The two Robbies in the Championship had rather contrasting days yesterday---Robbie Findley scored for the first time in months, helping Nottingham Forest to a victory over fellow relegation battlers Coventry City---but Robbie Rogers, making his Leeds debut, was knocked unconscious and ended up in the hospital with a concussion during their win over Doncaster. We've all seen what brain injuries can do to a players life and career, I hope they give him proper recovery time.

Anyone who can watch a film of Pelé dummying the goalkeeper in the Mexico World Cup or Muhammad Ali beating Foreman in Zaire or see Said Aouita breaking the world record for the ten thousand metres or whatever it was—anyone who can watch those things without tears in their eyes, without being moved in the same way as they are by a work of art is a philistine—there’s no other word for them.

just like to add that Jonathan Spector played 78 minutes for Birmingham City F.C. against Chelsea in a 1 all draw @ Stamford Bridge. That is a pretty big result for the Brummies.

A piece on Stuart Holden's latest injury rehabilitation.

He is an optimist and a hard worker but reading this makes you realize he also is a long way from returning to the field. No timetable has yet been given but the article implies it will at least be another 6 months before he starts playing again for Bolton.

Clint Dempsey's growing reputation continues with this great goal:

I don't recall Dempsey previously being much of a threat on free kicks before or am I suffering from memory loss? Anyway the US could use a free kick threat so nice to see Dempsey scoring from one.

Seriously indeed. He will likely become the highest paid US player ever in professional soccer history it occurs to me.

Would love to see him, LD, and maybe Josy just go offensively crazy in qualifiers....

Guzan is out of contract at Villa and will not be renewed. It will be interesting to see if he can stick in Europe or whether he comes home to MLS.

Aston Villa's new coach Paul Lambert wants to keep Guzan and thus he just signed a new contract with the club. He'll still have to compete with Shay Given for playing time though.

Unfortunately neither Guzan or Eric Lichaj have yet played for Aston Villa in the new season but it is early days still.

Leeds of the 2nd divsion have loaned Robbie Rogers to league One (3rd Div.) Stevenage. Who by the way are coached by forner Colorado coach Gary Smith (the guy who coached them to their only league title.) Rogers seems to be drifting away, a year ago he was on the national team, now he is playing 3rd division football.

Maurice Edu is about to sign with Stoke City in a free transfer from relegated rangers. Curiously both Edu and Geoff Cameron, who played togetehr at centerback for the US against Mexico 10 days ago will now be teammates at Stoke!

Lichaj came off the bench and played the last 30 minutes or so as Aston Villa lost 3-1 to Everton. Dempsey, however, still has not played for Fulham as he pushes for his transfer away from there. He has 6 days to do so.

what is up w/ Robbie Finley? I was watching Forest get smashed by Wigan today in the League Cup & couldn't help but wonder why I didn't see him anywhere near the pitch.

I don't know, I simply read he was left off the game day roster for that match. Sounds like Nottingham Forest's manager is not a big fan of Findlay.
