A Break..., Sam Gage

[Hayden Teague]

Hayden didn't even try to stop Samantha when she lashed out at Caleb. Sam did have a point. Troy was a bad guy, more than any of them had guessed. The look on Caleb's face showed Hayden that he had no idea what they were talking about.

She watched Caleb closely as he started talking about Troy and how well he knew him. He obviously didn't know him as well as he thought he did. Hayden reached out and grabbed his arm when he asked if Troy had done something to either of them. "He didn't do anything to us," she said, trying to be heard over the music, but not be heard by anyone else. She didn't like Troy, but she didn't want to announce to the whole room that the guy that everybody knew was Caleb's best friend had raped Caleb's own sister.

Hayden rose up on her tip-toes and pulled Caleb down a bit so she could speak in his ear. "He raped Narissa, Caleb. He broke into her apartment when she and Sam were out and he raped her. He was arrested at the party and has been in jail ever since."

Hayden pulled back and looked at Caleb. She liked him well enough, and she didn't want anything bad to happen to him, even though she knew he had a tendency to bring bad things upon himself. Still, she did like him and wanted to keep him out of it as much as possible. "I thought you already knew all of that," she said as she looked up at him.

[Samantha Gage]

Sam looked at Caleb who sincerely looked like he had no clue what his friend was really like. Sam looked at Hayden as she began to speak and then whispered it to him about what his friend had done. Although Sam would not have been so nice about dropping the bomb she still was not sure about Caleb and she knew one thing for sure and that was Hayden's brother did not like Caleb and Dean maybe uptight for one thing, but he was usually dead on for not liking someone even if it is over a guy hitting on Hayden.

[Caleb Chasez]

Caleb was in a massive confusion and yet the moment that Hayden had whispered into his ear he felt his heart and legs feel like they were going to give out. No! They had to be wrong Troy would never do that to Narissa...he wasn't that kind of guy, but Hayden would know right it was her brothers that were looking over Narissa...and now maybe he understand why she had gotten the police involved all those rumors that something had happened to his sister back home...they were true and yet he took Troy's side in thinking she was just trying to destroy the team...Caleb's face was probably white at this moment and he didn't even try to protest anymore with her because all the pieces of the last couple months were coming together...it all made sense.

Oh my god, Narissa where was she is this why she had took off not just because of the wedding but to get away from Troy. Caleb needed to sit down he turned away from the two girls and went to an empty table he sat himself down and leaned over placing his elbows on his knees and placing his head into his hands. Caleb was in a distraught moment how could he let this happen. It was his fault...he invited Troy here and now...Caleb knew what he would have to do, but with Troy being in a jail cell he was not sure how he would do it. Caleb wanted to kill him and ask him why? Gosh! So many emotions were flooding Caleb's body that it almost felt like an overload.

[Shephard Dixon]

Shep felt like he was losing his mind as he drove the streets looking for Samantha's car and thinking about Dean lying in that hospital bed. Sure, Dean was doing better in that he was breathing on his own finally, but other than that, there had been no change. No signs of waking up, no response to anything. Shep had been through a heart attack with Dean before, but this one was worse. Much worse. Dean had been awake fairly quickly the last time, but this time... Shep knew that the longer Dean stayed out of it, the worse his chances were of recovering.

Shep ran his hand through his hair for about the twentieth time as he continued to search the streets, stopping to check the license plate or any car that even closely resembled Sam's car.

Shep drove by the darkened cafe with the night club upstairs and he thought for a minute his heart would stop. Was that really it? Without even looking at any other traffic, Shep spun his car around in a U-turn that did have at least two other cars laying on their horns. This was the problem with being in a civilian car instead of his old sheriff's cruiser!

Still, Shep pulled in behind the car, checked the plate, and heaved a sigh of relief. Finally. He was going to kill that girl when he got his hands on her! He killed the engine, not really noticing nor caring that he was double parked. He headed for the door, showing the bouncer at the door his police badge and walking right on in. He stopped just inside and scanned the room for Hayden or Samantha.

It didn't take long for Shep to find Sam and Hayden. He was a bit surprised to see Hayden standing close to Caleb, though. He would have thought that boy would be smart enough to stay as far away from a Teague as he possibly could. Shep didn't take time to notice the look on Caleb's face as he marched up to the trio of teens.

"Dammit Hayden! I'd kill you myself right now if I thought I could get away with it!" He turned then to Sam, his worry about Dean now transforming into anger. "And you! What the hell were you thinking sneaking the two of you out of the house?!"

