Well I'm off onto my new project. its tentative title is :
The Legend of Zelda : The Shatter Mask

Its basically a continuation of the classic Majora's Mask. Its quickly becoming one of the most complex engines I've ever written, and the graphics are hard to come by. Lots of (poorly made) custom sprites.

I'm desperate for sprite sheets for :
skull kid
Iron knuckle
fierce deity
zoras

if anyone has those or wants to make them in the 'rpgmaker' style that would be a life saver.

But yes, its looking good so far, I cant wait to release it.

After this, I think im going to make a brand new original vector animated game.
Then who knows, Maybe ill start on a 3D MMO after my 3D modeling class =P

Everyone loves a Zelda flash. Only place were Link talks and he always ends up a player in some way.

So how far along are we? What's it about? And all that jazz

its hard for me to grasp how far along I am in the progress of things;
its a pretty massive project.
lemme semi-estimate some numbers

engine : 62%
character animations : 44%
npcs : 7%
enemies : 2% >.0 ill work on that soon I swear
main plot (written) : 89% theres one massive hole I cant decide on how to fill
sub plots/character plots : 23%

Due to its size, I think im going to make it a DA exclusive. they allow 30 megs per file while newgrounds only allows 10. I might post the prologue up on NG and then have it link over to DA.

as far as whats in it...

it starts off a year later with the Skull kid heading back home to the lost woods. He sees his old forest 'friends' and its not exactly a warm welcome. some *spoilers* happen and he ends up fleeing out of the forest. on his way he finds the rather unhuman traveling mask salesman, the one that holds the purified majora’s mask. He's (or someone with him) is fighting a demon. they end up finishing the battle by sealing it in the mask. this ends up knocking out the salesman which leaves him wide open for vultures. The skull kid remembers the last time he felt this angry and betrayed so he snatches the mask and heads back to termina.

Back in termina, its the day before the festival of time. Princess zelda and link travel there to attend the festival. Zelda was curious after she heard that theres another realm with duplicate people attached to their own world. later on link has to disarm everything for *spoiler* reasons and he leaves the weapons / masks unattended in the next room. The skull kid shows up with his new demonic powers and ends up shattering all of link's weapons except for the fierce diety mask (will of the demon) and the ocarina (will of the skull kid). He enters the room with Zelda and link. Zelda becomes encased in a unbreakable crystal but left in place.

Link ends up chasing the skull kid up the clock tower but at the end of the road he gets massacred. no weapons means no chance haha. So in his beaten state, he ends up losing all his memories of his previous adventure in termina. The skullkid uses his power to reform the shattered moon above termina

After he awakens, he is given the mission to chase after the skull kid that fled to the forest area of the southern swamp. along the way he ends up falling into a pit. its a long ways down and there’s no way to get out because Link has no weapons (take that Zelda continuum X) )

A few days pass and the moon falls. The ground is torched and all life is killed or altered beyond recognition. During the shockwave, a massive tree gets pulled out of the ground, breaking open a root bound wall allowing link to get out.

He finds the skull kid in the forest and a new battle takes place. The battle allows link to get his ocarina back. Link ends up torching the skull kid pretty badly so he turns link into a iron knuckle. (slow but powerful).

It cuts to a scene with the goddess of hyrule / termina. Din sees the torched land and Farore sees the lifeless after math. They propose a plan to wipe the world clean to start over 3 days after the disaster. Nayru believes that the timeline can be saved. So she helps link by teaching him the song of time again. The goddess of time is on your side.

That’s pretty much the first run through. I'm still working out a few details but I'm pretty stoked about it.

Some other details :
-it will be a 6 day time line. 3 pre disaster, 3 post.
-there will be around 9 dungeons. (give or take some ideas)
-The new "shatter mask" turns link into a crystal-like being. If he takes too much damage he will shatter then reform. This mask is the central part of the plot.
- lots of new masks and some of the old favorites. every mask will be functional (no more 'use once, get a heart piece and never wear it again')
- 4 new form masks plus the old 4. (zora, goron etc)

Hm. That sounds a lot like a twist in an Astro Boy game I've heard about.

But this sounds pretty good. It's dark, like the original Majora's Mask, and a bit original at the same time.

man I'm having a hard time finding time to work on this >.0
tis going soooo slow.
The maps alone are killing me.

but on another related note, does anyone have ideas for functional new masks?
I'm avoiding the one use (useless) masks.

some new ones I have already :
- one that heals hp over time
- one that heals magic over time
- one that surrounds you in a protective fire spirit
- one that allows you to run and bash into things

the 'all night mask', 'mask of truth', and 'keaton's mask' all have a usable ability now.

I also have 3 event masks planned out that work like the romani milk bar mask (plot / area access). thats as close to useless as I'm willing to go.

So any new ideas for new masks?

Maybe a mask that will allow to jump or one that could be like a chest radar or something. Oooh, a mask that allows you to control an enemy's mind for puzzle solving.
