welcome to gotham city
Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push and it seems these days all Gotham has gone to Hell. As one by one Gotham’s citizens seem to be following in the footsteps of Gotham’s two biggest patrons. Some wish to rise up and save it from the brink of madness, while others wish to watch the world burn. Where do you stand in the war for Gotham’s streets, with Harvey Dent and Gordon’s silent protector or do better fit in with the Joker and his better class of criminal. Or just maybe perhaps you stand in the middle, trying to make sense of the chaos. Ether way prepare yourselves, a dark dawn is on the horizon.

Barbara was sure of it this time. Ironic how out of the entire 'bat family' it had been Robin who'd been the easiest to track down and figure it out. Of course, she had to remind herself that he'd long since stopped using the alias of Robin. He was NIGHTWING now. It had been threw lots of work, hours and hours of reviewing footage and hacking into so many domains and if anyone were to catch her, Barbara would have dug herself a hole so deep that she'd never truly be able to climb out. But with everything, she was proud of what she'd done. She'd never been able to not locate a person and well, figuring out the secret identities of Gotham's dark avengers, well if anything it had been an obsession based challenge that she hadn't been able to let go of. Now her only question, what as she going to do with this information now.

Barbara wasn't the kind of person that would go around telling people who they were. Especially in a city like Gotham were she was positive even the walls had ears. One could never be too careful and part of her wanted to point out that although she was damn good at her job, if she could figure it out, surely someone else could too. And the next person who did, well they might not be as nice as Barbara was. Her next logical choice, after backing up her files and encrypting them once more, was to set up a meeting with Dick Grayson. The former ward of Bruce Wayne's was harder to track down then Babs might have originally estimated, but she was nothing if not determined. Especially since she wanted to be the one to prove to him that she'd been the one to figure it out.

The young, nineteen year old, daughter of the commissioner had figured out his most guarded secret. If that wasn't worth something, Barbara didn't know what. Still sitting at her computer desk, staring at the number that was flashing on screen, Barbara hesitated for a moment longer before pressing the talk button on her phone. She and Dick, they'd never really talked a whole lot. Hell she'd be surprised if he even remembered her. But seeing as she was working along side her father and the GOTHAM PD, it would make sense that he might have to listen to what she had to say. At least in theory she hoped he would. It seemed however that luck wasn't on her side and when she got kicked over to voice mail she sighed softly. Well crappy timing. Waiting until the voice recording finish, Barbara left a simple message.

"Hey it's me. We need to talk. That coffee shop across the street from the Mall. 4:00. Don't make me wait Grayson."

Snapping her phone shut, Barbara was positive that he'd be there, but keeping her fingers crossed anyway, she let her gaze drift back to the computer screen she merely exited out of the program and switched her laptop off before returning it to it's case. With any luck she could grab something from the kitchen and still make it to the shop on time.

Powerful back leaned back against a comfortable leather chair, azure sparkling eyes scanned a book intensely ignoring the sound of several people who were demanding their coffee. Almost two hours Dick had been reading attentively, isolated from the outside world. Unlike his mentor, Grayson never did take well to being all by himself. However, right now he felt comfortable. He didn’t care a lot about it as long as he had a cup of coffee and a comfortable seat. His copy of ‘It’ of Stephen King was open beside him on the small circular chair. The smell of fresh coffee was in the air, carried upon a soft yet chilling breeze stimulating his senses; tingling his skin. Dick was an eager learner. Practically, he could spend hours and hours reading, absorbed in his very own thoughts, trying to get rid of the memory of Bruce. How could he be that stupid to get into such a huge trouble?

A muscular torso held a tight, white t-shirt and a loose, navy blue hooded sweatshirt that looked rather ragged. Black baggy jeans also hung comfortably on his waist and black sandals protected his feet from the rough ground. He also donned a black, ragged hat that hid his face in shadow, allowing his short, dark brown hair to also be hidden. He wasn’t that much of a looker, and would probably get no more than a glance. But he knew that soon enough, he would be important, hopefully. Looking where the waitress was, the twenty year old dark haired man realized the place had been redecorated, now the coffee shop was a modern minimalist room that was decorated in white and creamy tones that make the atmosphere a cozy place were one could have a conversation without being bothered by any lousy idiot. Several wooden tables were carefully distributed around the building in order to give privacy to the customer who arrived there. Apparently, the owner tried to create the more cozy atmosphere to make people who liked to enjoy a good cappuccino or a moment of peace without being worried about being disturbed.

