Yaoi Vs. Yuri

has anyone ever noticed how much more yaoi there is than yuri? i always thought that was kinda strange. it seems to me, that for every yuri there is, like, twenty yaoi. also, you ever notice that people seem so much more open minded towards male/male relationships as opposed to female/female? i know they have started selling yaoi in borders and barnes & noble, but do they sell yuri? not that i can tell. i think that its kinda weird and kinda sad. girlxgirl can be just as fun as guyxguy. ive noticed this in forums before, people saying that they like yaoi but dont like yuri. i thought that kinda strange. what do you think?

and, as an aside, can anyone recomend me good yuri? i have yaoi coming out the wazoo, (no pun intended).

for the whole more people being open to yaoi, I think that only applies to the anime fandom. Before I really got absorbed (excluding my manga because i'm a bookworm) I never really heard about malexmale it was always femalexfemale which was so hot and MxM is disgusting. well until Brokeback Mountain and regular girls started squeeing over MxM.

Yaoi is orginally geared toward females. Yuri is used to gear mostly males audience but it's changing now. More writers are writing Yuri gearing toward females.

There are more Yaoi because more people are willing to translate them than Yuri. It may change in the future if translators like the new generation of Yuri.

I recommend reading Strawberry Shake Sweet (extremely funny), The Caged Miko and the Whimsical Witch (funny and sweet), Takahashi Mako's mangas, Morigana Milk's mangas.

i don't like Yuri myself but have no probs with Yaoi.
I dunno i just don't find the idea of yuri attractive. Guess it's a male audience afterall/

hmm for some reason, i don't feel the same thrill in yuri.. the thrill in yaoi is different.. just seeing them kiss or huggle each other can easily make me grin and squeal.. :grin: but in yuri, uhh.. i don't know :sweat:

maybe it's because seeing girls hugging ang holding hands isn't a big deal for me, since i also do that with my close buddies.. unlike in yaoi, i haven't seen boys hugging each other in real life so it just makes me flutter :grin: :thumbsup:

oh and yuri.. well, to me it seems, err, kinda boring..XD sorry yuri fans :sorry:

i dont read much yuri at all... only read it a few times... i don't really mind it. i do however like yaoi a lot... although there are some that i don't like too. but here is what i think:

1) i think most yaoi mangas have better drawings... like i like the style and stuff
2) most of the ppl are girls... so we would tend to read most guyxguy instead.... and some... or more... yaoi have handsome guys

and mayb other reasons too

Well my reasons for reading YAoi (Not aot though....haha) :grin: :
1) More interesting stories to read rather than the stupid shoujos where girls scream for help from guys :sweat:
2) It's a new view, to an open mind to real life :smile:
3) Better drawings :grin:
4) I myself, as a girl, wouldn't really like to see another girl...well, tht's me... :upsidedown:
5) It's not like I read EXPLICIT Yaoi...it's more for the stories... :heart:
6) Well,,,that's it...? :eek:

Okay, so let me see, it's not like I have anything about girlxgirl, but I just don't find the THRILL of reading it...like Ouran Host CLub girls...there're no MOE! :lol: for example, seeing Hikaru and Kaoru! A total OHEMGEE! :omg: ....seeing Haruhi with that one girl....yeah...not so much....
But I really wonder why, when girls say they read Yaoi for the story it's okay, yet when guys say they read Yuri for the story, it's SOOOO unbelievable to some.... :dead:

I'm into Yaoi (more than I'd like to admit :P ) but I've never seen Yuri anywhere so I haven't had the chance to compare. I personally have nothing against it, but I admit I do like seeing all the cute boys in Yaoi, and because I'm not into girls personally I might not get the same kick out of it.
