Though an Oscar nominee for LENNY (74), Surtees will always be remembered for first providing the low-level lighting that Clint Eastwood preferred in his films, an association that began in 1971 with PLAY MISTY FOR ME and continued through the Eastwood-produced THE STARS FELL ON HENRIETTA in 1995. Surtees (son of DP Robert Surtees) shot several Eastwood movies for Don Siegel (plus THE SHOOTIST), Arthur Penn's NIGHT MOVES, Samuel Fuller's WHITE DOG, Paul Brickman's RISKY BUSINESS and MEN DON'T LEAVE, BEVERLY HILLS COP, and PSYCHO III, among others.
