Seriously, bear with me. I'm just getting over my writer's block, and this just kind of slipped out. There isn't a lot to it right now, and I'm not sure if I'll be adding more, but I guess if I can think of something I will.
And I know it'll sound very suggestive when you read it, but I'm really not meaning for it to sound that way. I just have an interesting way of wording things. Also, it will probably look like I'm a Sidney fangirl, and I guess I probably am. I'm a sucker for guys with glasses and greenish hair. ...Derek is still a lot cuter, don't get me wrong. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Warm, afternoon sunlight made it's way into Sidney's office in streaks of gold though the sky outside the wide, closed window was blue. The streaks of light came in at an angle until they were distorted by touching against the polished auburn wood of a desk, or the dull, jade green of Sidney's hair. His voice rang out with a tone as professional as the navy-blue suit over his torso, though the person to whom he was speaking was not currently in the room. His words went directly from his thin lips to the skinny cellular phone in his right palm. His grip on the object was loose, yet his fingers coiled around it protectively so as not to allow any sort of harm come to it. His small eyes stared down at a document on his desk that was freshly printed with jet-black ink in the shapes of numbers, letters, and dashes that together formed some kind of official report about a certain facility referred to countless times by the letters as "Caduceus." Occasionally he would look away from the paper, or absently turn in his revolving chair to face the window, where the golden light glinted blindingly from the elliptical lenses of the pair of glasses that so elegantly defined his face. The importance of the call had been taken care of already, and they had moved on to small talk. There was a trace of boredom in Sidney's expression, or else he was just fatigued by some hidden, unnamed stressor. When he slowly twisted his chair back to it's original position, his eyes finally stared upward to look across the room to the only door that led into his office. Instantly his expression shifted to something of slight surprise and a little shock, even so much that his calm voice stuttered and cut off in mid-sentence. For a moment he just stared forward with a blank look, then tilted his head toward the phone and quietly excused himself from the conversation, finishing with a slight press upon a red button labeled "end." The cellular chirped a quick note and dimmed, falling asleep in Sidney's hand without protest, passively accepting being slid into the man's pocket until its use was desired again. The whole time, he never looked away from the doorway, or rather, the young man who stood there, staring at him with dark, stabbing eyes which showed no emotion other than perhaps a state of being annoyed at something, perhaps everything. The eyes were shadowed by coal-black streaks of hair that hung loosely over his forehead like dripping streams of spilt ink. His closed mouth was straight to a near perfection, the corners of it slanted downward to form a little frown to match the annoyed look in his eyes. His skin was somewhat pale, but this pallid tone was not easy to recognize when not shown in comparison to his colleagues. Sidney smoothed out the surprised look that he had greeted the man with and spoke to him with the same professional voice that he had offered to his cell phone. "Yes, Victor?" The dark-eyed fellow's lips shifted ever so slightly, so that the very corners of his mouth slanted at an upward angle to form a mild smirk. "Just here to deliver the latest report from the lab," he said with an expected coolness in his voice. Sidney was used to it, but he would have appreciated to hear a "sir" every now and then. "Ah, yes," he responded, suddenly realizing that a peach-colored folder fat with papers was gripped in Victor's thin hands, "thank you." Victor walked through the office with silent footsteps and silent breath, so much so that had they not just conversed, Sidney might have forgotten that he was still there. Victor's pacing was relaxed, his body language suggesting that he was in Sidney's office simply because he had nothing better to do, and he continued this pattern as he walked a straight line until coming to a gradual halt before the shimmering, auburn desk that glowed almost ruby under the sunlight's influence. He stared down at the numbered document that mentioned Caduceus, his mind curious about it but at the same time unable to care less. He seemed almost able to smell the warm ink that stared back at him, black as his eyes. Without comment, he placed the folder on top of the document so that his brain wouldn't be tempted to attempt to interpret the upside-down series of digits and letters that developed into words and percentages. He looked now at the folder, which had been crudely printed with Caduceus's crest of a winged staff against a red-trimmed blue background. The same crest sat silently on one side of his wrinkled uniform. Sidney nodded and promptly slid his hand under the top cover of the folder and flipped it open to the first page of the report. The papers hissed a whisper with the gentle shifting. Here he found more letters, numbers, and dividers made of short dashes. He looked up for a second to permit Victor to leave, but it seemed as though the fellow had already taken his cue. With a quiet sigh, Sidney turned back to the window, looking over his shoulder at the sky, sunlight sparkling off his glasses. It was still blue like a heavenly azure, but the horizon was quickly fogging with silver blankets of black-laced clouds that told of a coming rainstorm, as if Victor's darkness were not a prophecy enough. -------------------- "Disclaimer: This game is indended for entertainment purposes only and contains no medical advice.
