Well, it's finally happened. Someone shot into a movie theater audience.

Wow,
That's both absolutely senseless and horrible. Obviously our collective condolences as movie fans to the surviving relatives of the fifty wounded and twelve murdered. There are probably not a few front row viewers in this bunch--myself included--who would be counted among the departed if we were at a similar midnight screening and another spiteful monster wanted to indulge in his dark inner carnage fantasies with a captive audience of unaware, enthusiastic movie fans. Shitty thing to happen anytime to anyone but made even worse in this instance because the victims were merely celluloid dreamers looking to check the noise and crap of everyday life at the door and some calculating killer used the opportunity to do whatever-in-hell's-name-he-was-hoping-to-do with such a senseless, vile display. |

Yeah, that's been all over the local news for the last couple of days---what's even more frightening to me was the fact that this guy,who is obviously mentally ill, was able to get his hands on so much firepower in the first place and how there were NO red flags raised when he was getting all that to begin with. Here in the Detroit area, security has been tightened up in the local theatres throughout the Detroit metro area (there's only five of them in the entire city of Detroit, anyway) and patrons have been told not to wear costumes, or they won't be allowed to go inside the theatres, period, for showing of THE DARK KNIGHT, which I was actually looking forward to seeing, since I enjoyed both BATMAN BEGINS and the sequel after that. It's sad, and a damn shame that this even happened--one of the victims,a 25-year old blogger/journalist, was also a former Michigander herself.
Here's a local columnist's take on the incident, which I agree with very much: http://www.freep.com/article/20120722/COL10/207220572 DARK KNIGHT RISES star Christian Bale (also a fave of mine) paid an unexpected, unannounced visit to the victims of the massacre in the hospital today: http://www.freep.com/article/20120725/ENT0...hooting-victims This post has been edited by Kim Greene on Jul 25 2012, 12:02 AM |
