So I bought Criterion upgrades of three films the other night -- BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, WINGS OF DESIRE and BEAUTY & THE BEAST. The latter is an upgrade of a Criterion release so I assume it includes the same supplements. But the other two were originally released by Polygram/USA Pictures and MGM, respectively. I haven't gotten around to playing the new and old discs to compare the extras. Does anyone know offhand if the Criterions include the original supplements? It looks like MALKOVICH has the "7 1/2 Floor Orientation" and "Dance of Despair and Disillusionment" shorts, which are probably the best things on the original Polygram disc, but the Polygram disc has some other stuff on it, like the complete film score.

I can't find a side by side review of the MALKOVICH releases on DVD Beaver. I did find the side by side for WINGS OF DESIRE (MGM, R2 Anchor Bay and Criterion blu-ray) but I had to do an external google search to find it. The internal search did not find it. And while they list the extras, they are a little vague about them. I think the commentaries are either different or the Criterion commentary is an edited version of the original. Anyone know for sure? I was going to give my sister the old discs but I want to make sure I'm not giving up any cool extras.

I use Rewind from time to time and they're usually enough for my purposes but maybe not necessarily in depth enough for your own (no screenshot comparisons for example). Here's their BJM comparison for example: Rewind

I use DVD-Basen to find links to DVD reviews. Just choose which region you'd like to search and type the title into the box. You'll get a collection of links to various DVD review sites. I usually check Mondo Digital, DVD Savant, DVD Drive-In (a site that also reviews extras), DVD Beaver. Sometimes DVD Talk, if one of their good critics reviewed the disc (which I, of course, don't know until I get there).
