![]() The official website for Noboru Iguchi's Tomie: Unlimited (Tomie: anrimiteddo) is now online, although at present it's just a home page. The movie stars (listed order corresponds to order on official website) Moe Arai, Miu Nakamura (middle of top row), Aika Ôta, Kensuke Ôwada, Kôichi Ôhori, and Maiko Kawakami. Yoshihiro Nishimura and his Nishimura Eizo Co. Ltd. (Y.K. Nishimura Eizô) were responsible for its special make-up effects. Tsuyoshi Kazuno and his Studio Buckhorn Y.K. (Y.K. Here's a synopsis for Tomie: Unlimited from the production: "Tsukiko, who belongs to a photography club at high school, always feel inferior to her elder sister, Tomie. Tomie is breathtakingly beautiful and popular among the male students including Toshio, who Tsukiko is secretly in love with. However one day, an awful accident kills Tomie right in front of Tsukiko. Since then, Tsukiko suffers from a nightmare night after night. A year later, Tsukiko and her parents are silently surrounding a birthday cake to celebrate dead Tomie's 18th birthday. Suddenly, they hear the eerie knocks on their door. Unbelievably, it is Tomie. She's back. The father and the mother blindly welcome Tomie in tears, but Tsukiko feels instinct fear. Tomie gradually reveals her true face only when she is with Tsukiko. Now Tsukiko's nightmare becomes reality, and the terrifying days begin..." T-Joy Co. Ltd. (K.K. ![]() Tomie: Unlimited is scheduled to have its international (i.e., outside-of-Japan) première at this year's Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal on July 31st. Here's a description of Tomie: Unlimited from Fantasia: "Tsukiko, a shy and reserved young girl, develops a passion for photography, impulsively taking snaps of everything that grabs her attention. One day, as she is taking pictures of her beautiful sister Tomie, equally popular at school and at home, tragedy occurs. A metal rod falls from above and impales Tomie, killing her instantly before Tsukiko's panicked eyes. A year later, her grief barely allowing place for anything else, Tsukiko is offered the job of photographer for her school newspaper by no other than Toshio, her deceased sister's boyfriend, whom Tsukiko has always had a crush on. Additionally, on the day of Tomie's anniversary, the doorbell rings and there she is, back from the dead, even briefly evoking her own death! Her parents are excited by her return, but something isn’t quite right... Tsukiko becomes the scapegoat of her father's violent outbursts, which Tomie encourages and helps take to extremes. She is definitely not the loveable young girl she used to be. After a few quarrels, the saddened father even commits the unthinkable. Propelled by a sudden rage he can't explain, he stabs Tomie and cuts her to pieces. The next day, as if nothing happened, Tsukiko goes back to school, but there, she is given yet further reason to question her sanity: a new classmate, who looks exactly like her sister, has just arrived. To make matters worse, she flirts with Toshio and seems determined to turn Tsukiko's existence into a hellish experience. ¶ Talking heads, body mutations and destructive tentacles: welcome to the twisted world of manga artist Junji Ito (creator of UZUMAKI), where the uncanny takes over reality and creates an endlessly oppressive atmosphere. Based on a manga series already adapted to the big screen many times, here's the latest of the TOMIE films which, fear not, have nothing to do with each other aside from the unstoppable entity Tomie. Noboru Iguchi (KARATE-ROBO ZABORGAR, also part of the Fantasia 2011 program) directs this new installment, which surprises with its inventiveness and relentlessly nightmarish imagery. Absent from the screens for many years, Tomie can't begotten rid of that easily. She's back to terrorize the Fantasia audience!" BTW, Karate-Robo Zaborgar is scheduled to be screened at Fantasia on July 30th. ![]() Samurai Angel Wars Distribution rights for Tomie: Unlimited are to be offered for sale by Nikkatsu Corporation (Nikkatsu K.K.) at this year's American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, California. Arai co-stars with Kasumi Arimura and Seika Taketomi in Futoshi Satô's Samurai Angel Wars (Gyaru basara: Sengoku-jidai wa kengai desu), which Kadokawa Pictures (Kadokawa Shoten Co. Ltd. / K.K. Kadokawa Shoten) is scheduled to release theatrically in Japan on November 26th. Distribution rights for it are to be offered for sale by Kadokawa Pictures at this year's AFM. Here's a description of Samurai Angel Wars from Kadokawa Pictures: "Somehow, female high-school students from our modern era time-travel into the middle of the 16th century Warring States period. They are suddenly thrown into the midst of that bloodthirsty war, a situation where spontaneous killing becomes a fact of life. Through their characteristic vitality and matter-of-fact courage, they luckily repaint the picture of the Warring States period. These girls have a strength that knows no fear. In the end, what will happen with the history of Japan?! ¶ With a touch of comedy, we see the growth and friendship of these high school girls who have been thrown into an unbelievable world, and in the end we'll be moved to tears by the unfolding drama of these young people." ![]() Here's a synopsis for Dead Sushi via Gaijinsploitation.com: "Keiko is the daughter of a legendary sushi chef. Hoping to follow in his footsteps, she enters into training under her father's guidance. The kung fu-like regime is rigid, pushing her to her mental and physical limits. Unable to take it, she runs away. ¶ Finding work at a rural hot spring inn, Keiko is dismayed to find that her co-workers are an eccentric lot who have it in for the new girl. Complicating matters is the arrival of a group of employees from Komatsu Pharmaceutical there to sample the inn's famous specialty sushi. Following them in pursuit of revenge is a medical researcher betrayed by the Komatsu president. The disgruntled man injects the hotel sushi with a drug that not only brings the sushi pieces to life but also turns them into ferocious bloodthirsty killers. ¶ Right away the reanimated sushi begins to kill off the hotel guests. Fatty tuna chews into human tongues; flesh hungry salmon roe leaps about with gnashing fangs; and the sashimi pieces laid across the bodies of beautiful women devour them before the eyes of the stunned guests. ¶ Panic ensues as the sushi multiplies, infecting humans and turning them into zombie-like creatures. Fighting back, Keiko turns her kung fu on the sushi. But will it be enough to fend off the unremitting terror of the killer sushi?"