Long strong fingers on his left hand drummed a silent rhythm against his knee while the right toyed with small hole in his sleeve. Suddenly, a faceless voice proclaimed asked him if he wanted more coffee. “No, thank you. I’m fine” Dick spoke and continued reading his book in silence. He didn't know how long he'd been waiting for Barbara to arrive. However, there was no rush. He had nothing to do this afternoon. Plus, it would be nice to talk to Barbara.

Barbara had suddenly gotten nervous as she made her way down to the coffee shop she'd set the meeting up. This was a big deal and although she was positive that him knowing, that she knew was a good thing, Barbara wasn't too sure how well he was going to take it. Dick he wasn't an easy person to read half the time. And although they'd hit off well, there were still time when she was left wondering just what was going threw that head of his. It made sense now, but could you blame her for being all worked up know that she was going to go threw with it. Setting her shoulders and glancing around once more, Barbara forced herself to walk across the street and head towards the coffee house in question before she talked herself out of it.

Pulling the door open, Barbara inhaled deeply the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee and could feel the tension just leaving her body upon stepping inside. Perhaps she was just over reacting. Pulling the cap off her head and running a hand threw her hair trying to smooth it out, she cast a glance around the shop trying to locate Dick and see if he was here yet. At first sweep, she hadn't spotted him but then she caught sight of that familiar, worn blue hooded sweater that Dick loved a tad too much and couldn't stop the smile from finding it's way onto her lips. At least he'd taken her seriously. She couldn't say that for a few other males in her life.

Making her way threw the crowd over to him, she tilted her head slightly to the side catching sight of the book he was reading. "It?" She asked a teasing tone slipping into her voice as she spoke. "Isn't that a tad beneath us?" Slipping into a chair across from him, Barbara merely slipped her coat off, letting her purse drop to the floor before sinking back into the chair with a content sigh. She so needed one of these chairs in her room. It would make computer work so much better, even if it wasn't proper posture.

There was something wrong going on in the air. Dick could feel it. It was like the stench of a rotten dead animal making its way through his nostrils. At the beginning, he just thought that it was finally his paranoia that it was finally affecting his mind. However, when he saw Barbara's facial expression, he knew his feelings were not a product of his imagination. She looked liked she was hiding something, something really important and was a little bit concerned about it. Unfortunately, Dick couldn't point out what that was. He was the kind of guy who didn't like surprises. Unless, it was a sexy girl doing some nice moves on him. “Barbara, how you doing?” Dick greeted politely and got up from his seat to shake her hand. Though he was really young, Richard's manners were spotless. It was really easy to see Alfred's influence in his mannerisms. Grayson could be a gentleman whenever he wanted to.

“Do you want something to drink?” He asked the girl politely and then indicated the waitress to come. Quickly, she approached to the spot both were and smiled at them. One could see by her smile and the way she was looking at Dick that she know well who he was. Apparently, every member of the staff was more than eager to please Richard because they knew he was related to Mister Bruce Wayne. Little they knew that Dick and Bruce rarely talked anymore. Bruce and Dick didn't get along that well. In addition, Bruce's agenda was too tight to give his ward (Bruce had never called Dick 'son' before) more than five minutes. “Everything is really good here” Richard said and smiled at her, there was a glint in his eyes that said he knew Barbara was keeping a secret. “Or do you want me to help you out to pick something?” He offered politely.

Dick indicated the waitress to give them some more minutes to pick something and then come back. Slowly, he tilt his head to the right side and looked at Barbara in a way that could be only described as knowing, and then he leaned against the chair. “It's been a while since we see each other face to face” He said affably and took one second to think what to say. “Why did you call me?” Dick asked.

The longer she continued to beat about the bush and not ask him right away, the more chance she was giving herself of not getting to an actual point where she could drop this bomb on him. After all, there wasn't exactly a text book for doing this sort of thing and to be honest, Barbara was too headstrong to have stopped to read one anyway. While she loved learning and research and being in on the loop, when faced with something like this she wouldn't admit that she was slight one track minded. Always had been, even when she was younger and people like 'NIGHTWING' and 'BATMAN' where only fantasy's in her head that made her sleep better at night. Funny how those times changed.

