pokeball.gif Now that Diamond and Pearl are available in most places, I think it is about time that we have something like this set up. Chances are, most of the people reading this are able to link up wirelessly, and if not, you can still cheer on the players!

One of the problems I see with having a tournament is that I don't believe anyone other than the two participants can actually see what is going on, allowing cheaters to have a field day. So we'd need a level of trust between members. That said, I think it would be doable.

Other than that, here are a few rules I made up myself. Subject to change if I get a crowd of members wanting it as such. =P

MPW WiFi Tournament Rules

1. You must have either Diamond or Pearl, with WiFi capabilities to enter.

2. You must have a team of six Pokemon, not including the following:

Mewtwo, Mew, Wobbuffet, Lugia, Ho-oh, Wynaut, Latios, Latias, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus

And of the following, you are allowed a maximum of one:

Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Jirachi, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Regigigas, Heatran, Cresselia, Phione

3. All basic clauses will be in effect. That's Sleep, Evasion, OHKO, & Hax Item Clauses.

4. Since all WiFi battles allow you to choose Pokemon levels, all battles should be held at level 50 or 100, to allow even-footing. Battles will also be Single, not Double.

5. Specific battles will be chosen randomly, and will be posted here on a set day. Another set day, a DQ time as we like to call it, will be given, and I'd ask all results to be posted here before this time. The DQ time will be one week for each round, beginning and ending on a Saturday.

6. This before-mentioned process will repeat until we have one person left! This person will be declared the winner, and will have their name at the top of this post for all eternity! Also, they will be allowed to jump a round in future competitions.

7. If you turn out to be a no-show, not only will you not be able to receive any benefits(ie. being the candidate for the free round), but you will have to participate in a preliminary match the next time you enter the tournament. This shall include no-shows from previous rounds, with the winners moving on to Round One. Note that this will start in the 4th Tournament, not this one. Also of note is that someone that withdraws from the tournament will not be considered a no-show.

8. Now, the rules I must add, and that I hope will never have to be enforced:

If two people finish a battle with conflicting stories, BOTH will be disqualified. Furthermore, if later on the identity of the untruthful individual is found out, he or she will be banned from all future tournaments. This includes those who disconnect intentionally and lie about it.

Furthermore, if it is found out that a battler has been using hacked Pokemon, he or she will be banned from all future tournaments. This is in addition to any action the forum staff may take.

And now, for some Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get WiFi?

You will need a wireless router, and access to the Internet. So, chances are good that if you're able to view this page, you have Internet. Moreover, there is also a good chance that most of the people reading this have the router already. If not, you can pick it up at Radio Shack or Circuit City. I got mine for $30 CAN myself.

How does WiFi work anyways?

How does the WiFi work on Diamond & Pearl?

How do I enter the Tournament?

Just post a reply to a tournament thread located in the MPW Specials forum.

I changed my username. Should I mention it here?

Simply put, yes. It can get confusing if someone is trying to get in touch with someone whose name is different than what I have listed here. >_>

Are there any restrictions to my team?

Like I said before, I'm thinking it'll be pretty hard to make that many rules regarding this, so I think sticking with the 'No Ubers' is about all we can really do(and even that would be hard to enforce, in theory). However, ideas are welcome.

Why are legends & Ubers restricted/banned?

Well, all of the banned Pokemon are too powerful for serious competitive play. Likewise, while not as powerful as their Uber counterparts, the allowed legends all have strengths of their own. Therefore, no Ubers whatsoever and only one non-Uber legend per team.

The one exception is Shaymin. It is banned because it cannot be obtained legally at this moment in time. The moment it is I will move him to the list of allowed legends.

Wynaut & Wobbuffet aren't legends! Why are they banned?

Mirror Coat + Counter + Destiny Bond + Encore + Shadow Tag + Leftovers = Death. Enough Said.

Seriously, Wobbuffet is just too powerful for serious competitive play. Wobbuffet can take out entire teams with that above set. So don't use it.

Can I have more than one of the same Pokemon on my team?

Sure, go ahead. But don't blame me when your team of Gyarados comes up against a Timid Jolteon. XD

Can I PLEASE use my team of hacked Pokemon and/or Legendaries? com on, i m beggin u!!!!!!!!11111

No.

I cannot get in contact with my opponent. What do I do?

Even with the precautions I put in above, we may still get a few no-shows. If you are unable to get in contact with your opponent, just post here saying so. If not, I may assume you are both no-shows, and take both of your names off the list.

My opponent and I can't find a time to battle that is convenient for us both. What do I do?

This is mostly going to be due to time zones if it occurs. I will now guarantee that the deadline for battle results will be more than a week, allowing you to get time on the weekend. Nonetheless, if you can't get results in by the deadline, you'll still be disqualified. Though, I may consider extending it under said circumstances.

