Well then, if that is the case you aren't alone. Almost everyone besides Skaven players hate them, and so many people find them hard to beat. I have heard that GW is working on an update to weaken the Skaven and make them less powerful, it is just rumour at the moment though. Lets hope its true at least.

well well well I play Skaven! Nja-ha! So all youz better beware...

No but seriosly, why does everyone whinge about skaven? any good general can beat them! Strewart is my only friend who actually whines about them, the rest think theyre cool! BJ actually prefers to face skaven ratehr than my other armies, and the amount of times they have suffered at the hands of the undead is huge! Another of my friends played his first game against my skaven and kicked my ass! an absolute thrashing! Skaven CAN be overpowering if you fight a cheesey player, but then again so can any army (just look at Bretonnians ) just skaven can be made overpowering easier... But I always try and play with a ballanced army, not taking too much of their powerfully shooty stuff... Its true, skaven can be absolutely devastating when their equipment works, but how often is that?

I started to play skaven before I even knew the rules for them. I started coz I liked the 'feel' of the army, being cowardly, backstabing geniuses (a bit like myself, except for the genius ofcourse...) It was only after I had a relative force of them that I heard people start calling them cheesey! I love skaven nature (I have taken a test, and I am quite skavenish myself ) and THAT is why I play them, not coz of cheese factor! Skaven are also the most fun army to play with, no army beside Night Goblins can give as many laughs during a battle as skaven can! Its fun to play with them, whatever the result, and writing fluff for them is HELL FUN!!! And beside, Skaven are cute (although my girlfriend thinks otherwise...)!!!

And why is it only people who have suffered at the hands of the Skaven who call them cheesey??? sore loosers (cough, splutter, sneeze!)

Enemies of Skaven have it easy nowadays I remember the old days when they had fully-operational verminlords, not the pansy vermin lords of today but monsters of old with 8 str 8 attacks at d 3 wounds and lvl 4 magic I'd glady make war with the ratkin

the veminlord can be used, ya know! we just take it easy on ya!

I have to side with your girlfriend on this one

We are in a campaign with 2 skaven players, one whose army selection is on a similar basis to yours, from what you are saying, and the other is based on crunching the numbers and probabilities.

The latter complains that he feels the warlock engineers are too expensive and should be cheaper - any cheaper & they would be almost free

It is the latter that tends to result in dislike, and I think that they are overpowered (or under priced). I am having some considerable success to date, but that is due to better tactical map moves (battles are not even if you can manage to outmanoevre your opponents).

I (HE) am anticipating taking a bit of a mauling in the forthcoming battle, which is in a jungle setting, with troops as follows:

Turn 1
HE 2k + Empire 2k
Skaven 1k +Skaven 2k + Strigoi 2k + 500 points skink skirmishers

Turn 2
HE 3k
DoW 1k+2k (could come in on either side - will likely decide on the day)

Turn 3
Empire 3k (damaged)

The DoW has mainly sided with the rats + VC to date, but last time attacked the strigoi, and got badly mauled.