If anything it was funny how Barbara had missed the look that had crossed Dick's face the moment she stepped into the coffee shop and said hello to him. If she had of known that her poker face wasn't as good as she'd pictured it to be upon leaving the house she shared with her family she might have just jumped right out and told him straight and narrow that she knew that he and the vigilante known as Nightwing were one in the same. And if it wasn't for the fact that she wasn't quite sure of how to go about revealing this tidbit of information to him, she would have already done so and wouldn't be acting nearly as shifty and jumpy as she was at the moment.

As always though, Dick never failed to disappoint and when he jumped to his feet after she'd finished teasing about his choice of reading, she slowly pulled herself back up from the comfy chair and took his hand. These Wayne boys, always with the manners. Alfred truly had sunk his teeth into them. Even little Tim Drake, at thirteen was nothing short of an angel when company was around. It was something that never failed to amuse her whenever she and Jimmy spent some quality time over at the manor with Tim.

"I'm doing good. Finally managed to dig myself out from the library" She commented with a light laugh as she merely clasped her hands together and rocked slightly on the balls of her feet. A nervous habit she had but something she'd never quite been able to quit. At the question about wanting to drink, Barbara nodded finding the sudden desire for a pick me up and she cast a glance around, looking for a menu to decide from when she noticed Dick motioning someone over. A waitress no doubt, more than eager to pounce upon them and do her best to keep them happy. One of the benefits of being the ward of Bruce Wayne, everyone treated you like you were gold.

While pressure wasn't something Barbara cared too much about nothing really seemed to bother her, the waitress standing just out of arms reach, but obviously waiting to take their order, should she ever decide on what to have, made an uneasy feeling pass through Barbara and she was more than thankful when Dick waved her off. However when she caught that glint in his eyes moment later, she felt her hands clam up and her mouth go dry. He knew or at least he knew she was hiding something. What that might be, Barbara was positive he'd have no idea but there was no mistake from that look in his eyes. "Ah... oh jeeze. Surprise me." She tried to managed a feeble smile, but knew it failed.

“Nice to see you, here. I'm glad you made it” He said smiling as he approached a little bit closer to analyze her body language. Dilated pupils, quick breathing, oh yeah. It was more than clear by the way she moved and talked that clearly indicated she was excited. Heck, he could bet that she was restraining herself in order not to go bouncing all over the place. “That's nice. You should get the sunlight to kiss your skin from time to time. It's not healthy to be locked all day there” He commented casually, his voice and body language exuded confidence.

As long as Dick remembered, he had always been whored more than Angelina Jolie kids. Blond bimbos who wanted a piece of Bruce’s ass, rich people who wanted their children to befriend him, or a reporter from a heart magazine who wanted to approach him to know more about the mysterious life of the Prince of Gotham, all of them knew him. Awkwardly, he didn’t. That’s why he didn’t find unusual people greeted him on the street or approached him on the streets. He didn't think Barbara was looking to ask her a favor. However, he felt she was hiding something from him. Hopefully it was not something bad. Dick hated when people took him out of guard.

“Tell me, what can I do for you?” He replied and gave her a polite grin, the same polite grin he had displayed in front of Bruce’s rich snobbish friends whenever one said a joke it wasn’t funny, or the phony expression he had portrayed in front of them every time he asked him to go with him to charity party where everybody tried to get rid of their guilt by donating immense quantities of money for charity. It was not that he didn't like Barbara, he was taught to be kept a distance from the rest of the world. Whenever he let a new person to get inside his life, that person got hurt. He didn't want another person suffering because of him.

"I'm sorry, I think you should ask the waitress. She can help you more than I can" He replied smiling.

Any other time she might have not even noticed that he'd stepped closer. It truly wasn't something she put a lot of thought into mostly because she was so comfortable with Dick that it really had never bothered her before. But things had changed, a lot in the last few weeks alone and part of her wished that she had just let it go. Then she wouldn't be stuck here tossing around the idea of whether or not telling him that she knew, would be a bad idea or not. But regardless of everything, the moment he'd gone and stepped closer to her, Barbara had taken a step backwards resuming the distance that had been between them. Oh yes, she was definitely hiding something. It would be clear to everyone in the coffee shop.

A soft laugh escaped her lips at his comment about getting out into the sun more, and although it was strained it was real. "You'd think I was a vampire or something." She couldn't' deny that his confidence was beginning to shake her. He was so damn hard to read some days. She really had no idea of how he was going to react to what she had to say and there was a part of her that worried what might happen to their friendship if things were to go bad.

