Description
The most obvious thing about Heather Ferguson is that she's Irish. The dead giveaway: her untannable, ghost-pale complexion coupled with a mop of curly carrot-red hair. But those are features she's proud of. Heather is a little Caucasian stick -- she doesn't have curves like all the other girls. She's a tomboy. And she's a fluffy. Then again, none of this ever really bothered her except when the other girls would point it out. Of course, the other teens stopped talking to her after she figured out how to make them go away.

To put it simply: She intimidates people. And she does it with her face. Heather's expressions are not cute or inviting. They vary from arrogant smirks to cold, calculating navy-blue-eyed stares to deep, resentful scowls... But it's the stares that get most people. The girl tends to give off a creepy vibe, and... well, you know how that goes. You know you don't like it when the weirdo in class gives you special attention, so why would anyone else want her looking their way? They don't. Now she's a Pokémon trainer just like everyone else. And they still don't want her to watch them.

It's probably her height that got her all ostracized from the rest of the girls. She was fine until she started her freshman year of high school. Then she shot up to 5' 9" and starting towering over her friends. They didn't mind so much -- it was the preppy girls that whispered about it as she stalked past. I can't believe she dresses like that. She's so bony. She's like a guy! Where are her boobs?

Personality
Heather keeps to herself and her Pokémon, preferring her own company to that of another human's, but if she has to, she will yell herself hoarse to scare away unwanted interest. Experience has taught her to hide her emotions when among other people, for in Heather's opinion, every stranger is a backstabber waiting for an opportunity.

If her original methods fail initially, Heather's stubbornness will kick in and push her to try over and over again until she succeeds. And if multiple attempts all fall short of victory, she can become very bitter very quickly. She is fueled by a self-centered need to feel important, and those who insult her may provoke a whole different side of her. She has a temper with a very short fuse, and while she considers herself above abusing a Pokémon, Heather has no problems with getting into fistfights with strangers if the need arises. She is no stranger to pain and sees it as a temporary setback before the payoff.

Heather is very hesitant to admit to holding anyone in higher regard than herself. But if she did have to choose someone, it would be Cynthia, the champion of the Elite Four in Sinnoh. Cynthia is the perfect example of a strong woman unhindered by men.

Favorite Pokémon
Heather doesn't have specific favorites -- she would accept any pokémon that could prove its power. However, if she did have to choose just one that she liked even a teensy bit more than the others, it would be Vulpix. As a child, Heather was once compared to a Vulpix due to their similar curls -- at which point the offended Vulpix promptly Embered the one to point that out. Heather continues to hold this as a fond memory in her heart.

Biography
Heather was born to a poor family. While she and her younger sister Melissa never went without the necessities - food, shelter, and the like - she had to get most of her childhood possessions and clothes secondhand. This was something she was teased about in grade school, subject to verbal torture from the wealthy, "popular" kids. Heather soon found that she preferred males' company to that of her own gender's, for she found girls to be prone to hurtful gossip, and it was only fellow females that teased her about her financial status. These rich kids had been introduced to Pokémon at an early age, and some brought their own creatures to school with them for show and tell. This was Heather's first sighting of Vulpix, which would one day become one of her very favorite monsters. She envied the wealthy children, not just for their prized Pikachu and Jigglypuff, but for the easy access they had to the many material items Heather often longed to possess.

The older Heather got, the more violent she became. And when gossip reached her ears time and time again, Heather crafted a new sport - prep-hunting. She got in more fights that year than any previous grade in school, and soon earned a kind of fearful respect from the cookie-cutter Barbie-doll wannabes. Slacking off in school was frowned upon by her parents, which made it even more acceptable in her eyes.

Heather just wanted an escape. She tried various different sports, and liked track the best, but couldn't stay on the team for more than a few weeks. She was so insecure of her own ability that even the slightest comment or whisper would tear her apart. She didn't go down without a fight, however. She was kicked from both the volleyball and basketball teams for beating up another teammate. When she was accepted into the track team, much against the school disciplinarians' wishes, her other teammates often regarded her with fearful looks, as though she was a time bomb hoping to explode on them too. Wisely they kept their mouths shut, but after a while Heather could not stomach being ignored by everyone except the coach. She quit the track team respectably, without need of a fight.

After Heather graduated from high school, she started working full-time in the local pokémon department store. It was a boring job, and she hated having to work with customers, but at the same time she couldn't help but envy the many trainers who stopped in to pick up some more potions, great balls, whatever else they needed for their long journeys as trainers. Heather decided she would save up her paychecks one by one.

Almost a year later, an announcement was made to Celadon City from Saffron's sister city, Goldenrod, in Johto. A new region, Melan, had been discovered. At that point, it seemed like everyone all over Kanto was going nuts trying to get there. In the meantime, everyone was buying pokémon equipment like crazy. The department store, along with other pokémarts, were sold out for weeks, so Heather was forced to stay. But when they finally got their new shipments, everyone in the craze had left for Melan. The department store was forced to reduce their prices in order to get business. They lowered so much, in fact, that even Heather (with her many months of saving up) could afford some decent equipment.

When she asked her parents about it, however, they disagreed with her idea, insisting that the notion of becoming a pokémon trainer was ridiculous and that she would never make as much money as she would with a "proper" profession. Her sister Melissa tried to defend her point of view, but it was no use. Many arguments followed, each worse than its predecessor, until finally Heather couldn't stand her parents' dictation any longer. She waited until the dead of night, when everyone was asleep, and she and houndour crept out of her house, heading to Saffron City. From there, she decided that she would go into the pokémart and buy everything she needed under a false name. Then she would find a ship that could take them to Melan. She was an adult now, and it was time she started living her own life.
