I mentioned this in more detail in the Brasilian club thread but Freddy Rincon is now managing a small club in Sao Paulo state called Sao bento. Last weekend Rincon's team beat Santos in state league play.

I've been away for a week or so but I wanted to welcome our new poster Hartfield, good to have another colombiano here. A Diablos Rojos fan huh? Me, I'm with Atletico Nacional. Hartfield, I see where America have already fired their coach and are hiring Roberto Cabanas as manager. Good player but remains to be seen how he'll do in management.

Mao Molina has been a big disappointment. He is talented but yes, I too think he lacks desire and he's also slow. He's never been able to replicate the form he showed with DIM in the 2003 Libertadores.

Sergio Herrera is back in Colombia with Deportivo Cali after playing in the Middle East. I hope he can start scoring goals regularly as he may be Colombia's best hope for a #9 with Juan Pablo Angel getting up in age.

Good to see Rincon as a coach, I wish him well.

Do you guyz remember Jairo 'El Tigre' Castillo?? I see he is playing for Millonarios now. Do you think he was an underachiever?? I remember when he was playing for Club Atlético Independiente de Avellaneda, he didn't get along w/ Federico Insúa. It was a shame he didn't do better in his career.

he doesn't play in millonarios anymore. i dont think he has a club at the moment.
at his best he was really good he was set to go to Italy but then he got drunk an ran over some ppl then he did it again. A complete drunk, loser, mediocre etc.. a mediocre player that's all serves him right he should be in jail.

I also believe Castillo is clubless now. He had talent but wasted it with his undisciplined lifestyle off the field. he isn't the first player to do that and won't be the last.

Colombia seems to have a lot of players who pop up and have a good year or two then seem to disappear again. Here is another one, Johnnier Montano who was starting in Serie A as a 16 or 17 year old. What has happeend with him? Sergio Herrera who was mentioned earlier in this thread is another one. I know every country has examples of players like this but it seems like Colombia has more than it's share of them.

Johnnier Montano was with Cortulua in Colombia's 2nd Division in 2006. But he left the club at the turn of the year suppsoeldy for a tryout in Holland but I have no idea how that went. I did an online search and couldn't find anything new on Montano so I imagine he is still looking for a club. Yet another talented player who wasted his skills with indiscipline. I believe Martin is right, every country has it's players who don't live up to hype or have their careers derailed because of drugs, drinking, women, or all of the above but sadly in Colombia we do have more than our share of such players. Montano and Jairo Castillo are two excellent examples of this but they are far from being alone.

montano i believe is playing in Sport boys.
the problem with colombian plpayers is:
1. they come from the poorest dirtiest places of Colombia. so they lack education and manners and presence.

2. they have no early training. they're just picked up because they can dribble allright and they're black so they don't know anything so they can pay them whatever.

Hartfield,

Racist commentary won't be permitted on this message board. Players like Montano and Castillo didn't fail because they were black and signed poorly paying contracts because they didn't know better; these players were earning good money, they failed to reach their potential because of their undisciplined lifestyles off the field.

I don't see anything racist. no one is saying that they failed because they were black.
What i'm saying is that they're are being exploited because of their race and status. nothing racist there. the simple truth.

Well said Merengue, this is a forum where we can discuss topics without getting into racial stereotypes. There are many players around the world of all races who came from poor backgrounds who can't handle the sudden success and fame and allow off the field problems to effect their on field performance.

You might not see something not racist, I do. You could have easily pointed that they were from poor & not well educated backgrounds, but you chose to point out the fact that these playas are black. What does skin color have to do w/ their failures on & off the pitch??? I think you need to re-evaluated your decision process. user posted image
