Of course, the 80s had Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Van Halen, and others, but let's take a look at the one album that managed to revolutionize Metal. Before Guns N' Roses hit the scene with "Appetite for Destruction," Metal was just a good time. With GNR there, Metal got down and dirty. Sweet Child O' Mine was a different type of song, but it was still the #1 single at the time(1987), coming off of the #1 album. Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City, two of the Metal tracks, were both in the Top Ten.

The question I pose to you: Did Guns N' Roses' "Appetite for Destruction" have a significant effect on Metal? If so, did it revolutionize the genre?

I don't know how much the album "revolutionized" heavy metal, seeing as the genre was well-developed by the time it was released.

I will agree, however, that Appetite for Destruction and Guns N' Roses in general had an outstanding significant effect on metal.

Slash is known as one of the all-time greats of heavy metal guitar, joining the ranks of those such as Angus Young, Tony Iommi, and Kirk Hammet.

Axl Rose, although being the reason GN'R fell apart, is an incredible lyricist and all-around musician.

There will never be another band like GN'R or another album like Appetite for Destruction. Metal was not really changed by either of these, but they made parents everywhere yell "What is this shit?", and that is the definition of heavy metal, isn't it?

Odd, it doesn't make my parents say that... It's actually my mom's CD... It kicks ass when you listen to the same stuff as your parents.

I must add that Rocket Queen simple kicks ass. It goes from rocking your ass off to certain background noises, to power ballad-esque at the end, and get this, it makes the shit work! Hell yeah!

BTW, what album is that pic in your sig from? It's not off of any of the 7 albums I have, and it's too small to read. X_X

I was referring to the parents of the kids who were listening to GN'R in 1988, there. >_>

...And the image in my signature is from the Live at Donington DVD.

I was being sarcastic, there. >_> I obviously know what you meant. Come to think of it, my grandparents probably did say that to my mom. dry.gif

Isn't funny how parents have so much more to bitch about in our day and age than back in the Eighties?

Instead of GN'R, parents today are complaining about KoRn, Linkin Park, etc. o_O

My parents don't get on me for Linkin Park when I do listen to it. My mom actually gets into it, and my dad just leaves it alone. I guess they just don't want to be hypocrites.
