What was Seth supposed to do, now that Alistair was gone? It had been nearly two centuries since his sire had gone and killed himself; now Seth was all alone in the world of vampires. He'd lived through a lot, since he was first changed.. He still wondered if this was how the other vampire had felt, before he found Seth; alone and desparate.

There were a few key differences, though. Seth had never lost his humanity, so to speak. He couldn't stand to kill humans for their blood; the other vampire did so on a regular basis. As a result, Seth spent most of the time out on the countryside, finding animals to feed from; which was absolutely disgusting. Seth might have been living the life when his sire was alive, but it was a living hell, now. (Ironically)

Currently, he was standing at the edge of an alley, his pearlywhite skin shaded by the cover of night. He looked out hungrily at the few people milling about, his stomach twisting in knots. He didn't want to be alone anymore...he wanted to find someone to sire--like Alistair had.

The problem was, his conscience refused to allow him. He couldn't damn someone to this fate the way Alistair had. Damn that vampire! Seth had been happy with the other male. Perfectly happy, and he had to go and kill himself. He'd gotten past the man, it was just...well, now he was alone, without the strength to rectify the problem. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets, and spit on the ground.

The year was 2003, if Seth hadn't lost track of the date like he so often did. Mid-November, in the chilly state of Colorado. He wasn't sure how he'd gotten this far inland over the years; for a long time he'd thought he would never leave the state Alistair had found him in...but he did.

And now he was here, in the dead of night, watching the snow fall gently from the sky. The ground was white; and so was his skin. He had dirty blonde hair, not long enough to put in a ponytail, but not short enough to keep out of his eyes. Before he'd gone out of his way to make it look nice; not so, now. He wore clothes reminiscent of the Victorian era; nice, party clothes. He stood out in a crowd, certainly. But the idea was, not to be in a crowd. Seth couldn't handle being around many humans at all. He had good control, but...living on animal blood for almost two centuries could make you loopy, he would say. The call of human blood was stronger to him, than to other vampires..

Sub-consciously, he was looking for someone to sire. Not a mate, but....just a friend. Or...something. He didn't even realize he was looking, though. Neither had he ever sired someone before; it wasn't like he knew how. The idea made him nervous. He tried to shake it from his mind, but it refused to budge. "Don't," he muttered to himself, running a pale hand over his face. He started down the street, his hands in his pockets, and his head down.

She loved this time of year. She had her doubts because it was here and not back home, but she had to admit, it was just as nice. The pavement clacked under her boots loudly, crunching noises mixed in with it as she stepped in snow every so often. She kept her hands buried in the pockets of her knee-length black jacket. She realized she would look quite ominous if she were a man--her head bowed, her hands in her jacket pockets, and her gait quick. Thankfully, she always wore her long, thick golden locks free to billow and thrash about in the piercing, icy wind of late autumn in Colorado. She squinted her emerald eyes at the end of the road ahead, trying to decipher the name of the streets. She wanted to get to her destination before someone called her an ambulance. On her way here, she had been asked at least seven times if she needed 1.) a ride, 2.) a warm place to sit, 3.) a doctor, and 4.) blood.

The fourth insulted her greatly. Jazz Le Beau had always been very pale considering her Cajun background, and despite what it normally represented for her, she rather enjoyed being so fair. It wasn't as if she had never experimented and tried to tan. She had. But she learned early on that she did not tan, she burned.

Her eyes sparkled in triumph as she read the street sign: Wolfe. In lieu of her horrible sense of direction, she found that any occasion where she found where she was headed without stopping to ask someone was a major accomplishment. She headed down the street in silent misery.

Although she had craved cold weather for a while now(Louisiana got very, very little of it, you see), she did not quite anticipate this. Back home, the coolest it got was low thirties and that was exceptionally rare. Here, she was willing to bet it dipped below zero frequently, and this scared her.

Jazz didn't see how she'd be able to hunt down her targets if she was working in these conditions. She could shoot her boss.

