I found a great picture of some converted kroot centaurs on CMoN ages ago. I finally managed to get hold of some wood elf horses, and thought I would have a go at making some of my own. This is what I have so far, after one session of GSing:

So, what do you think so far?

Great work with GS Mal'Caor kroothappy.gif

I think you could make it better by changing the tail for a more kroot looking one, because hair seems strange on kroot in my opinion.

Thanks guys. Wetcorps, I think I agree, but what would you suggest for a Kroot-style tail? As far as I can remember, Kroot don't usually have a tail, and a horse might look a little odd without one. I suppose I could always try for a set of extended spikes, but that would probably mean adding a ridge of them along the back, and a few on the legs. I had been hoping to avoid that if possible...

I'd swap the hooves for claws.
Also, mabye put some spikes running down from his head along his back.

They could count as knarloc riders!

Can't wait to see the result!

Kroot and all their sub-species actualy have ridiculous little tails.
Have a look on kroot hounds, it is a good base for yours.

However I wouldn't be chocked by a kind of lizard tail.

The spikes sound good, Niatica. Claws could be a bit difficult as only one of the hooves attaches directly to the base, and two of them have that sort of supporting 'grass', for lack of a better description. It might be doable, but it will definitely come later on if at all.

The tail is a different story. I had sort of forgoten about that pitiful little tail, but that brings problems of its own. Most of the Kroot and their sup-species have a narrow lower body, which leads to a very specific look for the tail. The horse is somewhat wider at the rear, so if I do go for a kroot tail, it could end up looking tacked on. I will need to think about it for a while!

As for what they will eventually represent, I intend to use them as Trackers as long as I can use the Mercs armylist. If I can't, they will indeed be Knarloc Riders!

I'll be back with more progress once I have done examining the Krootox and Kroot Hounds I have - they should give me more of an idea how to 'Krootify' the horse body. krootveryhappy.gif

By knarloc riders, I actually meant trackers (not great knarloc riders).
Sorry.

If you're really good with greenstuff, mabye you could mould little spikes all over its body.

Nope, I didn't mean GKs either. I think I was confused and thinking of the forgeworld rules for goaded Knarlocs.

I was thinking of giving the Extended Quills tutorial a try, using Kroot Hounds instead as a base. If it doesn't work, I will try something more creative. Oh, and as I now seem to be comitted to spines, I may as well do the ones on the legs too.

Why do I seem to go out of my way to make more work for myself...? kroottongue.gif

Edit

Well, progress has been a bit slow, but yesterday I got hold of some new Kroot Hounds (it's a good excuse), and tried my hand at making a mould for them using an adaptation of the Extended Quills Tutorial. I will have a go at making the quills tomorrow, and pics will follow. Wish me luck!

I found these while browsing coolminiornot for kroot, and I don't think the hair really works:

It would seem that you really don't like the hair... kroottongue.gif

Thanks Niatica; I've seen those pics before, and they were probably what prompted me to make some of my own. Personally, I think the amount of hair/fur on there is a little much, hence why I have gone with the simple 'hroot harness' approach. I don't think they would look right without a tail though.

Well, I have had a go with adding mouldings from kroot hound quills, and it doesn't really work for me, and looks a little too strange with the upright body shape of the Kroot torso. I'm thinking of taking a leaf out of the Krootox and Knarloc's book, and keeping the spines confined to the head crest and the triple set on each leg, so I will try that next. Pics of the 'hound quills' stage will be up in a few days, but it would take quite a lot of comments to their effectiveness to make me keep them! krootbigsmile.gif

Any thoughts on the little tails a la kroot hounds and oxen? I've had a think, but I can't come up with a convincing way to do them on the body/shape of a horse.

Later than promised, here's a picture of the moulded spines on the test model. As you can see, there's a little more than just the spines, to give you an idea of what it should look like when it's finished. Personally, I am not really convinced about the spines, but what do you guys think?

Nor me...

I think you could forget the spines and replace the tail by a reptilian one. Even if it is not a kroot tail, these kroot grew 2 more legs so they could have changed their tails krootwink.gif
