The thread to discuss summer player and coaching moves in England.

Some which have already taken place:

-Kenny Dalglish out as Liverpool manager
-Alex McLeish out as Aston Villa manager
-Didier Drogba turns down offer to sign new Chelsea contract and will move somewhere new this summer. The question is where?

Roberto Martinez apparently turned Liverpool down and wnats to remain at Wigan so the Reds are now about to sign their 2nd choice, Swansea's Brendan Rogers to fill the vacancy created when they sacked Kenny Dalglish. Can Rogers create the fluid passing game Swansea used now that he will be at Liverpool?

On the player front, Lille's Belgian international Eden Hazard is headed to Chelsea. A good signing in my view.

I am happy with Rodgers arrival and look forward to what he can do with Liverpool. I would love to see the Reds get back to playing a slick passing game. That is what the club were known for in the 70s and 80s. And yes, the talent is there to play such a style now.

It also appears that Paul Lambert will be leaving Norwich City for Aston Villa.

Lambert is reported to have quit after the club refused him permission to speak to Villa.

Paul Lambert is to be presented tomorrow as the new Aston Villa manager. I am quite pleased with this development, Lambert did wonders at Norwich and while I do not expect miracles I do think he can make Villa at least into a midtable team so that we will not have any repeats of this past season with us worried about avoiding relegation.

Eden Hazard is leaving Lille for Chelsea in a big money move while Manchester United are signing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund. Both come praised as two of the brighter young attacking midfielders in European football.

I think the fact Chelsea are waiting this long to confirm DiMatteo means they are still holding out hope that some big name manager may become available after Euro 2012 is over. It is kind of cruel to be stringing DiMatteo along like this after what he brought the team but nobody has ever accused Abramovich of being kind hearted! laugh.gif

Nico Krancjar is leaving Spurs, where he barely played these past two seasons, and is moving to Dynamo Kiev. He should find playing time there, he is a skilled player but I thought had trouble adjusting to the pace of the game played in England.

I like the signing of Kagawa but my understanding is he is more of an outside midfielder who likes to cut inside, United still need a central midfielder who can create.

Some encouraging news about where in midfield Kagawa can play,

QUOTE
The Japanese midfield playmaker, playing in a more advanced role, has been in superb form for his country in their three recent World Cup qualifiers, scoring once and providing numerous assists to leave Japan top of their pool.

He can also play down the left, but Kagawa is eyeing a more central role at United, who narrowly lost out on the title to Manchester City in May.

"I want to play (in the hole)," Kagawa told the Kyodo news agency on Wednesday. "I feel like that's where I play my best football. I plan on working hard so I can win my place at the position.

Excellent news as it would fill a direct need.

Kagawa looked quite impressive in that role against Australia the other day, but lacked the forwards to convert the opportunities he created.

Bloody hell, Harry Rednapp is out as Tottenham coach!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/ju...ttenham-hotspur

I did not see that coming. But here supposedly are the reasons,

QUOTE
Harry Redknapp has parted company with Tottenham Hotspur after the chairman, Daniel Levy, refused to grant him the contract and assurances that he wanted. Levy has made Everton's David Moyes his No1 target to take over as manager.
**************************************
Redknapp had gone on the offensive in recent weeks, appointing the agent Paul Stretford to handle his demand for what was effectively a new four-year contract and urged Levy to tie him down quickly in order to avoid unsettling the players.

But Levy grew frustrated with Redknapp for a number of reasons, chief among them the disastrous finish to the season that he oversaw, which culminated in Tottenham missing out on Champions League qualification. Levy felt that Redknapp's courting of the then vacant England job was disrespectful to Tottenham and also led Redknapp to lose focus.

When it seemed that the Football Association was likely to offer Redknapp the England job, the manager cooled on new contract talks at Tottenham and there was an argument over the high compensation figure that Levy indicated he would demand in the event of an official approach from the FA.