"It'll be fun, Jazz! A whole other part of the country! You'll get to see snow for the first time! Who says you can't enjoy yourself a little while you're there? And I know how much you love hiking and mountain climbing! Colorado's full of mountains and hills!"

She wondered secretly if her boss didn't work part time at a traveling agency. She'd have to look into it some time.

In the mean time, however, she had a mission to perform. She headed towards town square. There was some form of party or get-together going down tonight and she knew exactly what would be in a mass of happy, drinking humans.

Vampires.

Those leeches would be eying the humans like a cup of steaming, red-colored coco. Turning up the collar of both her jacket and her black turtleneck and checking to make sure her tight, dark jeans were still flexible enough, she also checked the holsters beneath her clothes and the inside pockets of her jacket. Everything was where they should be and completely easy to access. Feeling confident, she approached the crowd and began her search.

He wasn't hard to find. They stuck out like a sore thumb when you'd been in the business for three years. He seemed preoccupied with something. Probably some deep thought of some sort or the sight of one particularly succulent morsel. They were an easily distracted race. She approached him from behind, putting her head on his shoulder to speak in his ear.

"Looking for you next meal, leech?" she asked in her deadliest tone.

Seth finally went out into the crowd.. The humans here were having some sort of ridiculous party. Alcohol and oblivious victims were rampant. Dear god, he'd come to the wrong place. Without even thinking about it, he licked his lips. He had just started considering taking one of the humans aside--surely just one death of a human couldn't hurt?--when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

He blinked, hearing the more than threatening tone in the woman's voice, as well as the insult inlaid underneath. He spun around, his crimson eyes flashing. "You.." He trailed off. As a matter of fact, he hadn't been looking for his next meal...he'd just been trying to convince himself to. Or not to; whichever.

His hands curled into fists as he considered this woman; he was surprised that she had so approached him... It wasn't everyday that a young woman came right up to him and spoke to him in such a way. "Who are you?" He found himself asking, pulling his shoulder away from her hand.

Jazz had, somehow, managed to come upon one of the more...humanitarian vampires. That wasn't to say that he never killed humans.. He just avoided it, as much as he could. Or, as much as was convenient. Drinking animal blood was absolutely atrocious; he'd go insane if he didn't take blood from at least a few humans.

Seth realized, belatedly, that the woman--judging by the deadly tone, confident appearance, and the jacket that was perfectly capable of hiding weapons--that this could be some sort of...vampire hunter. He'd only encountered one or two in his entire two centuries of life. Usually he managed to avoid them...not the case tonight. "I'm not here to feed," he added a bit more quietly, his expression going from surprised to sour.

Jazz immediately tensed her body inconspicuously the second he turned to her, ready to attack at a moment's notice. Her lip curled in disgust at the color of his eyes. It was such a beautiful color, but meant such a repulsive thing to her now. Her eyes remained hard and unyielding as she considered him. He had just gotten there and the way he had been looking about the crowd, it was obvious he had been looking for SOMETHING.

"Right, sure," she said sarcastically, "Tell someone who doesn't know your kind. I saw you scanning the crowds, just itching to bite someone, I'm sure."

Her tone was icy and venomous. She had had a special hatred of vampires for her own personal reasons. She never spoke of them and no one even knew them aside from the slayers who had recruited her. Call it cruel if you want, but they had come to her because of the incident, knowing she would just love to help.

Despite how different they all looked and sounded, every time she saw a vampire, she saw the one face, the one vampire. No one else. It was as if they all had his face, had his eyes. She would see them as they were for the first second, but once she realized what they were, it was as if a mirage cut across her vision and he was there again, smirking and mocking her.

"So how should we do this?" she asked in mock consideration, "Should we make this an open brawl right here in the street or take it elsewhere?"

Seth put his thumb and forefinger on the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes. This was not his day. "The desire is there," he said coldly, "I haven't acted on it in decades." His eyes narrowed.

