I don't forsee recording via my PC anytime soon....I have a TEAC A-3440 reel/reel
in almost mint condition ....nonetheless, I am very interested i. I don't know much about what is available...I have checked out a few sites...but the technology I was viewing seems out of my price range at the moment.

LOL. I've basically just tried to use a microphone to try and record stuff. Not only are the accustics bad, but the quality of the mic is horrible too. So, anyone have suggestions as to what I should try (And is cheap)?

The microphone is very important....no matter what you are recording onto...the mic is everything...you can have excellent recording equipment and it will sound like crap unless you have a quality mic...

As joc said you need a good mic. A mic that you would use at a gig is not suitable as a studio mic either. I use a Shure SM57 as it is a good all rounder. Studio and Live. Expect to pay at least $150 AUD to pick one of these up second hand.

In addition to the Shure SM57 or SM58, make sure you get a 'low' impedence cord. It makes a great deal of difference. If you don't have a low impedence jack, go to Radio Shack and purchase a Low Impedence Adapter.

Just a note........my drummer friend (professional) tells me the Shure 57 is really more of an instrument mic and the Shure 58 is generally used for vocals.

TO,

While I love my analog Teac, I am interested in the whole PC recording aspect. Is there a particular program of software that you could recommend?

Sorry I have not been on for a while guys.
Joc, In the past I have used Logic Audio Platinum and it has served me well. It is however very expensive to buy. Right now I am using Adobe Audition. It is a lot cheaper to buy and I am impressed with the user freindly layout of this software. I am currently recording our new music with this software. I have shelved Logic Audio because the company who produced it (Emagic) was bought out by Apple and they are no longer udating or writing new versions for PC. I have used Cubase before but found it not real friendly for people who were unfamiliar with computer recording.
My choice would definately be Adobe audition joc. It is easy to get your head around, has plenty of easy to access and use tools, and the layout makes the whole recording and mastering process a breeze. You can get a trial version of Adobe Audition HERE. Or if you like PM me and I can help you with more... wink2.gif .

Well, I haven't really had time to do much with the program thus far... wallbash.gif

But I have tried to take what is on my Teac and transfer it to the program, track for track....the problem I am running into is that it is dang near impossible to get the tracks in sync. Is there an easy way to synchronize tracks that I haven't found yet?

Durty gurl,

I record using Pro Acid Dj. I really don't dig it too much, but it's better then nothing. I hate using pre-made samples to make songs. I'd rather record live shit and sample that. Feels more original. Anyway..

mmm, I have real 808 and 909 samples... ohmy.gif

Those samples that come with certain programs are beyond lame. Not that I do hip hop stuff, but they are nice to have if I'm in a mood.

I thank the males from downtown for allowing me to sample that...not that they will ever read this. but yanno, I dunno - ignore me.
