Thanks Jon, hard to believe the state seasons are beginning. The start of 10 1/2 months of football in Brasil.

Neymar scored his 100th career goal yesterday although Santos did lose 1x2 to Palmeiras in their Paulistao match. Neymar just turned 20 and those 100 goals are those scored with santos in the Brasileirao and Paulistao, international tournaments and goals he has scored with various Brasilian national teams. Still a pretty good accomplishment days after turning 20.

As for the Paulistao, Santos have won it 2 straight years, part of the club's fans would like to see the team go for a 3rd consecutive title but I am not one of them. I want to see the team do well in the Libertadores and hope they can have a good season in the Brasileirao which starts in May. This prolonged Paulistao is to me nothing more than an extended preseason.

Sao Paulo's young centre forward Willian Jose is off to a fantastic start to the Paulistao season, he has scored 7 goals in 5 starts, including 3 in Sao Paulo's recent win over Paulista. But he picked up a red card at the end of the game and will miss Sao Paulo's next match which happens to be Luis Fabiano's first since his return from injury. Despite his great form you have to think Willian Jose is still Luis Fabiano's backup.

Adriano is losing some weight and doing alright in training, Corinthians say he should see his first minutes of the new year this weekend when Corinthians play Sao Caetano. Douglas should also see his first playing time with his new [old] club.

Adriano's weight loss program must be working. He scored for Corinthians on Saturday as they beat Botafogo SP. Neymar scored a pair in Santos easy win over Ponte Preta. Sunday is Palmeiras-Sao Paulo in what should be a good matchup.

Hernan Barcos is looking like a good signing for Palmeiras, he scored twice in an entertaining 3x3 draw with Sao Paulo. The ex Liga de Quito striker has 4 goals in 4 matches for the Verdao. Willian Jose, the sub20 winner scored again for Sao Paulo, he is becoming a good fill in for the injured Luis Fabiano.

Barcos is still scoring goals, he got 2 more this weekend in palmeiras win over Botafogo SP. The man is adapting well to Brazil.

Luis Fabiano is back from injury and he and Jadson scored as Sao Paulo defeated Portuguesa. Luis Fabiano's return from injury is very good news for Sao Paulo.

And the Adriano saga continues with Corinthians benching him for his lackadaisacal efforts in training and to try and get fit. His contract runs out in June, don't expect it to be renewed.

Corinthians and Adriano have agreed to part ways and his contract has been rescinded. Not sure where he will end up now as he does not seem interested in getting himself in shape.

Yes there can not be many clubs left willing to gamble on Adriano. Maybe a club in China looking to make a name for itself?

Ronaldo and Ronaldinho each returned to Brasil and were serious about playing, Ronaldo unfortunately was sidelined again by his numerous injuries forcing him to retire and say what you want about his late night actvities Ronaldinho, while not at his 2006 best, is still a productive player with Flamengo, rightly or wrongly doing enough to get a recall to the national team.

Compare them with Adriano who just does not want to get himself in shape. I agree that it will be unlikely now that some club will take a gamble on him, all the more so because in addition to his fitness problems, Adriano would ask for a juicy contract. I just can't see many clubs willing to offer him that. This was his chance for redemption and he seems to have blown it.

The final straw for Corinthians came when Adriano refused to weigh himself. By freeing themselves of Adriano, Corinthians has some money free now, I wonder if they will seriously try and sign Carlos Tevez after the European seasons end?

As you probably know by now Alexao, many of our fellow Flamengo fans are pushing the club to sign Adriano! Even with all his baggage, the fans spent part of Thursday's Copa Libertadores game with Olimpia shouting for a return of "The Emperor!" huh.gif

No way does Flamengo need Adriano, not with Vagner Love at forward.

A good game over the weekend as Sao Paulo beat Santos 3x2 in the Paulistao. It really was a game Santos probably should have won as they had a man advantage at the end but they showed some fatigue I think from their trip to Peru last week in the Libertadores. It was Lucas Moura scoring the gam winner for short handed Sao Paulo and upstaging both Neymar (who also scored) and Ganso. Lucas Moura has had some up and down games recently but he is a great talent and I look forward to seeing he, Neymar and Ganso combine together on Brasil's Olympic team. With Sao Paulo, Lucas is starting to lin up with Luis Fabiano which promises to become a dangerous partnership for the Tricolores.

Corinthians x Palmeiras tomorrow should be an entertaining game. I have been impressed with Hernan Barcos "The Pirate" for Palmeiras. He has a good eye for goal. Not sure how ready Corinthians will be for this clasico after their Libertadores games but they will find a way to get ready to play the Verdao.

Once again the Paulistao proving to be the most interesting of these endless state championships.

Corinthians won their derby with Palmeiras but sad news off the field as fans of the two clubs clashed on a route to the stadium (even with the police escorting Palmeiras fans!) and sadly a Palmeiras fan died of a gunshot wound.

The linked article says crowd violence has pretty well been controlled inside the stadium, it is outside where the problems can occur.