Letting her gaze snap back to his when he spoke once more. Asking her what he could do for her, Barbara knew that this was perhaps the only moment she'd get to do this without screwing things up and she was pretty sure that even if she told him right now that it was going to take him by surprise. Licking her lips, Barbara was trying her hardest to not to freak out on him. But the way he was looking at her, with that smile he usual reserved for people he didn't like/trust well it made her swallow past the lump in her throat and she merely rested her hands on the table taking a moment to gather her thoughts before she pressed forward.

"I know who are you." She said finally, her gaze finding his once more locking with his. The look in her eyes was deadly serious and she waited to see if things would change. If he'd deny it, or maybe he'd get angry and do something rash. Or perhaps he'd just disconnect and she'd be left trying to figure it all out, all over again.

“You are not bad. If you were a vampire, I would like you bite me” He said teasingly. All the things in their childhood that should have driven a normal kid over the brink, Dick had simply taken them. In stride. Now, he passed off with that smirk and a stupid, usually crass joke. —his average day was full of things that would send normal people running in the opposite direction, gibbering, and Grayson just made a sarcastic comment and shot them. That was the way it was, had always been, that was the way the world worked for him. Gently, he leaned against the chair and looked at Barbara. Dick had the feeling where this conversation was coming. However, he didn’t want to rush things and opened his mouth. Bruce, Tim, Alfred and him would be in great danger if their secret was revealed. So, Dick would have to play dumb as long as he could.

“Well, I’m Richard John Grayson. I’m handsome, I’m gifted and I have a long life in front of me” He replied affably when she told him she knew who he was. It was not a secret for the people who knew the real Dick Grayson that he was a really proud man who liked getting recognition like any other good artist would. Maybe it was the fact there was gypsy blood running through his veins, but he found practically irresistible not to display his abilities whenever he had the chance to. It was not that he was not confident; in fact Richard John Grayson was a very confident man -too cocky for his own good sometimes. “But I think you and half of Gotham knows that” He commented trying to make her think he was a simpleton. Dick knew it wouldn’t be too hard, many people didn’t like it. However, it was not something he really cared about it. As long as he was happy with himself, he would be fine.
“Barbara, what are you up to?” He said affably as he drank his soda. “You are not being yourself lately” Dick commented casually.

"Is there something wrong at home?" Grayson asked.

Barbara should have known that she'd never get away with a straight forward admission. But this wasn't anything like she'd been expecting to get from him, To be honest Barbara had thought, however tiny it was that maybe Dick might have trusted her enough to at least admit to her that she was right. While of course the more rational side of her had been expecting this. Maybe a little more show, denial or something but instead Dick was acting like his cocky, confident self. If anything this act struck her as odd, considering the bombshell of information she'd just dropped on him.

Not letting herself slip up and say something she might regret later, Barbara merely let her gaze hone in and lock on Dick, trying to get a read on him. Usually she was very good with this sort of thing, but trying to get inside that head of his right now, it as similar to looking for a need in a haystack. Virtually impossible. If she had the time and patience to do so, she might have but Barbara knew better than to let something like this sit for too long.

And then just like that, he'd gone and shifted the attention back to her. And done it so smoothly too it had almost left her speechless. After all of that and he just went and flipped the light back on to her. Men, why on earth where they so aggravating. Still keeping her gaze trained on him, Barbara found herself biting her tongue to keep herself from screaming out loud. So maybe he was just trying to protect the rest of the 'bat family', she could understand that. But it was her. Barbara Gordon. It wasn't like he couldn't trust her, and she was fairly certain that her father was still working Batman despite the outward act he seemed to be putting on at the PD.

"Don't play games with me Grayson! I know it as you." Part of her wanted him to challenge her. Needed that just so she could go and prove to him that she knew exactly what she was talking about. But Barbara knew that he wouldn't. After all what's the first thing you'd learn about having a secret identity. You keep it at all costs.

Warmed by the fire crackling in the hearth of the stone fireplace, Dick observed the scene in front of him attentively. “OK” He replied bewildered and blinked twice. Though he didn't know exactly what it was going on with Barbara, he could guess what it was going on. He didn't say a thing. Dick simply stayed there looking at her attentively. Probably, she was expecting him to throw a tantrum or pretend to be offended. However, he remained calm. Dick was used to deal with these kind of situations. In addition, Barbara seemed to have no evidence to support her theory. Otherwise, she would have taken a more direct approach. Perhaps, it was time to use a different strategy to get rid of her. Barbara seemed to be too stubborn to admit defeat.

