Well, since I seem to get into a "builder's block" with some of the stuff that I do (as most of the parts end up being fabricated, or MASSIVELY ALTERED), and I DON'T SEEM TO GET ANYTHING DONE LATELY...................... Last night, I went and grabbed a kit off the shelf, and started BUILDING A MODEL, rather than "hand-fabricating" everything that I come to!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe this "change of pace" will keep me from .......... I'll post some "in progress" pictures this evening!!!!!!!! TECHMAN ps----and since the car will "eventually fit in this catagory", that's why I posted here.................. -------------------- DJ's RULE FOR WINNING: OVER CAM IT, OVER CARB IT, OVER GEAR IT, THEN......... Thats what happens to me too D.J.. When I have to fabricate things I guess I get side tracked and start another idea that happens to be floating around in my head. Can't wait to see what you are up to now.

Know what ya mean DJ. I get so involved, and want to do so much, I get bore with it. Then it sits till I come back around to it. In the meantime, I'll start two or three other projects. No wonder I can't finish one on time.

Y'ALL ARE SINGING MY SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to go get the camera tho, and take some pictures and "just build" this thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First "model" that I've felt "relaxed" about building in I don't know how long!!!!!!!!!! (Kinda FUN!!!!!!!!!! And, if I "remember correctly", that's SORT OF WHAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Well, I went to the "closest pile" of models, and grabbed the one "on top". That was the ONLY "consideration" in the choice of "which one to build". It's a "re-pop" of a 1962 issue kit, of the '62 Buick. Not exactly a "hard-to-assemble-kit", but, reminds me of what kits were like when I build models as a youngster. ![]() ........................................................................................................ Since this is "patterned after" a Buick that I remember racing in the SUPER-STOCK (new car class) at the Roundie-round tracks up home WAY BACK THEN, I had to "revamp" the interior to reflect what they "used to look like". I DID NOT WANT to get into "tons of fabrication", and since the seats are MOLDED INTO the interior, I had to "cut out" the passenger side bucket, and then, rather than "remove" the rear seat, I just "sanded" the seats down to "remove" the "fabric look", (to make it look more like sheet metal instead). The "black outline on the "insert piece" where the bucket was, is just an outline made by the SHARPIE MICRO MARKER that I use for this sort of stuff. Then "punched" the holes in the "back panel" where the braces for the roll-bar will go into the "trunk area". ![]() .......................................................................................................... The "floor patch" actually "sits flush" with the floorboard!!!!!!!!! The roll-bar is the "kit piece", with only a "tranny cooler" added (a VERY COMMON thing in the racecars back then, if they used an automatic transmission), will only add the two "back braces", and the one "diagonal" front one. (and that would have been a "State-of-the-art" cage for a "Stocker" back then), will add a fire extinguisher (they were required), and a gauge pack that has a Tach, oil press., water temp., and fuel pressure gauges. KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() ........................................................................................................... Using the "kit engine"......... (as you can see, they WERE NOT "blessed" with an "over-abundance" of details back in those days in the "run of the mill" kit engines.......) Will only add a "parts box" carb+air-cleaner, and an "aftermarket" pre-wired distributor. Whatever "detail" from there, will be done with PAINT ONLY, and then will "plumb & wire" the engine compartment (something I REALLY ENJOY doing). ![]() ............................................................................................................ NOT VERY EXCITING so far, but, I have my "idea" of what it "should end up like", and, (just like it used to when I was "a kid"), that thought gives me the "desire" to "get in there, and work on it"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More pictures as "things happen"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TECHMAN -------------------- DJ's RULE FOR WINNING: OVER CAM IT, OVER CARB IT, OVER GEAR IT, THEN......... O-V-E-R---R-E-V---I-T---!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah dude, this is exactly what I was hoping you would do. I really dig the "oddball" cars for stockers. There were alot of them around here in central IN. Guys that just wanted to out and play and had an old junker hanging around the yard. Cool stuff D.J.!

Looking good there!! I hate those molded in seats! Such a pain in the butt!!
I have things I ''try'' to build quick, but they end up getting way to much detail and time than I originally anticipated.. -------------------- A little rail rubbing never hurt nobody.!!!!

Okay, got paint drying on the interior and engine, so here's TODAY'S progress...... ............................................................................................................ Removed the front "inner fenderwells", and enlarged the rears ![]() ............................................................................................................... Opened up the fenders for the LARGE TIRES that "go on the car"!!!!!!! ![]() The wheelwells are ROUND....... somehow, the "angle of the picture" makes them look EGG-SHAPED............... ................................................................................................................... And, a sort of "mock-up" of what the car will eventually look "something like". ![]() .................................................................................................................... It'll have to have "side rails" (kick rails for some of y'all!!!!!!) and some other "odds and ends", but, it's REALLY FUN not to be "fabricating everything" that I touch (for a change!!!!!). It's even got me "tinkering" with a couple of the ones that I HAVE TO FABRICATE EVERYTHING that I come to. More pictures as progress continues.............. Didn't get any pictures yesterday, got all "engrossed" in fiddling with the gauges for the dash........... I FORGOT HOW MUCH FUN just "plugging along" with a model can be, and (for me), (and for a change), NOT FABRICATING EVERYTHING. Got a friend coming in from California this evening, so doubt that I'll get a chance to "do much" this evening, but, THIS THING IS KEEPING ME MOTIVATED!!!!!!!!
