THINKING OF JOINING?
If you don't have the time for this site, don't join. Simple as that. If your time is limited,
DO NOT take a major canon or subplot character.
By joining, you are committing to being an active, productive member. ALL members
should be actively roleplaying - that means participating in THREADS, not just games and
plot boards.
Yes, we're canon only. The list has well over a hundred characters, though, so this shouldn't
be a problem. Periodically we will be adding canons as the existing list fills up.
Playbys should be models only. Sorry if this prevents you from using your favorite face
claim, but we find that models are less recognizable and don't come with stigmas attached
(i.e. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will forever just be Bella and Edward). If you
don't know any models to use, ask around on the cBox for help.
If you aren't literate, you won't be accepted. End of story. This site is literate/advanced.
Posts should have four decent-sized paragraphs at minimum.
IN THE PROCESS OF JOINING?
Register with first, middle, and last all in caps. If you make a mistake with the username,
fear not. An admin will switch your username once you've been accepted. If your applying
or competing for a character whose username is already taken, just put some punctuation
at the end of the username.
NO UNFINISHED APPLICATIONS are allowed to be posted and will be
DELETED, NO EXCUSES.
Remember this is a Harry Potter site. We deal with witches and wizards. This is not Twilight,
Star Trek, or Lord of the Rings. That means no elves, vulcans, hobbits, werewolves,
metamorphmagii, sparkling vampires, fire gods, or beings from the underworld. The only
vampires, werewolves, and metamorphmagii allowed are those specified as such on the
canon list. Save your time and don't even bother asking an admin to be an exception to
this rule.
IF YOU WISH TO COMPETE FOR A CHARACTER, YOU ONLY
HAVE UP UNTIL THE DATE OF THE FIRST RESERVATION TO
SUBIT YOUR APPLICATION. FOR EXAMPLE, IF I RESERVED
MINERVA PISTOL GREYBACK UNTIL 10/25, IF SOMEONE ELSE
WANTED TO RESERVE HER, EVEN IF THEY RESERVED LATER,
THEY WOULD WILL ONLY HAVE UNTIL THE 25TH. WE'RE DOING
THIS FOR TWO REASONS-- THE FIRST, QUITE SIMPLY, IS
BECAUSE WE'RE SICK OF WAITING FOR APPS TO BE FINISHED.
THE SECOND IS BECAUSE WE ARE HOPING THIS WILL
DISCOURAGE THREE OR FOUR WAY COMPETITIONS. WE'D
RATHER HAVE TWO OR THREE MEMBERS NEW MEMBERS ON
THE BOARD THAN ONE, OBVIOUSLY.
IF YOU WISH TO EXTEND A RESERVATION
FOR A CHARACTER, YOU MUST TELL
AN ADMIN OR MODERATOR BEFORE YOUR RESERVATION RUNS
OUT. HOWEVER, WE WILL ONLY EXTEND YOUR RESERVATION
ONCE. IF YOUR RESERVATION RUNS OUT, YOU MAY
RE-RESERVE A CHARACTER AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE,
BUT THIS DOESNT GIVE THE STAFF A GOOD IMPRESSION. SO.
DONT DO IT ALL THE TIME.
IF YOU SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND WE ASK YOU TO FIX IT,
YOU HAVE THREE DAYS, UNTIL WE DENY IT. IF YOU NEED MORE
THAN THREE DAYS TO FIX YOUR APPLICATION, THEN TALK
TO A STAFF MEMBER, BUT CHANCES ARE WE'LL TELL YOU YOU
HAVE TO GET IT DONE IN THE THREE DAYS. UNLESS LIKE, YOUR
GRANDMA DIES. THEN YOU CAN HAVE LONGER. MAYBE.
When writing your character's history, remember: not everyone was beat and raped by
their alcoholic step fathers when they were children. In fact, most people probably had
a *gasp* normal childhood. Imagine that!
If you even think about plagiarizing, we will not only kick you in the ovaries. You will be banned.
YOU JOINED! ... NOW WHAT?
There is no set character limit because it varies from person to person. Don't bite off more
than you can chew. It's better to have one or two well-defined characters than four generic,
under-utilized characters. Know your limits and resist the urge to serial-create characters.
Girls are wonderful, but we always have too many of them. If your first character is female,
your second MUST be a male.
If your account is inactive for more than two weeks without prior warning in the absences
board it will be deleted. Every once in a blue moon we do activity checks, but more often
than not we will just delete inactive accounts. If you would like to reclaim a character deleted
for inactivity, simply PM an admin to be reinstated - but don't expect us to do that more
than once.
NO GODMODING. Godmoding is playing someone else's character in your post or predeciding
another character's actions. Unless the person your rping with consents, it is never
allowed! This is especially important during fights/duels. For example, if your character is
named Sally and you are rping with Bob, you cannot say "Sally brutally stabbed Bob,
laughing as the blood spilled from his chest." You can, however, say "Sally swung her knife
in Bob's direction, aiming for his chest." It's up for the person playing Bob to decide whether
or not they want him to get stabbed.
PERFECT PEOPLE ARE LAME. THEY ARE BORING AND THEY WILL HAVE NO FRIENDS.
FLAWS ARE WHAT GIVES A CHARACTER SUBSTANCE - EMBRACE THEM.
(FYI, BEING TOO KIND IS NOT A FLAW)
Yes, this is a site about witches and wizards, but still, let's keep things as realistic as possible,
people. No suicides, pregnancies, rapes, or murders unless they're in a subplot.
CAUTION is a great site, but use discretion when using their post templates. It looks stupid
when you have to have twenty lines of lyrics and ten lines of credits and assorted crap before
and after every single post. If you're putting an image in your post, you better not stretch the
board, or else the image will be removed. Also, avoid tacking on pointless OOC comments on
the end of posts apologizing for the shortness or crappiness of a post.
The site is rated R. Anything goes, just don't get too graphic. No one wants to read that.
Respect your fellow members. Be gentle with the staff. Don't argue in the cBox. ETC, ETC.