Slowly, he took a chocolate sugar cookie and started eating it. He took a small sip of hot chocolate in a blue-and-white mug that was in front of him. Dick curled his long fingers around the mug, sipping the rich chocolate, wrapping his muscular legs around the expensive chair legs. He didn't look defensive or angry. In fact, Richard looked worried about Barbara. The commissioner's daughter was one of the few people of the opposite gender who had a good concept of him. So, it was not hard to fake concern. Dick had learned to appreciate her through the months they'd been friends. “Look, I know you here many crazy things about me, Bruce and Tim” He replied affably, there was a glint in his eyes that told he was more than used to be the object of gossip. “However, few of them are really truth” He commented and continued enjoying his drink.

The smell of muffins fresh out of the oven drifted from the room making Dick's mouth water. He asked the waitress to bring two; one for him, another for Babs. Dick savored each bite, washing it down with hot chocolate. It was not that he wasn't taking Barbara seriously, Dick simply was trained in order not to show his real feelings. “Barbara, I know I'm not the best person. But I think I deserve some privacy” He commented calmly and then looked at her at the eyes hoping she understood the message. "What wrong did I do?" He asked seriously.

There was no denying that Barbara if anything was far too proud and stubborn to admit defeat. If anything, it wasn't something that she wanted to do, and that fell online with the same lines as this conversation with Dick. Although he seemed to have his own plans as to what he wanted her to know and what he was going to just brush off as if she'd gone and said something along the lines of how nice the weather was. Perhaps it really was better this way. Maybe sticking her nose in places it wasn't wanted, nor needed was something that would only get her in bigger trouble along the road somewhere.

Silence settled between them for a moment and as she watched him her anger slowly began to ebb away. The last thing that she'd wanted was to cause any sort of rift between them and the easiest way to do that naturally seemed to just let this thing go. It really wouldn't be hard for her to bury this nagging notion that something should be done. That she should be helping in a way that was more than just back channel surfing and solving the already solved cases at the PD. So when Dick broke the silence once more, stating how most of the rumors flying around about himself, Timmy and well Bruce himself weren't even concocted with a half truth in mind, Barbara found herself nodding in agreement. She'd done her reserach after all, but knew that she was better to just let it go.

Although she suddenly wasn't hungry, Barbara made no objection when Dick ordered a muffin for herself and she idly picked at a few of blueberries that she could dig out with her fingers before setting the all but untouched muffin aside at his comment. He was right, in more aspects and part of her knew this. Just as anyone else in the city, he deserved keeping his life to himself. And for perhaps not the first time in history, although it sure damn well felt like it, Dick actually made her feel ashamed.

"You're right." It was all she could managed to get out and she began to debate whether or not she should just leave now, or rest screwing something else up today. Seemed her bad luck had finally caught up with her once more.

She knew it. Dick could feel it. He didn't know what to say to her, so he didn't, and he didn't know what to say about it to anyone else, so he locked it away. “I think that would be the best” Dick turned his head slightly to the side, a little glance to the right in order to see here better. Now, it was more than possible to see him better under the dim light of the place. The strong jaw, little bit of stubble from the lack of morning shower. His eyes, flickering between blue and gray, were sparkling and his smile carefree as a light voice. A flash of white teeth, not blindly so, but just right, straight and natural and so him, the tip of his tongue showing from just in between his teeth playfully. The masculine essence of his cologne, a unique mixture of classic sandalwood tones with lighter citrus notes combine to make a one-of-a-kind continental scent, perverated in the air. “There are some things that should stay secret” He commented casually as he took another sip of his coffee.

“It's better if you continue your path. Nothing good is going to come out if you continue digging” He said smiling. Dick Grayson loved attention. He loved when people looked at him whenever he entered a room. Though at times he played the part, there were other times when the emptiness shown through hallow-looking eyes at parties, at fundraisers, at museum openings. However, right now he looked for the first time in many months truly excited. The only time he seemed happy and almost at peace was when he was leaving to patrol every night. He thought that probably it had something to do with the thrill of the hunt. “I just want you to stay out of problems. This city is full of crazy people” He commented affably. Dick no longer was sure why he liked Gotham. It didn't have a hell of a lot going for it other than the fact that it was no Wonderland. Though things had dramatically improved through the years and it was not as corrupt, as beaten-down, as riddled with criminals, that didn't ’t mean it wasn't still criminally dishonest and rife with a pervading sense of gloom and despair. It was just all matter of degrees. Some people had gotten used to the feeling, and others were simply too stubborn to get the hell out from the city.

