Rocky's mom - who let these people in on our thread?

Geordieate (too many vowels  ) I can understand you putting it off. I think I would have as well for the same reason. I was not seeing Clay in concert but I was nervous about how I might feel after reading it. Turns out I was nervous for nothing - love the guy even more.

Weird how he is so much more affected by Vernon's indifference than by Rays and Fayes abuse. Guess to a kid bad attention is better than no attention - fortunately I would not know.

QUOTE
watch the tape of Leno and the "car thief" story
I did. I cringed. Not the same at all now is it? And he was worried "his mom would get mad" for him telling it. Well not worried but he did say that. Holy Crap.

QUOTE
I really got tired of reading her little pearls of wisdom in this book
Gotta agree there. Mamma ain't always right.

QUOTE
I even think she was abusive herself...
I keep going back to how could she get in that car. It was the one time where she clearly knew about the emotional abuse and participated in it. That and staying married to a man who admitted he couldn't love her child. I can't help but wondering if Clay didn't realize how bad she would come across and maybe left some info out that would have showed her in a bit of a better light - some explanation for her allowing some of these things. I think I am hoping this for his sake more than thinking it so.

QUOTE
I wish he would be interviewed again about the book.
I would love this but I'm guessing since it hasn't happened yet, its not going to happen. Perhaps thats why he had so many things happening at once - so interviewers would not concentrate on the book.

QUOTE
I think Clay has a long way to go in understanding that people have different beliefs and perspectives on this issue. There is not one right way. He does admit he needs to improve in this area
I think he is quite open minded given it seems he was surrounded pretty much by people of the same of very similar faith. Posters from the area have indicated it is very much a Christian area. I don't think it will be long before he has much broader view of things now that he is getting exposure to it. And he did leave his church, although temporarily, which shows he is questionning and not accepting blindly.

QUOTE
But considering some of the religious fanatics I have encountered on other Boards, some people never learn tolerance-ever.
Ain't that the truth. Kinda why we're here.

QUOTE
I love this guy and want to tuck him in and tell him it will be okay - okay, out of the "mom" mode
Wives and girlfriends can do this to you know. :D

Sorry for lumping all the quotes together but I ca't figure out how you guys separate them so nicely like that  The "car thief story" has me wondering what else he's being quiet about, namely his fear of water.I've seen a picture or two (and he says somthing in the book) of him playing at the beach when he was a lttle boy,so it doesn't seem to me that he always had that fear.My Dad was extremely afraid of water also, and it his case it was because his older brothers (he came from a family of 17 ,just like Clays grandmother) and their friends tormented him by holding his head under water when they went swimming...with all the abuse from the other kids,I wonder if it could have been something similar?I doubt he will be further interviewed about the book also, partly because I believe he said on The Early Show that Jeff was upset with him for what he had written and he probably doesn't want to cause any problems with him.I'd forgotten to mention how touched I was by Clay's description of the Moravian Church. My Grandparents and Great-Grandparents were Moravian and even though I live right outside of Bethlehem,Pa (a major Moravian community) I'm ashamed to say that Clay knows much more about the church than I do.As far as Faye goes,I hope there were some mitigating factors he didn't talk about.I wonder why Allison Glocke didn't tell him that his mom wasn't going to look so good after the book came out?But then again, not every one has changed their opinion of her.I read that at the Raleigh book-signing she was talking to all the fans waiting in line and autographing their copies of LTS for them.I wanted to be there so badly ,just so I could tell her"no thanks,I'll wait for Clay to sign mine...he's someone I admire and respect, not you"

I'd love to see video of that! :P I saw her at the GMA concert in July, also signing autographs like a celebrity. I was totally not interested in her then, it seemed so strange, but now?--no way.

Besides his saying that Jeff didn't like what he said about Ray in the book, Clay also had to backtrack on what he said about Michael Bubel being kept home, away from the public. So many people do not come off well in this book--Ray, his aunt Mary Helen, Faye...I wonder if he got some feedback.

What I find interesting is that he did explain that the Michael Buble section left a false impression but he has yet to say anything about the book leaving a false impression of his mother - at least I haven't heard anything to that effect. Hmmmm.
