So what did you gentlemen think?

I thought Torres Nilo and Maza Rodriguez had strong outings as expected. I would like to see someone like Barrera play more centrally. Dos Santos, Acquino, Barrera ... the all can open up a defence, but if they're doing it that far wide (with Torres Nilo and Meza overlapping as well) there seems to be little end product in the area.

I did think Jimenez and Ayala both had pretty good performances and deserve more consideration. I thought Pena was dreadful and Flores did nothing to harm Meza's chances. Does Flores always play in the back? The defensive side of his game seemed to be lacking....

I was disappointed in Reyna who I thought added some spark against the U.S. He had some moments, but didn't have the impact I expected.

Torrado and Bravo don't seem to have much left to offer.

Yet another tepid display from Mexico. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the young Peruvians, but I expected Mexico to create a lot more danger.

Do they try something completely different for Nigeria or hope that it's the performances of the players and not the system that is holding them back?

cheers,
hobbes

Very true hobbes and thanks for joining the discussion here. Mexico is really lacking in creativity from central midfield now and that is something very surprising. You raise a good question about what Chepo will try next month against Nigeria, and the subsequent Word Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup. Obviously the foreign based players will return and I think this scoring slump will prompt the coach to approach Carlos Vela about returning to the national team.

But Vela is not a playmaker but I think his inclusion could cause Giovani Dos Santos to drop deeper and act as a creative force. No doubt Chepo needs to consider some changes because currenty El Tri are playing very uninspired futbol.

I think some changes do need to be made, in 2013 the team have been playing pretty poorly. It is shocking considering how well they did in 2012 and before which is probaby why up to now Chepo De La Torre has not made any changes but I think his patience with the current set up ahs to be wearing thin. Like hobbes I see no point in Torrado and Bravo on the national team, each is past his usefulness at this level. The players are there for this team to function well but right now they simply are not doing that. Time i think to look to make some chnages (that doe snot mean widespread changes.)

The team for the qualifiers vs Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica plus the Confederations Cup:

Goalkeepers - Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca), Guillermo Ochoa (Ajaccio)

Defenders: Francisco Rodriguez, Diego Reyes (both America), Hiram Mier, Severo Meza (both Monterrey), Jorge Torres Nilo (Tigres UANL), Hector Moreno (Espanyol)

Midfielders: Gerardo Torrado, Pablo Barrera (both Cruz Azul), Jesus Molina (America), Jesus Zavala (Monterrey), Hector Herrera, Angel Reyna (both Pachuca), Carlos Salcido (Tigres UANL), Andres Guardado (Valencia), Javier Aquino (Villarreal)

Forwards: Giovani Dos Santos (Real Mallorca), Raul Jimenez (America), Aldo de Nigris (Monterrey), Oribe Peralta (Santos Laguna), Javier Hernandez (Manchester United)

Still no Carlos Vela, the rest are the usual suspects but DeNigris and Peralta each named to give Chicharito a number 9 to play off of.
