge. He doesn't see nearly as much use as he should, and I have no idea why. Definitely the best of the Regis. |
