welcome to gotham city
Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push and it seems these days all Gotham has gone to Hell. As one by one Gotham’s citizens seem to be following in the footsteps of Gotham’s two biggest patrons.
Some wish to rise up and save it from the brink of madness, while others wish to watch the world burn. Where do you stand in the war for Gotham’s streets, with Harvey Dent and Gordon’s silent protector or do better fit in with the Joker and his better class of criminal. Or just maybe perhaps you stand in the middle, trying to make sense of the chaos. Ether way prepare yourselves, a dark dawn is on the horizon.

Kayleigh swallowed hard, fighting to keep her emotions under control. The last time that a gun had been pulled on her, she hadn’t even had time to react before the trigger was pulled. This was much worse, not to mention the fact that it was her own gun that was being used to threaten her. She could tell from the way he held it that he was not used to handling a gun. That was both a blessing and a curse. If he didn’t shoot her on purpose, he could easily shoot her by accident. Of course, it would make him easier to disarm, if she ever got the chance. A blind man could shoot her if he was standing as close as this man was.
“What’s next?...hmm, what’s next?” He was enjoying this, wasn’t he? Making her feel helpless. Kayleigh hated feeling that way, like she was weak and needed someone to save her. And she hated the person who was trying to make her feel that way. When he pointed the gun right in her face, rather than give the jumpy reaction that she was sure he was hoping for, she clenched her jaw, staring down the barrel at him with a look of defiance.
Kayleigh looked at the canister and brought it closer to her face, touching the tab with trembling fingers. I guess I don’t have much of a choice, do I? She thought. Her fingers felt something on the canister. It was a dent, the canister must have broken open when it fell. Kayleigh felt a little thrill of triumph as she realized that this meant that the canister was empty by now, and he had no idea. She pulled the tab on the can and broke the seal.
A police siren was growing louder and she saw the nervousness in his eyes. She may have avoided his mutagen, but she certainly wasn’t in the clear yet. Note to self: Always carry a backup gun.

Kirk waited to hear the hiss of the compressed air leaking and waited to see the controled infection of his mutagen, watching as the retrovirus entered her body and began to implant the genes into her cells as it slowly multiplied. And though the scientist would not be there to see as her body contorted, her flesh and bone molded and her slow descent into primal insanity, it’d still be some comfort to him that he’d be able to confirm that she’d be infected.
After she broke the seal of his canister, one minute passed and then another until a good five or six minutes had passed between them and the sirens moved closer. After there would be no sound Kirk again would mutter a few choice words under his breath, cursing his misfortune and this whole damned night in which nothing seemed to be going for the scientist, despite his months of planning and engineering. Then looking at her with a look of resentment and hatred, he’d then say. ”Alright then just hand the damned thing over” he barked, hoping that he’d be able to figure out what had gone wrong there.
With the sirens only about a block away, Kirk proceeded to fire a warning shot into the air, despite the discomfort and uneasiness it produced when it went off. ”As much as I want to put a bullet through your skull right now, I think we should just re-schedule our appointment” he snarled. ”I guess I’ll have to come back for you with the next batch…or at least for a few of your buddies” he grinned. ”And don’t worry too much about me finding you…I got your scent, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, there’s no escape” he told her maliciously.
Stepping backwards slowly over the corpses of his creatures which have already attracted the scavengers from their filthy lair. Kirk would keep his eye on her with the gun pointed, making sure that she wouldn’t try anything until there was at least what he considered a decent amount of distance between them. Then with the gun in hand, he’d take off nervously, hoping to leave before he’d have a chance to tell whether or not the sirens heading towards the two really was for the disturbance the two were creating in the crowded confines of the old alleyway.
Though Kirk had to admit defeat tonight, he always knew that tomorrow held more promise, as he already began to piece together his next big plot to unleash his mutagen upon the innocent. With all sorts of new designs in his head and new ideas on how to distribute them, his goal would be to infect as many as possible and to twist their flesh in new and ghastly ways probably thought imaginable by any biologist. And of course next time it was to be flawless because by then he was sure a certain someone was ether dead or one of the infected.
Taking a quick glance back as he attempted to flee the scene he’d utter two simple words angrily ”Next time” making a promise to himself, that some how, some way she would pay for wronging the scientist and putting an end to his experiment, long before it’d have a chance to reach its full potential.

Kayleigh watched him in silence, waiting to see how he would react. The minutes ticked by, and she watched as he waited for some reaction. The approaching wail of police sirens was growing closer and Kayleigh exhaled a sigh of relief. ”Alright then just hand the damned thing over” She complied quickly, tossing the canister at him in an underarm swing.
She didn’t flinch as he fired a warning shot into the air. To her, it seemed that he was merely trying to give a show of force.”As much as I want to put a bullet through your skull right now, I think we should just re-schedule our appointment”.[/b] “Oh, what a shame.” She retorted in mock disappointment. Kayleigh narrowed her eyes at him. If he was going to go after her co-workers, then he was going to regret it.
Once she was sure that he was gone, Kayleigh allowed herself to sag against the alley wall. The leftover adrenaline made her hands shake uncontrollably, and she closed her eyes, taking deep breaths, focusing on staying calm. The alley was suddenly awash in red and blue lights. The police must have heard the gunshots. An officer quickly ran over to her, but she waved him away, straightening up and issuing off a string of commands. “Get a CSI unit over here immediately, as well as a Hazmat team. Block off either end of the alleyway.”
The young officer was quick to comply and after the CSI team arrived, she turned over the reins to him. Kayleigh gave him her statement and then headed home, gratefully accepting the offer of a ride from another officer. When she reached he apartment, she didn’t bother turning on the light. Instead, she made her way by feel to the bedroom, taking off her sewage stained clothes and pulling on shorts and a t-shirt before collapsing with a sigh onto her bed. ”And don’t worry too much about me finding you…I got your scent, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, there’s no escape” She couldn’t deny that his statement gave her the chills. I’ll just have to watch my back. Kayleigh told herself firmly.
Tomorrow would be a new day, and would hopefully end much better than this one had.
