Stallone to direct Jason Statham and Jet Li!, THE EXPENDABLES

Apparently, Sylvester Stallone is directing (and co-starring with?) Jet Li and Jason Statham in a movie called The Expendables. I like this idea. I like it a lot.

I like the idea of Stallone pairing up with some younger action stars a lot too. Of course, I would still love for him to get his Poe feature done.

According to the Ultimate Dolph fan site, Stallone is also trying to get his ROCKY IV nemesis Dolph Lundgren in this, which makes it automatically a must see picture!

While they're at it, why don't they hire Carl Weathers, Mr T and Tommy Morrison. OK, maybe not Tommy Morrison.

UFC star Randy Couture and Forrest Whitaker have also been cast in this. Plus, Jet Li will be fighting Dolph!

Van Damme needs to be in this. Throw in Seagal and it would be the IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD of B-grade action flicks.

And it's being bankrolled by Millennium/Nu Image! YES!!!

I'd almost rather Stallone stick to starring and let Isaac Florentine direct.

Or maybe it's the Destroy All Monsters of b-grade action flicks.

Why not Chuck Norris? And Sonny Chiba? And Sammo Hung! And, speaking of Isaac Florentine...the Power Rangers!!!!

Van Damme was offered a role and turned it down! Suddenly the guy who made about 30 DTV flicks is concerned about character. Here is what he said in a recent interview about it.

They need to write some scenes for Van Damme that give him lots of "character," pay him less money than they would have, then shoot those scenes, along with some obligatory fight scenes, cut out all the "character" scenes, and leave in only what the rest of us would want to see. Somebody involved in the movie has got to be smart enough to finesse this.

I hope we're not looking at another SNAKES ON A PLANE type disappointment. Not that this movie is being over-hyped (yet).

Stallone has knocked the coolness of the flick down a couple of notches by revealing to AICN that he has cast Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent) in the flick.
