REALITY'S EXILE IS MOVING!, And we need your help.

As most of you are aware, our parent forum, Metroid Galaxy, died a rather violent death in mid-December. This was due to a bad administrator wreaking havoc to the board, while the founding admin, GieGie, did nothing to stop it despite the pleas of myself, Psycho, and many other members of the forum.

GieGie is still the root admin of the invisionfree Reality’s Exile forum, and she has continuously refused and/or neglected to change her account and pass the root admin responsibilities to someone else. This represents a huge security risk in our forum, for if GieGie gave her password to someone else or we get hacked, there is absolutely no way we could stop a rampant administrator without having a root administrator account.

In order to remove GieGie permanently from a position of power she no longer takes seriously, EP and I have created a new forum through a different client, Zetaboards. Zetaboards has improved security, along with more user-friendly interfaces. It’s different, yes, but the overall layout is similar and will not take very long to get used to.

We are now ready to open this new site. Here’s where you all come in. We need you all to:

1. Move your reference files to the new site, including character, ship, race, and planet profiles. This should be an easy copy and paste from the old site.

2. Back up any RPs in the archives that are worth saving. To save RPs under approximately 20 pages in size, open the topic and click the “Print Topic” button in the upper right hand corner near the title. This will cause a new window to pop up with all the posts neatly organized. Hit File > Save As > html only. For RPs over 20 pages in size, use the print topic method, but any posts afterwards will be cut off and will need to be copied and pasted manually into a word document. If you have questions about this process, ask any of the staff. Beflexor will be keeping track of which RPs need to be backed up, and she will hopefully post her current list as soon as she reads this announcement.

3. Current, active RPs will continue to run on this website until they get archived or end. If these RPs are not finished by the end of January, we will save them in a word document and finish them in the new site.

4. The old site will remain available for viewing for as long as invisionfree keeps it on its servers, but once we’re settled in I’m going to be changing the domain over to the new site. The old link to this website is present in the ‘portal’ of the new site. Keep it for your records. At the end of January the invisionfree forum will be read-only format, so no one will be able to post in it anymore.

If anyone has questions, please direct them at any of the staff. We’ve been working on this in secret for the past month, but we’re all briefed upon what’s going to happen.

Also, we're open to ideas on ways to improve the organization of this new site (like, storing our reference info a different way or something, I dunno). If anybody has suggestions, please direct them to us.

Here is the list of RPs. These are entirely based on: the quality of the RP (was it worth it?), the number of pages, and whether I read/participated. This is based entirely on my opinion.

This is why I need your help.

The ones listed Back Up? are ones that I heard were good and/or could guess by the number of pages, problem is, I have no idea. That's why I need you to help me. Tell me if they are or are not worth keeping and I will move them accordingly.

If it is listed as Not Backing Up, it just means I'm not backing it up. It's not meant as an insult to you or your RP, the characters or the plot. Backing these up take a lot of time that many of us don't have and I'm just trying to get the most out of what I can do. If you would like an RP backed up, feel free to do so, it would be much help to everyone.

If you back up an RP please tell us! We don't want two people backing up the same RP. It's highly inefficient as you could be backing up another RP while requesting the first one later after someone else has already done it.

If, for any reason, and, at any time, you want a backed up RP. Let the person who backed it up know and they'll be happy to provide. This is another reason you need to let us know who backed it up, Jessie can't give you The Faith if I'm the one who has it! ^_^

Hey, is it really gonna matter much if I make a couple changes to my sci-fi characters? Only one of the characters was in an RP that is getting backed up, and I wasn't too active in that one, so I don't think it's gonna hurt much, but I'm just checking anyway.

...Time to get the uHaul boxes out.

At any rate, I'll be backing up "Curon’s RP", just for the sake of it possibly being revived or whatnot. At any rate, I went ahead and backed up my own characters and the profile on the Wraith PA, so other than that, I'm sort of an un-tapped resource.

If it's not very significant, then I don't think it would cause that much problem. Besides, it would be good to polish up some of the character profiles if possible.

