I love, love, love Jay. He's totally fab. Anyone who can get busted by a burly mermaid and come out joking, is great in my book.
Not so in love with his girlfriend, though. With all the other Sigots, I totally loved them. I hope that Tona has a big part in the next book so that I can learn to love her. Why can Tracy travel but Jay can't? If Tracy is in the Land, shouldn't Jay be able to travel back to see the rents? (parents) P.S. What's up with William and Sasha??? I must know! I love them. |

I agree with AZPhoenix if Tracy can travel back and forth then Jay should just get to switch with her or something so he can occasionally go see his parents. Also, I now feel really bad for Ben because he now won't have that male protector in the house to save him from all the women.

I did not think Jay would stay in the land because of his parents dependence on him. Then I thought oh, the other protectors must be watching out for them. Is that what happend.
I do like his sigot. I like that she is cute and not drop dead gorgeous. Makes her more real. Not all of us are drop dead gorgeous. |

I really enjoyed Jay as a character. Besides Sarat, Jay is my other favorite Protector. I think what helped him in the long run was the fact that in the World he had to grow up fast. He started paying his own parent's bills at what, age 11? Jay growing up fast helped him think more along the lines of an older mature adult and have the logic that comes with. He was very good at "working" with the law to help save his parents from financial struggles. I liked that he was quick witted and a fast thinker. Along with the immense patience Jay had, I think those are good qualities for a wizard to have as well.
On his decision to stay in the Land... I am mixed. I don't like the fact that he stayed for the reasons that his whole life was in the World. Jay left behind his parents whom he loved and adored and was extremely close to. He left behind his friends which I'm sure he grew up with some of them. I don't know I guess having experienced leaving behind everyone and everything makes me think of how much I personally miss my "past". However, I do like the fact that Jay stayed in the Land. I think he was ready for a new future. I believe that Jay didn't want to spend the rest of his life taking care of his parents when he had barely taken care of himself in the first place; going back to helping financially at age 11. He was barely making enough money for one or two college classes. And while he felt happy, I don't think he felt inner happiness; happiness for himself and who he was. It was bad that Jay stayed for his past life, yet it was good that he stayed because he needed to start a new and refreshing one. |

I have some thoughts on this, but I'd love to hear what other people think before I dive in! Keep it coming!

I really like that Jay stayed. It's really hard to make a seemingly slefish decision like that. (I say selfish because he did knowingly leave people behind who loved him and wanted to be in his life.) But when you've taken care of yourself and others for so long I think that you deserve to make a decision that is based soley on you and not everyone else. His decision to stay really spoke to me and I admire it.
