Prior to 1966, most tv/movie spaceships-spacecraft were saucers & rockets, perhaps there were a few exceptions. Enterprise changed all that.

Star Wars took it too the next level, Battlestar Gallactica to a degree prior to that. Ty fighters still look cool today.
