I am happy that Utilero took up my offer to join this message board. I think he will be a very good contributor and as you can read from his intro he has a wide variety of interests in the sport. Like Dr. Z I too would like to see some links to the radio programs you mentioned, especially the ones from Uruguay and Colombia. I do listen to the ones from Argentina's La Red and La Plata. Unfortunately Radio Mitre who used to have a very good show no longer has a futbol show.

Welcome to the message board Dave, we all look forward to reading your contributions.
I think there is a young lad here, TKC who is from the Millwall area too. He used to post quite often here but has not been around much recently as I think he discovered girls! |

Haha, that may be right, TCK is I believe our youngest poster, he'll soon find out women come and go but football will always be there! I would like to extend my welcome to Millwall Dave as well and I think he will enjoy the variety of discussions here. |

Welcome Millwall Dave. In addition to the varied and mature discussions we have here, one thing I like about this site is that while there are supporters here of big clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Boca Juniors, there also are plenty of supporters here of less well known clubs so you should fit right in and this I think gives this message board a good cross section of discussions.

Hello everyone, my real name is Sam but that screen name is already taken so I chose a name of a character from SCTV, the old sketch comedy show- Sammy Maudlin.
I have read and occasionally posted at some other soccer message boards but got tired of all the bravado of some posters so I did a search and found this board. I have been lurking for a few weeks and decided to join in. Soon I will start posting here. |

And don't forget Lola Hetherton too! We don't need Doug and Bob McKenzie though as we already have hobbes representing The Great White North! Welcome to the message board Sammy. Do you have an afro and wear a powder blue tux like the other Sammy Maudlin? |

Thank you for the welcome and nice to read there are other fans of SCTV here. No, I do not currently have an afro, although I came close in the late 70s/early 80s. For those of you who do not know the other Sammy Maudlin, here he is next to his large sidekick William B.:

Yes, welcome Sammy.
The last 3 or 4 posts on this thread have gone right over my head, but I'm intrigued enough to have a root around on youtube tomorrow! |

Now you are really going to confuse the non North America posters hobbes! Welcome Sammy, and I too like your screen name, for those who don't know where it comes from, read this wikipedia entry about the SCTV sketch comedy show from the 1980s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_City_Television |

Well we don’t want confussion. SCTV came out of the Second City troupe in Toronto (which is still going and helped MIke Myers, some of the Kids in the Hall and my friend Lauren get their start). The one in Chicago has an even more impressive list of alums. The show was on a bunch of different networks over the years and in moved to the publicly funded CBC in Canada, but was syndicated on NBC in the US. Because the CBC has a mandate for fewer commercials, the CBC needed two minutes of more programming per week than NBC did. So they asked that it be “Canadian-specific content”. Since the show was shot in Canada by a Canadian cast, they found the request fairly ridiculous, so Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas created Bob and Doug McKenzie to make fun of the idea of Canadian-specific content. They tried to make them as stereotypically Canadian as possible right down to mimicking the flute riff used in the Hinterland Who’s Who ads the CBC constantly ran to teach us all about the noble creatures that shared our country with us. They talked about a bunch of nonsense and became cultural icons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsgVspgy184 cheers, hobbes |

Hi guys,
I've been lurking for a while on these forums after hearing about it from pitacodogringo, and have recently decided to sign up. I run the football website Just Football (Just Football) which is a site offering news, analysis and opinion on world football. Anyway enough with the plug. I really like the reasoned and informed debates going on here and will be keeping a keen eye on these forums from now on, hopefully offering my opinions every now and then too. Cheers. -------------------- |
