Of all the Square games, final fantasy is one of my least favorite series, because it lacks gameplay.

Mainly that's because there are two FF teams, and one used to mak ethe odd numbers while the other worked on the even numbers. They've shaken that up and brought in other people for 12, so i'm hoping it's good.

The first Final Fantasy had a class system in it. They also produced the Secret of Mana that I love, which featured AI teammates and on the fly multiplayer. Vagrant Story was also cool. Not to mention Chrono Trigger. Then there's Final Fantasy Tactics.

Some of that came together with FF X-2, which has a nice class change system. Hopefully it's also going to come together well in FF XII as well.

Final Fantasy HAS to be one of my favorite series. But my all time favorite RPG has to be Chrono Cross. Not just because it was the first RPG i beat... tongue.gif But it had an awesome cast of characters, like over 20. Unique characters, from a alien, to a dog, to a vegetable...It was just awesome in everyway. AND THE STORY. Way to long to explain and very confusing. But it was great.

My first RPG was on the NES. . . I know I played more than the first Zelda, but the other games slip my mind. I would say my first RPG was on the Atari, but I don't think my old 2600 has anything that counts there.

My Favorite RPGs

Secret of Mana
Vagrant Story
Zelda: Link to the Past
Final Fantasy 7
Star Ocean 2
Seiken Denetsu 3
Legend of Mana
Final Fantasy Tactics
Breath of Fire III
Chrono Trigger

. . .and some others that slip my mind because I've forgotten the titles.

I can't underline how great the multiplayer in Secret of Mana was.. . but I can illustrate it. You could do this for instance.

"Hey, wanna come help me with the Tiger Boss?"
"What do I do?"
"Just press start on controller 2, like when you challenge me in Street fighter."
"Hey, I got the short little thing"
"Oh, just hit select and switch characters, leave the sprite to me so I can cast magic with the command menu."
*later* "Okay, I gotta go do homework, so uhm, we need to find a save point."
"Nah, just hit start and the AI'll take back over, I'm not gonna quit for a while."

That freaking easy. The game paused the action just long enough to hit the ring menus, typically for item usage or casting a spell. You could tell the AI to be aggressive or stay back, and pick their weapon (like a nice longrange boomerang), and using their spells was just as easy.

The only low spot in the system was if you were doing an eight level weapon supercharge to unleash an awesome attack on someone, hitting the magic menu would break the charge. That's why having a second player for boss fights was nice. Not a big deal though since you could just tough it out until after the big charge attack.