Contrary to her icy and venemous tone, Seth sounded more...resigned, as well as nervous. He was an older vampire, sure, but he had little in the way of combat experience. He'd only been in a couple scrapes and scuffles; none of them serious, and none of them against people who's job it was to kill vampires. Not, however, to say that he wasn't dangerous; any vampire could be dangerous, if they wanted to be...

When she asked where they should fight, he shook his head stubbornly. "I am not going to fight you," he said simply. "I've done nothing wrong tonight; nor did I plan to."

He figured the plead for peace would go ignored; but hell, it was worth a try. He watched her carefully, trying to rid himself of the desire to feed, building up inside of him.

If she did attack him, he would defend himself. He was agreeable towards mortals, but...he cared too much for his own life--or undeath, whichever--than he did for that of others, ultimately.

Her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"You expect me to believe that crap? Nothing in the world could make me believe you weren't just looking for a bite," she spat. "You're hungry. I can tell. If one of these mortals accidentally cuts themselves, that's it for them, right? Look at them, they're all drunk. It'll happen eventually. The last thing I'm going to do is leave and allow you the chance to break your paper-thin control."

Even as she finished, she let her eyes scan the crowd, watching for mishaps. It was downright irritating that she had to play mother for a whole crowd of people who were predominantly older than she was. Unfair was what it was, but hey, that was life.

Ah, well.. He couldn't particularly argue with that statement. He glanced around at the mortals present as she pointed this out, his eyes flashing dangerously.

"Nothing in the world, eh?" He asked, his lips puckering into a pouting expression. "A pity." Well, damn. What to do, now? He rubbed his hands over his pale face, and sighed.

Even as she said that, he could smell the distant scent of blood; someone had already cut themself. His gaze become more animalistic, and his hand fidgeted at his side. "Well, well.. I suggested we get out of this area, anyway." He wondered if getting away from so many witnesses would be the start of their fight.

That said, he brushed past her, sticking his hands deep in his pockets, and heading away from the group, half expecting a stake to get shoved through his heart on the way out; hopefully she would opt for a less visible spot to do so..

Jazz was sort of caught off guard by his sudden compliance to relocate. She tensed. What if it was a trap of some sort? But he was already moving, not waiting for her to follow. She didn't trust that he put his back to her. Did he just take it for granted she wouldn't take that opening, or did have confidence he could prevent her from it? Did he have allies somewhere in the crowd? Luckily for him, she wasn't one to stab someone in the back, figuratively or otherwise. Hesitant and uncertain, she followed at a safe enough distance, keeping up with him.

Once they were finally out of the crowd and in a secluded park, she stopped and barked at him,

"Okay, leech, we're alone. What is it?" she snarled.

He had to want something. There was no other reason for him taking her out here or leaving the safety of the crowd at all. She couldn't have very well killed him with so many witnesses and she knew he knew that. So why here, where she could? Unless he knew he couldn't attack her in the crowd for the same reason. She laid her hand on the gun inside her jacket and watched him carefully.

Once they were in the secluded area, he turned, slightly surprised that she hadn't moved to attack. But then, perhaps he was surprised that he hadn't attacked, either. But no, that wasn't true; he rarely killed humans. But he did...sometimes. He had no hidden plan though, no ulterior motive to get her alone to attack her.. Nothing. He was just using his 'paper-thin' control to keep from attacking some innocent bystander.

"What is it?" He asked neutrally, his eyes seeming almost amused. "Nothing at all." He stood quiet for a moment, wondering if his cooperation had cost him his gambit of peace. Would she attack? Or could he sway her with pursuasive gander?

"I want to be left alone, and I don't want to fight you." Those were his two goals. He didn't really expect her to believe him; but they were quite honest. He kept his hands in his pockets.

Damn it. He had been planning to sire someone tonight; whether he'd realized it before, he knew it, now. Why else would he have decided to go into such a crowd on an empty stomach, so to speak? And now she was stalling him; and he was just getting thirstier, and thirstier.. He took a hand out of his pocket to rub it over his face.

