The main stories going around post Euro 2012 are of course the coaching vacancies which have been created since the tournament ended. Some were already expected before the tournament even started, such as Dick Advocaat leaving Russia and Slaven Bilic departing from Croatia. But others, such as Bert van Maarwijk no longer coaching the Netherlands or Laurent Blanc not in charge of France were directly related to the disappointing tournaments those national teams had.
Russia have not yet named a successor to Advocaat but the media are throwing around some big names as potential successors, Capello and Guardiola chiefly among them but are those just typical rumors without any basis in fact or is there some truth to them? We will find out relatively soon as Russia, and all of these teams begin World Cup qualifing in September and will play a friendly in mid August. Meanwhile the other vacancies have been filled and with some big names too, Louis van Gaal gets his 2nd crack at coaching the Netherlands, his previous effort ended in failure when the Oranje failed to qualify for World Cup 2002. Didier Deschamps has left Marseille and will replace his fellow World Cup winner Blanc as France's new coach. And Igor Stimac replaces his former Croatian central defensive partner Bilic as Croatia's new coach. |

Seems that Capello, if media reports are to be believed, will soon be named Russia's new coach.
So has making van Gaal, the new Netherlands coach brought an end to the van Gaal-Cruyff feud? Or will Cruyff now use his newspaper column to criticize the new national team coach? |

Apparently they just need to agree on Capello's salary before he becomes the next Russia coach. Spaletti has found success in Russia as a coach at the club level with Zenit but the Russian national team have a long history of underachievement. I wonder if Capello can turn that around?

The fallout from France's Euro 2012 exit: 3 game suspension for Samir Nasri for getting into it with a journalist, 1 game for Jeremy Menez. Something for new France coach Didier Deschamps to deal with.

And at the hearing Nasri's father apparently tried to head butt his son's agent!
Andriy Shevchenko is not only retiring from Ukraine's national team but from the sport entirely. He intends to go into politics, which in Ukraine is a rough and tumble world, just ask Yulia Tymoshenko! |
