I'd better make a thread where I feel right at home
So far in the Championship there haven't been many suprises. Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Brom all in the top five with Cardiff top of the league via goal difference. Barnsley have started where they left off last season, at the bottom half of the table. With them are newly promoted Peterborough and Ipswich. In League One so far I haven't been happy with Millwall this season. One win, three draws. Fair enough, we haven't been beaten, however, we should win against Carlisle at home. Three points wasted in my opinion. Charlton and Leeds are at the top with 12 points each out of a possible 12. Newly promoted Brentford are making themselves feel right at home in playoff contention. Colchester are the suprise package for me. Demolishing Norwich 7-1 and are in 3rd place. |

I am wondering if Notts County are capable of doing what Hoffenheim did in Germany and rapidly climb from obscurity into the top division? Signing Campbell is a real coup, as the linekd article states, some premier league managers were saying he is still a top level premier league defender. |

Hey Millwall Dave you weren't mixing it up with some Hammers fans in the League Cup were you?
http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-...uters&type=lgns Interesting that reading the link about Sol Campbell he says people would be surprised about how unorganzied some Premier League clubs are, well no surprise he'd say that after leaving Portsmouth! I am looking forward to following this thread throughout the season. A quick question Dave, is Zak Whitbread still with Millwall? He holds dual US-British citizenship and represented the US at the youth level about 4-5 years ago. I was curious as to how he's been playing lately. Edit: Hey this was my 1,000th post! |

Yes, very sad goings-on at West Ham last night. I know another Millwall fan who was aware that something like this could kick off.
Good thread idea, by the way. I'd say that lower league football in England is the best-supported, on average, in the world...unless anyone knows otherwise? |

I wonder if Elijah Wood & the GSE started the troubles between Hammers & Millwall

I went with a group of twenty lads, pure chaos everywhere. Managed to get in the ground after what seemed like an endless police escort. Didn't care much about the result, just cared about getting home safely.
I feel lower league English football is probably the most supported in Europe. |

If I am not mistaken I seem to recall that the English Championship league (aka 2nd division) is only bested in attendance in Europe by the first divisions in Germany, England and Spain. That might have changed this past season as some Italian clubs with small stadiums, Empoli, Messina, etc. were replaced in Serie A by much larger clubs like Napoli, Bologna and Genoa. But with Newcastle and Middlesbrough each going down to the 2nd level of England that division should still see plenty of fans turning up.
I am just guessing here but I would bet Germany has the 2nd division league with the next best attendance behind England's. It is a credit to the football culture in both England and Germany that their clubs no matter what level they play in, are so well supported. |

I was just about to follow up w/ that statement. Sure there are some small clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga, but you have clubs like #1FCK, St. Pauli, & last, but not least, Union Berlin. I don't know if you heard this or not, but their fans helped build the stadium -------------------- |

Last night was Millwall v Brighton, and yet again I came home dissapointed. 1-1 was the final result, and drawing against the team with the worst defensive record in the country at home is worrying. Still unbeaten though.
I was more than satisfied with the first half. We tired massively in the second half. They gave it their absolute all just three nights ago against West Ham. Professional athletes or not, the level of effort and committment was never going to be replicated today, another day and maybe would have seen some recovery. Was disapointed Jackett couldn't change it, it was obvious Brighton grew in confidence and where knocking on for a goal for a good fifteen minutes before finally being given a chance even they couldnt miss. That being said we rallied and finished stronger but with no real end product. Extremely dissapointed with George Friend, I don't get what he brings to team. Tonight showed we have a thin and fragile squad, couple of injuries (Harris and Hackett) and we don't have enough in reserve. Our biggest problem remains goal scoring. We Don't seem to have anyone who is going to get 20-30 goals - its all we are missing. |

Don't get greedy Dave, there is not a professional club anywhere which does not wish it had a guy who can score 20-30 goals/year! Find a couple of guys who can score half or even a third of that total and your team should be all right. The unbeaten record is something to be proud of even in this early season. Sound slike the defensive end is functioning. Anybody from Millwall, we should keep our eyes out for who can make the jump up to a higher division? |

Not at the moment, although David Forde, Jason Price and Gary Alexander are what I call Championship material.
It seems as though Millwall has been the stepping stone for several Premiership players such as Kasey Keller who I regard as Millwalls greatest goalkeeper of all time, Tim Cahill, Teddy Sheringham among others. |

At least you are thinking football fans on this site.
I support Bournemouth, Torquay and Southampton, because as a boy those were the places I went. My first top division goal was scored (so I thought), by Dave McKay of Spurs at The Dell. Turned out it was Alan Gilzean doing an overhead kick, 9 becomes 6. The shipyard nastiness around Millwall/West Ham is nothing on river Plate/Boca, but I wish it would go away! |

League One match between Charlton Athletic and Brentford has just kicked off. The first time the two teams have played eachother in the league since 1992/93 in Division One.
I see Charlton edging this one, although I'd like to see Brentford win for the sake of Charlton being our local rivals. |
