Ah, characters... the backbones of this whole roleplay. If we didn't have characters, we wouldn't have a roleplay! But of course, they require rules. Sorry!

1. You may only have 15 characters on an account. If you wish to get another character, you can kill an existing character off, or you can ask a moderator for permission for another account. Anyone found to be using more than one account without permission will get the extra account banned and the main account warned.

2. Your character MUST be an animal which is listed as an Available Species. These are (at present) mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, lizards, frogs, toads, and stray cats and dogs. You may design them however you like, the colours must be realistic, they must not use magic and they must not have wings. Albinos are allowed, but require special permission from a moderator to play. You must ask a moderator if you wish to play a limited species.

3. ALL characters MUST have an approved profile posted in the "Approved Characters" board. Do not post until your profile has been accepted by an administrator. We will post saying it has been accepted.

4. NO 'Mary Sue' or 'Gary Stu' characters (i.e. "perfect" characters with no flaws and a dark past) will be accepted. We are looking for originality. All sues will be roasted alive by Kattius. What is a Mary Sue/Gary Stu? Here's a bit on the subject from Wikipedia...

QUOTE
Mary Sue (sometimes shortened simply to Sue) is a pejorative term for a fictional character who is portrayed in an overly idealized way and lacks noteworthy flaws, or has unreasonably romanticized flaws. Characters labeled Mary Sues, as well as the stories they appear in, are generally seen as wish-fulfillment fantasies of the author. Mary Sue may be used to describe a character of any gender, but male Mary Sues may also be called "Marty Stus," "Gary Stus," or "Gary Sues".

Typically, characters most commonly labeled as "Mary Sues" are set apart from others in the story by their unique and exceptional skills and traits. Mary Sues are extremely physically attractive, and their appearance may include an unusual "natural" hair or eye color. (Eyes may also be depicted changing colors according to time, place, emotion, or other causes.). Exotic names are not an unusual trait. They may be a race which is uncommon or unknown in the story's setting, or even a hybrid of two or more species. They may have unusual pets or magical possessions, often simply to increase their perceived specialness compared to the other characters.

Tragic backgrounds are also common among Mary Sues, which frequently include family abuse or neglect, or, in fan fiction, relations to major canon characters through blood or strangely contrived family ties. Mary-Sues tend to have a trajic past to make the reader feel sorry for them so they will like them, though it doesn't work for most people who can see past that or hear all these trajic things in the media to the point it no longer pulls on their heartstrings.

While female characters seen as Mary Sues are often bright and cheerful no matter what their past has dealt them, characters seen as Gary Stus/Marty Sams tend to be brooding and frequently violent. They often reject authority, ignoring the consequences of their rebellious or aggressive actions, and usually are proven to have had the right instincts or intentions all along. This pattern of behavior is particularly noticeable in fandoms set in a scholastic or militaristic setting or organization, in which there is at least one highly visible authority figure to rebel against.

Keep to these rules for your characters and you'll be okay.