I would really like Blood in the Sand to be backed up. If Pieboy or nobody else does it, then I will.

Questionito: hat do we do about the reference info in topics like "Ships and Technology", "Races and Groups", etc? Should we create a similar, or should we post all info that's ours in our own topics or character profiles?

All these RP backups will be stored on the geckolair domain permanently. In order to avoid confusion, I am going to wait a week or so to give everybody time to back up the RPs, and then systematically I will ask each person (in the order they appear in THIS thread) to send me the RPs they have backed up. That way my inbox doesn't get filled all at once and people don't send me duplicate RPs. As I receive RPs and upload them, I will make them available via a link in the new forum so everybody knows where we stand.

Thanks for the help everybody, and thanks for understanding why we had to move in the first place. I know it's a hassle, but better safe then sorry I figure.

Cemp, to answer your question, I know I didn't create all the reference threads in the new forum. If you or any of the staff notice something missing, go ahead and create it. I'd be glad for the assistance. For now I think it's best if we use RE's current organizational scheme so that people don't get confused. Later on we can decide if we want to change things.

Ah, so I see you guys've finally taken action. Well anyways, moving's great, nothing wrong with a fresh start, especially if you guys can manage to back everything up. Oh, forget about Cataclysmic Clash; it's just a simple one on one and can easily be redone/retconned.

As for the way of ideas, I actually may have a few. Firstly, you guys seriously need a section for regular RP fights. It doesn't have to be canon, it doesn't have to involve plot, just two people (or more depending on the situation) duking it out RP style. I know this concept may seem a little mind boggling, as was seen when I attempted it here, but it can be a very fun and interesting way to RP, and it's good for doing away with the stress of following a plot all the time.

Other than that, I recommend a section for modern RPs. You've got sci-fi, fantasy and random. I'm guessing random could be any mash-up of the above, a sorta no holds barred kinda deal. So why not make a section that caters to modern RPing?

Finalment, I think you guys should drop the dependancy on a Metroid theme for your sci-fi RPs. It actually encourages people to create horribly cliched fan characters when I believe it's more interesting to see people come up with more original ideas. I'm not saying kill it off completely, I'm just saying it would be cooler if you left room for people to create sci fi RPs that aren't limited to a universe related to a popular franchise.

But anyways, those are just suggestions and all, nothing more than that. I believe the move is good for creating opportunities of change from routine.

Oh, as a side note, it appears some outside party has actually hacked Zidane's account on MGB and is working on restoring the board. Other than that, I have no clue what's going on. Anyways, godspeed and good luck with the archiving/transfers. I've already signed up on the other board, so yay!

For the record, RE has been, for a quite a while, a general sci-fi RP, though the RP universe is loosely based on Metroid. The main reason why we changed our name from MRPF to RE is, specificly, we were no longer centering our RP solely on Metroid. They had diverged quite a lot from the series, in fact. You'll find references here and there, but you will also find other stuff added in there too, general sci-fi stuff being one category. We also have a mix of games as well, such as Halo, F-Zero, Scurge, and a few other stuff.

Modern RPs can be easily directed to the random section, though this can be debatable. There can be a wide range of modern-based RPs to play with, much just like the sci-fi section. Detective stories, CIA or whatever it's called can drop to that category. Of course, there can be modern realms with supernatural twist, such as the Chicago detective story, done in an online manga, called "Paradigm Shift" *coughselflessadvertisingcough*.

Such stories can take place during modern times, but have a mixture of fantasy in them as well, making it perhaps difficult to place (Again, stories like Moonlight, and Angel take place during modern times, but have a bit of fantasy mixture). Trouble is, many stories can take place during modern times, but some can have many other side categories.

With so many variations, modern RPs can probably be placed in Random. There's also the matter that we already have three RP sections, one which acts like a miscellaneous section. Four might be just over doing it, and the third can easily make up for it.

\As for regular RP fights, again, this can probably be set right in the random section, simply as a topic. Of course, this is, again, debatable to many.
