MKHOUSTON : Project Houston

A mutant/superhero RP

A sign read "Welcome to Gibson Hill" on the side of a lonely stretch of two land blacktop, stark white against the autumn brown and vast fields of irrigated soil with the stubs of recently harvested corn. A red barn stood atop a low hill, a dusty white pick-up sitting in it's shadow and a black Town Car thundered across the blacktop and onward to civilization.

"So what is Project Houston, anyway?" The passenger was a man in his 60's, grey hair clipped to nothing more than stubble and a thick moustache on his lip, he smoked a Marlboro and his tie was loose at his throat.

"It's the artificial creation of mutants, ones that we can use for our own purposes." The other man was wearing a suit, they both looked like they'd bought the most drab and understated suits they could find, so much so that it made them stand out in a crowd as being too average.

The old man in the passenger seat looked out the window as a tractor hauled out onto the road, dragging a big metal frame that was all chipped paint and chains that dragged along the ground, kicking up dust and the driver swore under his breath and the roar of a big V8 engine. Swung around the farmer whose ignorance he thought was intolerable, muttered something about killing him and then there was quiet again.

"And these artificial mutants you're making, they're just kids?" A lung full of Marlboro smoke sucked out the window, disappeared into the car's slipstream.

"Not just kids, no." The driver's face turned sincere, not watching the road. "No, now they've got the potential to be much more than that, much more than human."

"I hope you're right." The old man said, his voice full of resignation. "If you're not, and this gets out, then we're both fucked."

Gibson Hill : The Gibson Hill Academy

The sort of backwater you drive through, with mild interest, on your way to bigger and better places. Gibson hill is home to the state's under 11's swimming champion and a missile launching facility that has been abandoned since the early 70's, when the missile it was designed to fire became obsolete. Except it wasn't abandoned, rather, it was converted into a secret laboratory and used to experiment on specimens from the emergent population of Homo Superior that was just becoming widely known at the time.

The project was run by the CIA and codenamed MKHOUSTON, the product of these experiments were codenamed Houston I through X and didn't come to fruition until the early 90's, when a group of human clones were created from artificial mutant tissue designed in the abandoned missile facility. They were raised in an orphnage as children, the largest in the county, always aware of one another but never of their powers.

It wasn't until they turned sixteen that they were made aware, told what it is that they are and what they were to become, only one disagreed and they never saw him again. They attended The Gibson Hill Academy, a prestigious boarding school on a vast estate outside of the town, they found a suicide note in his dorm room the day after he disappeared.

The Threat : Other Mutants

The purpose of the children was to produce a brand of mutants that would be soldiers in the fight to enforce strict regulations on mutants, the sort of legislation that would make them easier to control, the kind that would make revolution against the established government impossible. They are being trained in the laboratory complex, being monitored closely and they are being psychologically asessed to gauge their suitability for use as weapons.

The Players : MKHOUSTON

The players are the subjects of Project Houston, mutant teenagers who have been aware of their powers for at least a year. Some longer, but none less than that. Students at The Gibson Hill Academy, raised in an orphnage not too far out of town, living as independently as possible in the academy's dormitories on a generous stipend courtesy of the US government.

A year has passed since they "officially" learned about what they are.

Their powers are great, but they are also new to them, not entirely refined.

Name: Joyce-Anna Thomas

Codename: Houston IV

Gender: Female

Appearance: Pale-limbed and slight, like she hasn't seen much of the outdoors; Joyce-Anna's face is gentle, heart-shaped with round, clear gray eyes and a rosy mouth. Her hair is long and wavey, dark brown. Her hands are slim, and always cold.

Personality: Joyce-Anna is not a trouble maker; if there are rules, she will follow them. She does not question her elders or the life that's been laid out for her, only wanting approval in her tasks. She's careful and oddly sweet with the other kids.

Powers: Joyce-Anna can control all things electrical. With effort, she is learning how to transform things like watches, computers, game stations into metal creatures, robots.

Bio: Joyce-Anna has lived her entire life in the orphange provided by MKHOUSTON. The only family she has would be her pseudo-siblings of the same experiment. Other than that, than growing up year to year and having her powers finally revealed to her, Joyce-Anna has no true past.

Name: Kyoshiro (Kyo) Nakamura

Codename: Houston VII

Gender: Male

Appearance: Of average height and build with messy, dyed red hair and dark eyes. Sharp facial features and a somewhat squared shaped face. Complexion is faintly tanned and rather clear.

Personality: A fiery, energetic, and determined individual. It takes several trips to hell and back to put a damper on his mood. His temper is easily engaged but is put to ease just as easily. Kyo has a strong loyalty to anyone he trusts, especially the group of orphans that have stood beside him his entire life.

Powers: Pyrokinetic

Bio: Memories of home are nothing more than the orphanage he grew up in, and the people he spent his time with. His idea of a family is a rough concept contrived of his companions at the academy. Once his powers were introduced to him, he was suddenly thrilled by the idea of being able to ignite objects with just a simple thought. However, he also fears losing control of his ability.