“Your uncle needs you” He replied and then looked at his watch. “I gotta go now” He commented casually and asked the waitress to bring him the bill. “Do you have something else to say?”

It might have been for the best, and Dick he might have been able to pressure her off of it and make it out like it was nothing, but that didn't mean that it would work with anyone. Barbara herself was only dropping the subject, because she valued Dick as a friend, and to be honest it was almost like trying to force her way threw a brick wall. He just wasn't about to budge on the subject and well, if the wall was too high and to wide to around, she had no other choice but to let it go and find another way. Leaning back in her chair, taking another sip of the drink she'd ordered, Barbara knew that he was watching her, studying her in his own way and she wasn't sure what all that entailed.

She however agreed whole heartily with him on the fact that some secrets, should stay that way. After all she wasn't sure what she'd do if her hacking career should ever come to light. Sure it was more a test of her own skills, and only to the GPD, high security encrypted line but, it still was against the law. She could imagine her father's disapproving look if he knew exactly what she tended to spend, hours upon hours, locked up in her room doing. A slight smile found it's way onto her lips at the comment, and she let her gaze drop to her cup for a moment. Funny how things turned out.

Although the advice he'd given her was good, Barbara knew she'd never listen too it. She was still to proud to let it go fully and part of her knew, that Dick knew that too. He'd worked with her long enough on some school reports and project to know that she fully committed one hundred and twenty percent to whatever she was currently focused on. "Nothing good will come from, sitting around doing nothing." And it seemed that nothing had really changed over the last couple years. Sure Gotham wasn't as bad as it had been when she'd originally came to live with her uncle. And even if he was only looking out for her, and her well being, it really wouldn't matter. She was the 'daughter' of the police commissioner. If that didn't hadn't painted a target on her by this point, then Barbara didn't know what would. "You can't protect me from the world Dick. Bad stuff, it's just gonna happen. That's how the world works."

Silence settled back between them once more, Barbara wasn't keen on breaking it again and so when Dick mentioned that her uncle needed him, she had to laugh softly. He was right, he probably did need her. But seeing as the Police Academy were taking their sweet times with her application and its goddamn pending status, she couldn't help him on anything that he really needed the help with. "I can't help him, not in the way he truly needs it." She said with a shrug, it wasn't much she could do. Sighing softly, she just nodded. Checking into the police station and seeing her uncle, it was probably where she should head too and as the waitress brought Dick the bill, she wondered if she should argue to pay her own half, but figured he just might get a tad offended.

So his sudden question that he presented her with, caught her off guard and she raised an eye brow for a moment. Was anything else she had to say? "Actually, more advice than anything. Next time you're being an acrobat, make sure you're in the right costume."

Dick knew it well. Too well. It would be just matter of times until someone found out who they really were. Well, some people already did it. However, that had been their choice. But right now he felt too worried about Barbara knowing the family secret; not because she would tell the world (she could have simply blackmailed him or gone to the media). He felt worried because he had the feeling she would try to do something really risky. Apparently, Barbara was an idealist who believed the world could be fixed in one night. He was just like her when he started but when the time passed, he understood, this was much difficult than he originally thought. He wasn't enough. Arrogance was not a great bedfellow, or sidekick either, for that matter. But that was what Dick was left with, that and the knowledge that his world was a dark place. He had been fighting death all his life. That was him, the Nightwing, always prepared to deal with the worst, he was no longer Boy Wonder anymore. “Barbara, there are other ways you can help” He turned around and looked at her right in the eyes. Hopefully, she would understand he really mean what he just wanted the best for her.

“There comes a moment in everyone’s lives when everything suddenly becomes clear. A moment of such clarity that you can’t even believe that you were blind enough to miss it in the first place. The pieces of the puzzle suddenly fall into place as though the last piece has been tucked away and lost for as long as you can remember, but as soon as the piece is found and put in place the picture portrays a completely different vision than you thought it was going to. Suddenly everything makes sense. And your life will never be the same again...” He said slowly and approached slowly. Dick didn't want to hurt her but he thought that honesty would be the best policy here. “Have you ever seen someone dying in front of you, Barbara?” Dick asked again, there was a glint of sadness in his eyes that said he had experienced too much pain in his life.

“Don't worry, I know my thing. Keeping the audience entertained is what I do my best” He smiled and then walked away without looking back. He was afraid that if he looked her right in the eyes, he was afraid of what it was going to happen.