My opponent used hacks, Ubers, and/or more that one Legendary. What do I do?

If you face one of these, please report it in this thread. Furthermore, if the opponent used hacked Pokemon, you should also report it here.

Hey, how can you be in your own tournament? What if I have a problem with you as a battler?

Any questions that arise as a result of a battle that I am participating in myself will be answered in two ways:

1) If it involves something already explained in this post(ie. use of Ubers/hacks, breaking Sleep Clause, etc), then said rule will be followed.

2) If it involves something a bit more complicated than that(ie. conflicting results) then Lumine will make any decisions as I would in cases that don't involve me.

What happens if we have an odd number of participants?

First off, an odd number is a whole number that, when halved, has a 5 after the decimal place(ie. 6/2=3 ; 5/2=2.5 ; 5 is odd, 6 is not).

So, if we have an odd number of people, we'll do one of two things. The first is allowing one person to skip the round. This person will be chosen randomly, starting among those who actually had a battle in the previous round.

The second option is a round robin. This will involve everybody battling everybody else once, with those with the most wins moving on. This will only be happening in the later rounds though, when there are a small amount of people remaining.

What if my battle ends in a draw?

Although rare, it is a possibility. If this happens in your tournament battle, both you and your opponent will be moving on.

Can I have my battle on Pokemon Battle Revolution?

I don't see why not. DS or Wii, with the same Pokemon, the results will be identical. So in other words, go ahead.

What if a DS turns off in mid-battle?

If this was done intentionally by one of the battlers, the winner will be the other person. Simple enough.

What if it wasn't intentional?

I'll leave this up to the battlers. If an obvious winner was in sight, then please say so. If not, you should have a rematch.

What are Pokemon anyways?

Seriously. If you are asking that sort of question.....Go away. Now.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is where this question ought to go, so please forgive me if it's not.

I personally have a few pokemon I regularly use that I have "created" from scratch using pokesav, but they still have completely legit moves, attributes, abilities, stats, etc. Do they count as "hacked"? I mean I can't tell whether your "no hacks" rule simply bans all non-regular pokemon, or if it only pertains to illegal or impossible moves, abilities, etc. I mean there's a big gap between simply making a pokemon how you want as opposed to making a Sableye with Wonderguard...

Yeah, those would be consider hacked, because no one else has access to those kinds of pokemon. It makes it unfair.

I know it's really cutting it close time-wise for the tournament, but when you say "those" do you mean an obvious hack like WonderGurad Sableye, or do you also mean my team that I made to be fully legit. Just to specify, I made sure to use a moveset that they would have been able to obtain, and their IV's were randomized (pokesav has a function for this). So for all intents and purposes they are legitimate.

I want to know because I do have two of them in my usual team I use when I battle, but I have nearly-identical copies that I caught in-game. Basically what happened was I caught them and levelled and EV trained before I had planned my whole team and movesets, so I screwed up and they were at Lv 100, so the EV-lowering berries wouldn't help. The funny thing is, they (the real AND made ones) are the weakest on my team in most circumstances, so I guess t makes little difference either way, but I'd like to get this cleared up nonetheless... Thanks!

Hmm...doesn't the PC trick still work in D/P?
The PC trick is where you EV train a lvl 100, put it in the box, and it's stats are updated.
It's been a while since I've played any Pokemon game but I'm sure this existed in R/S/E at least.

Anyways, the problem with "legitimate" hacked Pokemon is that everyone else has to take your word on good faith, and that isn't very reliable. It's sad, but true.

I was told that the PC trick is dead... I might be completely mistaken, but from what I've heard the stats will only update now at a level up, and the PC does nothing for that... Either way I do have the two alternates that I can use, so it's not a huge problem, just a minor annoyance.

And I understand what you mean about the "it's your word" thing. But for what it's worth, I could send you the exact .pkm files that I have them in. Just so you could see what I've got, and maybe rate my team? 'Cause this will be the first competitive battling I've done in D/P; I mostly just go to battle tower and practice there, but it gets old after a while.

Anyways thanks for the response, and I'll make sure to take those two out of my team.

I saw a tiny typo in ur legendary listings. In the ones that are accepted, you have only phione and not manaphy. Is manaphy allowed? and personally, any legendary is not a true battle, and the trainer has no true battle spirit with one. blnuyasha19.gif it frustrates me much to see that people's trump cards are just legendary pokemon! Its not true pokemon trainer spirit to me...anyways, I had a few people try to sign up for your contest through communication on the Deviant Art chats, and they say their having difficulties, would you mind if I list them for them...? I understand since the tournament is in 2 hours (12:00 noon for me, EST).

Take a gander at my awesome team! No legendarys in tournaments, so when a tournament comes, you're lucky I don't have palkia or my trump card... But I'll still beat cha! hehe~