But wouldn't she make a good vampire? He took a very short moment to consider that. She was fiery tempered...which wasn't always good. But maybe then she'd be less hateful toward them...not that it mattered.

But could Seth be so selfish as to damn another person to such a fate?

Loneliness was a hard thing to take..

"I wish to know if there is anyway I can convince you to leave me alone." He finally said, raising an eyebrow. If not...then perhaps he would make her his own.. Or kill her...whichever chance arose itself.

Jazz was tempted, honestly. Looking into his eyes, she could, in fact, see a sadness there that wrenched the deeply buried bleeding heart she hid from the world out of its hiding spot. She allowed herself to feel sympathy for the young man. And that was the second she knew she needed to steel herself again. He wasn't a man anymore. He had either given that up or had it stolen from him by someone else, but whatever the case, it was all the same and that was no fault of hers. Frowning at him, she shook her head.

"No," she said levelly, "There isn't. It's my job to make sure any one of you in this area is closely watched at all times, especially those of you who wander the earth alone. We can't have you being tempted to make more, now can we?"

She forced herself to add the snarkiness to her tone at the end. She had no heart for it, though. She knew how he must feel, why he seemed so unhappy. Loneliness was indeed a heavy burden to bear. Such was also the life of a slayer.

As she watched him, she could also see the increasing thirst that made a small amount of fear that usually over came her in such situations rise. What if he attacked? She had no idea how old he was or how strong. She had sent many a vampire to their untimely ends, it was true, but they were all relatively young. This seemed to be the breeding season for them that generally came about every other decade or so and once a year throughout October. She watched him steadily, ready for the worst, should it happen.

Seth's eyes narrowed at her blunt statement. If she was trying to anger him, then perhaps it was working. That wasn't the most tactful response she could have come up with. A few retorts rose to his lips, but he kept himself from spouting any of them; he wasn't going to lower himself to pointless banter.

Anger...and thirst, he found, were not mixing well. He swallowed once, twice. His hands fidgeted in his pocket... And he was becoming increasingly aware of the steady thump of her heartbeat.

Seth was a good two centuries old, and equally strong. He wasn't experienced, though. He'd traveled alongside his sire for most of those years, and the older vampire had always taken care of whatever scrabbles they'd gotten into, until the last few decades.

As the world had come closer to the modern age, however, people became less suspicious. Other than the hunters themselves, of course, there was little for vampires to fear. And then, of course, there was the reasoning that Seth rarely ventured into crowded cities such as these.. This was a mistake.

"I was perfectly in control before you came here." he said abruptly, his tone slightly less calm. His eyes were a deep crimson; he took a step forward, despite his better judgement. "And you had to come here with your self-righteous, snide remarks.. When you have no idea - no conception - of what I do to seem less of a devil." He took another step forward. "And no matter how hard I might try, I will always be a soul-less devil to every person who knows my true nature." Another step forward. Finally he stopped, realizing he had lost his temper--as well as spouted some inner thoughts of his that were meant to remain private. He glared at Jazz, on the very verge of lunging at the woman.

Adrenaline spiked. Her heart was racing ninety to nothing. She narrowed her eyes back, tensing her body and preparing to fight back should she have to. The vampire was old, she knew, which meant he was strong. Scaring her more than he knew, she played tough and set her jaw.

"You're breakin' my heart," she hissed.

He was too close. She'd never let one come this close before. My God, the red of his eyes. He was losing control and losing it fast. Could she fight this monster, especially at this proximity? She almost felt bad thinking of him as a monster, but then stopped herself. This was what he wanted. She closed her eyes for a brief moment and took a steadying breath.

Quit worrying... she told herself.

She opened her eyes again, prepared for the worst. What would happen would happen and that was the end of it.

That about did it.

At her hissed comment, he practically growled. He tightened his hands to fists, trying to stave of his anger, or at least his thirst, enough to back up. But before he convinced himself to, a tantalizing breeze pushed Jazz's scent right into his face.

"Damn you," he muttered - ironically? - before lunging toward her, his speed a bit faster than the normal human, and his strength certainly beyond that of mortals.

