Plot One: Darker Than Ebony : Part One
Before the end of the last school year Hogwarts played host to a battle that ended with the death of one of the greatest wizards ever known. With the death of Albus Dumbledore the Wizarding World was submerged into a world of doubt and constant fear. The Dark Lord had returned and any wizard with doubts of his power had been put in his place. No where seemed safe or even was safe and many Wizarding Families quickly fled to Britain’s neighboring countries. Other families chose to remain but completely isolated themselves in their own homes during the three summer months. These brave (foolish?) families suffered the loss of their loved ones at the hands of Voldemort and his feared inner circle of Death Eaters dubbed the Knights of Walpurgis.
As the war went on the last thing on the minds of most wizards was getting an education. The Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, refused to have so many young wizards dropping out of school under his watch, or so he claimed. By late July of 1997 Scrimgeour passed a new law known as the Compulsory Education law (C.E). This law would require all under-graduate wizards to report to Hogwarts at the end of the summer or face the consequences of having his or her wand taken away and being thrown into Azkaban. By August the Ministry had sent magically binding contracts to the families of every wizard in Britain between the ages of fourteen to seventeen. The families were warned that if they didn’t sign the contract and send it back, then show up at King's Cross to return to Hogwarts on September 1st, their students would be arrested. Most families bent to the will of the Ministry, while others resisted by sending their students into hiding.
By mid August all families who had failed to reply with a signed contract received a visit from Ministry officials who immediately sent their students to Azkaban prison. It would take the Ministry until September 15th to finish rounding up students. The final group of students captured was to be Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Harry Potter, the boy-who-lived, the same boy who should have been his own quest at that time, was locked away in Azkaban. A few weeks later the prisoners were taken to join the rest of the students at Hogwarts. But Hogwarts was no longer the amazing school of enchantments and wonders.
Now Hogwarts is like a cold prison where students desperately wish for freedom. And in the darkness of the night danger lurks just waiting for a chance to strike…
The students are sitting ducks at Hogwarts. Hopefully the Ministry will realize this before it is too late.
