Venusaur
![]() Type: Grass/Poison Base Stats- 80 HP / 82 Atk / 83 Def / 100 SAtk / 100 SDef / 80 Spd Weaknesses: Flying (x2), fire (x2), psychic (x2), ice (x2) Resistances: Fighting (x0.5), grass (x0.5), water (x0.5), electric (x0.5) Immunities: None Abilities- Overgrow: When HP is below ⅓, the damage of Grass attacks is multiplied by 1.5. The Annoying Tank Venusaur @ Black Sludge Ability: Overgrow EVs: 252 HP/ 192 Def/ 64 SAtk Bold Nature (+Defense, -Attack) - Sleep Powder - Leech Seed - Grass Knot / Energy Ball - Sludge Bomb A standard Venusaur. Sleep Powder puts your enemy to sleep, which will force them to either switch, or stay asleep, allowing you to set up Leech Seed easily. Grass knot hits Rhyperior, Tyranitar, and Swampert hard. However, Energy Ball is more reliable when facing an enemy like Manaphy or Vaporeon. Sludge bomb is another form of STAB, that also helps take down other Grass Types. Choice Scarf Sweeper Venusaur @ Choice Scarf Ability: Overgrow EVs: 56 HP/ 252 SAtk /200 Spd Timid Nature (+Speed, -Attack) - Leaf Storm - Sludge Bomb - Sleep Powder - Hidden Power [Ice] / Earthquake With the choice scarf, Venusaur can just outrun an average choice scarf Heracross. Choice movesets are usually hit and run. Leaf storm is perfect for this, you'll switch out anyway so the special attack drop doesn't matter. Sludge bomb is another STAB attack, and is very useful when facing other Grass types. Sleep Powder gets those faster opponents that can cause trouble. HP [Ice] can get those popular dragons, whereas Earthquake beats Raikou, who will try to Calm Mind on you. The Support Set Venusaur @ Black Sludge Ability: Overgrow EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 SAtk Bold Nature (+Defense, -Attack) - Sleep Powder / Leech Seed - Reflect / Light Screen - Energy Ball / Grass Knot - Sludge Bomb / Charm / Amnesia Just use the moves that suit your team best. Other Options: Swords Dance can be used for a surprising physical set, along with Seed Bomb/ Earthquake/ Double Edge. HP Fire can be used to take down steel types. Synthesis can be used as a one turn recovery technique, but isn't encouraged because of the prevalence of Sandstorm in the current metagame. Toxic can be used if you want to apply more gradual damage to your opponent. EVs / Nature: EVs for Venusaur are mainly focused in HP, Special Attack, and one of the defenses. Max HP is always recommended for tanking sets, because it allows you to take hits from both the special and physical sides. On choice and special attacking sets a liberal amount of EVs should be placed in Special Attack. Counters: Most steel types are immune to poison and resist grass. Poison types resist both but the majority of them are slow. Salamence and Dragonite can come in on choice grass attacks or Leech Seed and force you to retreat. Celebi also can make an appearance in a similar fashion and threaten you with Psychic. Opinion: Venusaur is a great special or defensive tank. Venusaur can come in on the main physical attackers of this generation including Rhyperior, Gyarados, and Electivire and can punish them thoroughly. |
