See, the problem with that logic is that this ISN'T aimed at us.

Quite literally that would be like someone going "Oh, whoops, god's not good, that's Satan, he's actually saving us. God's evil"

I know, I know, I know "BIONICLE has no relation to religion" and all that crap, but the fact remains that this is their form of religion, to blow it open like that would alienate the younger fans--WHO THIS IS BEING WRITTEN FOR.

This is LEGO, guys. L.E.G.O. If you don't like it, make up your own story. I have, repeatedly. But don't expect LEGO to pull a whammy like that just to satisfy a bitter jaded bunch of teenagers.

Srsly.

EDITED, 'cause I wanted to:

You ask why the universe would end if Mata-Nui dies, it's actually a somewhat common concept of a being who's literal function is to keep a universe, or universes alive.

Which I find to be weak storytelling, because it relegates Mata Nui to a plot device.

Can you HONESTLY say he has ever been anything BUT? Mata-Nui has done NOTHING since the beginning of BIONICLE, he's always been the prize, the thing that must be achieved in order for peace and all that to be restored. He is a plot device plain and simple. I personally prefer him like this, it basically makes the universe itself part of Mata-Nui, he dies, it dies. The very fabric of the known universe exists as a part of Mata-Nui, I'd say that's pretty cool.

As for everything not sucking after he was put to sleep, preparations, yo. He knew that Makuta was plotting, knew he couldn't stop him, and so prepared the universe to run without him. It sounds kind of lame, but it could be far, far, far worse.

So why wouldn't that still work if he dies?

A thought.

Farshtey has said that one of the Inika will wear the Mask of Life, but it hasn't been decided yet. He's also said that the Inika will have new masks next year, but not as mask packs.

Which leads me to believe that we'll be getting upgrades of the Inika already. The sets would probably have to have been designed already, or at least be in design stages, for Farshtey to know about them.

But we also know that sets come before story, and that he can't dictate to the set designers that a certain character be givena certain mask. What does this mean? I'm betting that none of the new masks will be designed as the Mask of Life, that none of them will look like Vezon's mask, that Farshtey will have to retcon it as being a fleshy Mask of Life because an Inika is wearing it.

This is definitely largely baseless speculation, as I don't really know if they're making upgrades to the Inika or not, but that's the feeling I get.

He's said that the new Inika masks are, so far, normal masks, texture-wise. So no more organic masks.

He's said several times that the MoLife on Vezon's head is only 'one of the forms it takes' during the arc.

So there we be.

I think that all the hardcore fans should band together and create a "purist" storyline. We could discount everything past MoL (that was a movie back in 2003, not a mask that determined the fate of the universe, remember?) and create our own storyline and sets. And, like... stay on Mata Nui with the Toa Nuva. Gasps.

Am I the only one that likes the current storylines?

As for Martin's comment on preparations not working if you die... it's like in Final Fantasy or World of Warcraft: If your healer dies, your party dies.

And even when the healers prepare themselves to take damage, there will always be a case where it's just not possible for them to stay alive... boom, there goes the party. And in Mata Nui's case, we can't pop a Phoenix Down, and he's the "healer" of the entire universe.

Kaboom.

I agree with PSP, but not as a "purist" storyline thing. More like a band of authors, that really would be cool.

No, A-D likes it, because he always likes the new things over the old things.

What can I say. He's young. One of these days he'll get old and cynical, realizing his past mistakes.

2003? Man, I hated 2003. I prefer to disregard everything post-Bahrag. That is, no Nuva, no tangible Makuta.

Actually, I was discussing a plot similar to the Makuta-is-good-and-Mata-Nui-is-really-evil kind of thing. How when a matoran was infected with a Krana (As it took place during the Bohrok Saga) they found out Mata-Nui's true plans, that he was evil and Makuta put him to sleep to keep him from controlling the matoran and making them think blindlessly that he was their leader, until he would finally turn on them once he had their trust and rule them ruthlessly. But instead, Makuta was hailed as the bad guy and Mata-nui simply letting the Matoran and Toa (Who were both created, if I remember correctly, by Makuta, but they turned on him) destroy Makuta. Ultimatly, it was a great plot, and if I ever get out of my fit of wirters block, I may write an epic based on it.

The basis of the epic was a matoran who was infected with a Krana and realized even after the krana was ripped from his face, that he needed to spread the word that Makuta was really good and m=Mata-Nui was tricking him. So it basically turns into one or two matoran, depending on where the story goes, against the entire island of Mata-Nui and six powerful Toa. I personally love it, and if the storyline had a sort of twist like that, I'd wet myself XD.gif

Despite the extremist assumption and the massive bit of wrongness there, yes, I like the current storyline.

To be noted, I do not like all the new things over the old things. I was not at all pleased with the Rahkshi. Good sets. Bad, bad storyline. The guys were barely touched on and they had a massive potential to be so much more. That's just what happens when you try and cram two storylines into 2003. I would've liked a tad more continuation in the Bohrok Saga, but the way things turned out said otherwise.

The Bohrok Va were bleh. Nothing more.

The Rahaga were not good. >< I prefer the 2003 Matoran to a very large extent. While they are "cute", persay, it really seemed more like just a jab to get a Turaga figure in there without actually putting a Turaga figure in there.

The Toa Hordika were a dissapointment. Their design, I thought, was cool, but the set itself pretty much failed in my mind. The elbow function was no good, as it was basically just an excuse to get a gear function in there. And the bodies were not very well composed.

I don't care much for Umbra. He doesn't look like a quality set. I've seen more than enough of that Great Ruru, and the claws coming out of the side of the neck are just weird. As for the roller skates, I thought those could've used a better design. And the color scheme could've been oh so much cooler.

Basically? The Bohrok Saga pwned pretty much all. That still stays as my favorite Bionicle Saga. 2006 was a great year, but it still doesn't really measure up to the Bohrok.

2006 is awesome, though.

People immediately think I have no nostalgia of the past years, which is complete meh and moot. I totally <3 the past years.

But I don't hate the new ones.

Just call me a fan. 9_9

As for past mistakes, technically with that logic, I'd realize that the past few years were nothing but crap and I was an idiot for ever liking the 2004 saga, the Bohrok, or (ZOMGZ) 2001.

But I don't. I liked the former years. I like the new years.

Heck, if I became "crusty and cynical" I wouldn't be in Bionicle. I'd dismiss it all as a childish hobby.

Not everyone gets cynical either, mate. I know people far past anyone's age here who are more positive than I'll ever be in my whole life.

Have fun being cynical.

I'll just have fun.
