Tomorrow, the Mobius Home Video Forum will have been rocking the Internet for ten years. Or at least November 6, 1999 was the day Todd Harbour grabbed the mhvf.net domain and got the ball rolling. On behalf of Todd and all the moderators, I'd like to thank all of you for making Mobius such a warm, inviting place to hang out, share knowledge, and make friends.

Here's a look at the earliest Mobius page I could find through the Internet Archive Wayback Machine: March 10, 2000. You can see how many of you were active here then and now. I see Lisa Larkin, Doug Dillaman, John Charles, Richard Harland Smith, Ian McDowell, Don May, Tim Lucas, and many others. We didn't even have the Cult/Exploitation or Television boards then. I also see the names of Linn Haynes and Rick Squillante, to the best of my knowledge the only two Mobians to pass away during the last ten years.

Special thanks to Bill Picard and William Wilson for pointing out the ten-year anniversary to me (I'm like an absent-minded husband in that regard) and obviously to Todd for keeping the gears running behind the scenes. This week, Todd renewed the mhvf.net domain for another two years, so there's a lot more discussions of aspect ratios, missing scenes, unnecessary remakes, and John Ashley movies to come.

Thanks, all!

I don't remember when I first started posting on the Asian Cinema board (ACD, as we used to call it)--I was referred here by an old college friend who has long since been banned--but it was either around the time CROUCHING TIGER came out in late 2000 or SHAOLIN SOCCER in mid-2001. I remember heated debates about those films, primarily SOCCER. The CTHD debate may have been on alt.asian-movies (remember that site?), but it could have been here, too. Anyone recall?

We haven't had one of those debates in a very long time. Either we've mellowed, our interests have narrowed, or there are simply so few things in release worth debating about with that kind of fervor anymore. I mean, the only other person here who's even seen KUNG FU CHEFS actually agreed with me. (Thank you, Tim biggrin.gif )

I'm also one who made the transition here from alt.asian-movies...back in the days when Usenet was starting to be overrun by schoolkids, and these fancy new interwebs were the wild frontier.

Significantly, the Post I Have Not Yet Made in the what-you've-been-watching thread centers about new works by half a dozen Asian filmmakers whom I discovered and adored back in the '90s. Gathering enough energy to write it has been the problem, as most of those recent movies were resounding disappointments. There was one notable exception...but as that film's wide release ended nearly a year ago, the sense of urgency is gone there as well. Maybe I should just start a contest to see if anyone can guess what those titles are. ninja.gif

Well, only for two of them and I'll let you figure out which two. (Hint: the ones without a notable filmmaker at the helm. tongue.gif)
