TCM (US) has a solid true-crime night scheduled for tomorrow, beginning with IN COLD BLOOD at 8pm EST and including HE WALKED BY NIGHT, THE ONION FIELD, and an obscure Columbia B with Jack Lord and Betsy Palmer, THE TRUE STORY OF LYNN STUART. The highlight may be Richard Fleischer's 1971 film of the Christie murders, which is only available as an R2 DVD. Really grim and gripping story, excellently acted by Richard Attenborough, John Hurt, and Judy Geeson. Worth recording (all, really; has anyone seen LYNN STUART since 1958?)

10 RILLINGTON PLACE is almost too grim to endure - without, as I recall, a single drop of blood being spilled onscreen.

Yes, I think you're right. As unbearable as "torture porn," without the torture or the porn, just that clammy, squirmy situation.

It has a tabloid look that foreshadows TAXI DRIVER. It has color and polish but it is so dirty and grey.

And a word about the unbearable sadness of it all.

I saw that in the theatre, during its initial run. As a true-crime buff, I couldn't miss it.

This was before John Hurt really exploded (ha, ha!*) as an actor. Very, very grim. If you feel overcome watching this, "it's the goodness taking effect!"

Richard Fleischer excelled at true crime films. They're all worthwhile.