Shep spun back around to Hayden and at the moment, he honestly didn't care about being gentle with her feelings. "You're brother is dying, Hayden. Dean had another heart attack. You and Sam are coming with me to the hospital. Now!" Shep looked at Caleb and once again felt the urge to strangle this kid. He knew that Caleb was friends with Troy - who'd hurt and raped Narissa - and that fact alone made Caleb guilty by association. It was bad enough that Shep had caught Caleb in the shower with Hayden, but now he was here with her again while her brother laying dying in the hospital.

"Ya know what, Caleb? Your ass is going, too. It's the hospital with us or jail - just because I can!"

Hayden saw the way Caleb reacted when she told him about Troy. He really hadn't know what his friend had done. Hayden felt a pull at her heartstrings at seeing the look on his face. Even though she'd been perfectly willing to sleep with him not so very long ago, Hayden really didn't think of Caleb like that. Her heart belonged to someone else. But that didn't mean that she didn't like Caleb. In another world under different circumstances, she could easily see herself crushing on him, maybe even dating him, but not now, not like this. Still, she did see the two of them becoming friends, if he'd let her, and she didn't want to see any of her friends in pain.

When Caleb moved away from her and sat down, Hayden stayed back for a second, but when she saw Caleb lean forward and put his head in his hands, she felt her heart break for him. She finally stepped forward to where he sat. She squatted down in front of him, wrapping her hands around his wrists, but not trying to pull his hands away. "Caleb, I'm sorry! I thought you knew all that. Are you okay? What can I...?"

Her words were interrupted by the loud voice that just about ripped her head off. Her head spun around and when she saw Shep, her stomach sank. Then those words... "You're brother is dying, Hayden." After that, Hayden heard very little else that was said. Her blood pumped through her so loudly that it drowned out the rest of the sounds in the room. What had she done?

[Caleb Chasez]

Caleb closed his eyes as his throat felt close up and dry. A wave of sickness flooded over him how could this really be happening. How could his best friend do this to his sister? Was he contradicting himself right now? He had came here to destroy her life like he thought she had destroyed his, and yet now he was beginning to question everything. Things were not as they seemed to be.

Caleb pressed his lips together and was being pulled from his thoughts after hearing Hayden's voice. Yet, then a voice brought him back completely and he lifted his head up up and looked at Officer Dixon. Caleb's face had open written emotions all over them. Caleb looked at Hayden after hearing the news of Dean's condition. Caleb watched her emotions swarm over her now he softly spoke, "Hayden..."

He had half expected them to just leave him there, but Shep surprised him and gave him a choice which was obivious which he would opt for even if he didn't want to go to either. Yet, he knew if he went to jail maybe he would see Troy and be able to lay into him, but the truth was if he started Caleb didn't know if he could bring himself to stop. Caleb pressed his lips together and slowly stood up he looked at Shep and stated, "Guess I'm going with you then."

Shep realized all too late that perhaps he'd said the wrong thing. Or, at the very least, that he'd said it in the wrong way. He knew that Hayden had no idea what had happened to Dean, and in his own anger and frustration, Shep had just blurted it out like it was her fault that Dean was in the condition in which he was in. The truth of the matter was, no one was to blame for Dean's condition except Dean himself. He knew he was pushing himself too hard, but that didn't stop him from running around like a crazy man.

The minute that Shep saw the look on Hayden's face, he immediately felt contrite. He shouldn't have blurted it out that way, especially with her being pregnant. If anything happened to her because of what he'd just said, he knew that Dean would kick his ass the second that he could.

Shep reached out to Hayden, taking her by the arm to support her and lead her out of the club. "Samantha, Caleb, you two come with me. Sam, I'll make sure your car gets taken care of." Shep wasn't about to tell her that the car wasn't going back to the safe house - not after this little stunt, anyway. He would see that car in the police impound lot before he'd see it where Sam could access it again.

Shep led the three teens out of the club and over to his waiting car. He'd managed to avoid getting a ticket for his parking job, thank goodness, and he held the car door open while Hayden sat down in the front seat and Caleb and Sam crawled in the back.

The four of them sat in silence as they drove to the hospital. Shep was a bit worried about Hayden now, unsure of how her body was going to react to the stress of what was happening, but he knew they'd be in the best possible place if something were to happen. Shep took a deep breath and held it as they all walked inside the hospital and headed for Dean's room.
