Hey guys,

For some reason I can't play commercial DVDs [as in, movie DVDs I buy from stores] on my computer. Other discs, like ones I burn, software discs, music discs, etc. work though. Just commercial movie DVDs don't.

My computer *does* detect them it seems. When I put them in, my computer tries to read them and the little disc icon appears next to my mouse but after a while, nothing registers and the disc doesn't show up in my computer.
I've also tried to play discs by opening them through various media players but it doesn't show up in the play menus.

I tried the same DVDs on a DVD player and on my mother's computer-- they work there. My mum has Windows Vista, I'm on XP, but should that make a difference? I thought I could play commercial DVDs on my comp before but apparently, not anymore..

Can someone help me out?

Do you know what region the computer is set in, or whether or not it has been set? Is it a MAC computer curiously?

Oops, sorry, I didn't realise someone had replied

Um my drive is set on Region 4 [Australia]. I bought the DVDs in Australia. The weird thing is that I used to be able to play movie DVDs on my computer but now it doesn't work.

Ok never mind, I've fixed the problem by updating my DVD drive's firmware so it's all good  thanks anyway