He hadn't attacked humans out of anger in over a century. It had always been out of necessity, or a lack of control. But this...this was out of anger. Anger and thirst. He intended to grab her by the arms, if he was quick enough; he had still been several feet away, however; there was a decent chance that she could dodge, or retaliate in time.

The shock had to have registered on Jazz's face. Her eyes finally went wide and as she tried to recover, she was a little late. She had begun to move out of the way so that he would smack into the alley wall, but due to her hesitation and lost time, she felt his hands grip her arms like a vice. She winced and cried out at the strength with which he held her. She struggled as hard as she could, thrashing to escape.

"Let go of me!!" she demanded, terror only slightly beginning to creep into her voice, but most of it outrage. "Let go of me, dammit!!"

Her hair flew everywhere as she jerked this way and that, trying to aim kicks at him when she could.

Seth held her with a vice-like grip, all but slamming her into the alley-wall. Nothing but anger and thirst shown in his eyes now; the sadness from before was nearly gone, replaced to these two new emotions.

He could hear the terror in her voice, however slight it may have been. It gave him but a moment's pause. His face was unnaturally close to hers, and his lip was curled up so that she could see the two fangs protruding from his mouth, now.

A small voice somewhere in his head told him to stop; that he was only proving her point. The voice wasn't loud enough, though..

"I'd rather not; it has been so long since I tasted human blood," he told her in a harsh whisper, almost molkingly. "What sort of hunter are you? You didn't even get close." He sounded almost disappointed; perhaps he'd wanted to die? But not enough to do so by his own hand.

All this while he held her fast, though a grunt escaped as she kicked him between the legs. It didn't cause him to let go though, but only tighten his grip further, almost painfully.

Angrily, she bit his hand without thinking, resorting to basic instinct. It had worked when she was younger and used to brawl with her older brothers before... No, no time to think of that. She jerked her head this way and that as she attempted to bite through his flesh. Snarling noises were coming from her in her animalistic terror and rage.

When she bit his hand, he released her arm instinctively, though he still held on with his other hand. He didn't bother with anymore talking; it was becoming too much to concentrate on. Instead, he slammed her backward into the alley wall again, hoping that that would cause her to release his hand, as well. Then he moved his mouth to her tender neck, trying to hold her still long enough to sink his fangs into her deliciously soft flesh. >_>

{Hahaha.}

Jazz blushed and stopped in instinct from the intimate gesture. Feeling his lips on her neck, she was confused at first, almost having forgotten what held her and what they did. She attempted to struggle harder, not able to believe this was happening to her. She bit at his arm and shoulder, hoping he might have the same reaction as with his hand.

No, no, no! she thought frantically.

Would this really be how she died? Really? Her heart spiked at the thought.

By this time, Seth was beyond paying attention to whatever pain she caused. Unless she stabbed him, or shot him or something of that caliber, she had no hope. Without another moment to spare, he bit into her neck, his fangs sinking deep into her flesh.

Crimson blood entered his mouth, and he almost groaned aloud with pleasure; it had been far, far too long since he had last had human blood.. He put a hand on the other side of her neck, pressing her neck deeper into his fangs. He had to remember that he wasn't going to kill her, though...

She felt the sharp stab of fangs plunging into her neck. Jazz cried out in pain. Her pulse spiked, sending blood in a rush to him, no doubt. At first she was not only in agony, but disgusted, both with what was happening and herself. How? Why? This couldn't be happening! Not to her! Not to her!!!

And then...

The pain was gone. She had studied this, the sudden feeling of pleasure that some people stated was better than sex. She had a theory that it was a sort of drug secreted by the fangs of vampires, but she had never gotten to prove it... and now... she didn't care. She tried, she really did, to hold onto who she was, what was really happening, why she shouldn't allow this... but she just couldn't.

Her eyes shut and she gasped suddenly. Her body went limp and she relaxed utterly, a smile just barely on her lips.

"Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous."

--Mary Shelley in "Frankenstein."
