With Deep Discount's sale up and running, I thought I'd pick up a few Something Weird titles. There are just too many to choose from, though. Anyone have any suggestions?
I think there was a similar thread in the old forum. I'm pretty sure the Findlays' Flesh trilogy was mentioned, but that's all I can remember. Pretty much anything outside their first two years of output is fair game. I just couldn't afford to keep up with them after that. Any help would be much appreciated! Good advice, Casey's reviews are very good, but if he is looking for older titles you have to pay to see the archived reviews.
DVD Verdict lets you read all their reviews for free, and there's a handy "Rap Sheet" page that links to all their SWV reviews. I don't always agree with their reviews, but you can get all the basic info you'll need there. |

You can read DVDdrive-in's older reviews at DVD-Basen

If I can speak up as a Webmaster who's struggled with expenses for his Web site, if George has part of his site set up as paid access, it seems like his users should honor that instead of using backdoors that circumvent his system.

I do agree with Todd. However, I also am glad that more people have access to the reviews I wrote there a few years ago, so I am a little torn on this.

Luckily I placed my order before that last link was posted, so I didn't end up stealing any not-intended-to-be-free reviews. The free ones were plenty enough for me. Thanks for the help!

Casey Scott posted the link himself, on DVDManiacs, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not really sure how the paying for older reviews at DVD Drive-In works, but I'm glad that I can access them through DVD Basen. I couldn't post that link at DVD Maniacs as I am banned for life thanks to Edwin Samuelson.
It's too late to recommend good SWV discs as the sale is over (boo-hoo, I didn't have money to spend on this one!), but here goes: AXE BAD GIRLS GO TO HELL/ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER MAN DEATH CURSE OF TARTU/STING OF DEATH THE DEFILERS/SCUM OF THE EARTH FLESH AND LACE/PASSION IN HOT HOLLOWS THE GHASTLY ONES/SEEDS OF SIN THE GRUESOME TWOSOME THE OLGA TRILOGY SIN IN THE SUBURBS/THE SWAP AND HOW TO MAKE IT STREET CORNER/BECAUSE OF EVE TEENAGE GANG DEBS/TEENAGE STRANGLER THE THIRSTY DEAD/SWAMP OF THE RAVENS THE TOUCH OF HER FLESH/THE CURSE OF HER FLESH/THE KISS OF HER FLESH THE TOY BOX/TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN THE VIOLENT YEARS/GIRL GANG Lots more, but these are my favorites of the moment. AXE, huh? I'd go with HITCHHIKE TO HELL/KIDNAPPED COED over that one. Fred Friedel directed both AXE and KIDNAPPED COED (his entire filmography?) but I prefer COED, plus HITCHHIKE TO HELL is pretty damn entertaining.
The Olga and Flesh discs should be bought by everyone, immediately. |

I just picked AXE out of all the Novak horrors because it holds a special place in my heart. It was the very first Something Weird Video title I ever saw. way back when in 1997! It's been a long, crazy ride through their catalog since then.
I also adore THE CHILD, except for that damn kid. The atmosphere and musical score help to create one of the more memorable low-budget horrors of the 70s. I agree, Marshall, KIDNAPPED COED is another well-produced little exploitation number, and though HITCHHIKE TO HELL gets a bad rep now and then, it's like a squalid TV movie. And that isn't a bad thing in my mind's eye! I've got Frederick R. Friedel's phone number around here somewhere, I hope to talk to him about his two films. He apparently just shot another film in his new home state of California. |

Friedel is definitely worthy of some attention. I like how people really get the crap beaten out of them in his movies. If he'd made his films in Hollywood, I bet he'd be pretty well known. I could picture Tarantino being into him. And I like Jack Cannon, even if he is a little too actor-y. Wonder what he's up to?

No problem with the list being late, Casey, as I actually ordered a few of those. I picked up THE TOUCH OF HER FLESH/THE CURSE OF HER FLESH/THE KISS OF HER FLESH and THE TOY BOX/TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN. I also ordered the Bad Kids Box, which has THE VIOLENT YEARS/GIRL GANG and TEENAGE GANG DEBS/TEENAGE STRANGLER in it. Did you buy those separately or in the box? Has anyone bought that box? Deep Discount's telling me it's been discontinued, and it's been knocked off my order. Anyone know if this is true?

The BAD KIDS BOX appears to have never come out.

That's strange. Amazon still has it listed as being available too. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's tried to order it. Shame on Amazon and Deep Discount for being so lazy.
